I walked through a busy airport and I could not hear a thing other than my music. They're also comfortable and the batteries last awhile. I'm no audiophile but the audio quality is very good, the best I've personally tried.

To ensure a more secure feel, we recommend extending the sliders fully before putting them on and then adjusting them until the headband rests softly on the top of your head, which helps distribute the weight more evenly and stabilizes the earcups. Since these headphones feature a "soft-fit" leather and a lightweight design, finding that specific "sweet spot" with the slider length is key to preventing them from shifting while you move.

Premium Product at a Correct Price

The ANC performance is second to none (that I have tried). The price is fair, all things considered. When listening to music critically at home, I use Sennheiser HD 600s, which also happen to be $400. Do the WH-1000XM5s sound as good as the HD 600s? Of course not, but the HD 600s need an amp due to their 300 ohm impedance, they block absolutely zero noise, they leak a considerable amount of noise, they're not wireless, etc. Point is, they aren't particularly convenient or portable. If you need a pair of on-the-go headphones, or ones you can wear while moving around the house (vacuuming, cooking, etc.) the WH-1000XM5s are an excellent choice. The battery life, it should be noted as well, is phenomenal. The sound, while not as good as their wired, open-backed competitors in the same price bracket, is still very good. I found some EQ-ing to be necessary, as they were too bass forward out of the box, however the phone app makes EQ-ing them easy, so no complaints there. Given the excellent ANC and convenience of these headphones, the quality of the sound is appropriate for the price point. I have seen others complain of the "cheap feel" of these headphones, likely referencing the plastic construction and light weight. It seems to me to be an unwarranted criticism, as the ABS they are made of can doubtless withstand far more abuse than I - or any average consumer - will ever put them through and, as it turns out, low weight is desirable for something that's going to be sitting on your head for potentially hours at a time. I would certainly not want these headphones to be made out of metal. On a unique side note, my head - and by extension my ears - are incapable of sweating, so I wear these to the gym since I don't need to worry about the lack of a waterproof rating. They block out the loud ambient noise of the gym exceptionally well.

I stood next to a train and was able to talk on the phone uninterrupted. Audio is also well balanced and a wide range of genres sound great (from jazz to classic rock to hip hop, etc.). Halfway through I did have some mechanical creaking show up but I traced that back to wearing them while walking around in hot weather for too long (I was still in the exchange window with geek squad so I exchanged them). My recommendation is to enjoy them indoors (or outside in moderate temperatures) while mostly stationary. If you sweat a lot you may end up getting some creaking noises while they dry out.
