Not ideal gym headphones

However if you are planning to use them for the gym I would go for another option as these slide off very easily. At least for me they slide off with no effort when laying down on the bench. However, they are great for running, super lightweight and amazing noise cancelling feature! The Sony headphone app is super easy to navigate as well!

Good, but not amazing.

Owned for 2 weeks when reviewed.This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I had a pair of Wyze noise cancelling headphones that work fairly well, but just couldn't handle some of the noise during flights, so I upgraded to these for their supposedly "unprecedented noise cancellation". I was disappointed to find that they are only slightly better than the Wyze headphones even though they four times the price. They are comfortable, sound great and offer good noise cancellation, but I would not buy them again when I can get 90% of the performance for 25% of the price.

High quality headphones!

I can't make a comparison, but for the money and the quality, this makes it seem so much better than the Apple Airpods Max. Probably comparable to a Bose QC. Only downside is the app and how to use it effectively with your phone.

Amazing headphones for just about everything
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Far better than I was expecting. As someone who is new to “premium headphones”, these blew me away. I’ve been used to AirPods and gaming headsets and I cannot even express how much better the MX5’s are than anything I’ve used. The noise canceling was the most surprising, I expected it to dampen most things around me but it simply cuts out all sound. Road-trips, air travel, gym sounds, and construction zones’ sound pollution are completely removed from my life when I turn on the noise canceling. The mobile app is relatively confusion free and simple to set up. The custom EQ settings were great for finding my favorite audio experience for music. If you’re looking to use these as gaming headphones, I’d look elsewhere. While the sound is amazing, the latency is a bit too much for any sort of competitive games. However, I’ll use these for single player games to enjoy the atmosphere even more. Before I got these I read quite a few reviews about them not being good for gym usage, but I disagree. They cut out all sound and I can’t hear the gym’s music, treadmills running, or weights slamming (unless they’re my own). In terms of sweat damage, they dry off quickly and as long as you take care of them and clean them, it’ll just be fine. I sweat quite a bit and have noticed zero problems with anything during or after workout.

They were originally purchased to replace my older Bose headphones, which has a weak battery. But all I hear is the noise around me, and it won't sit well on my head. I had high expectations for the Sonys, but the noise cancellation feature is far from spectacular - especially at this price point. It's also a pain to connect with Bluetooth and takes more time to charge. Back to the Bose. I've learned my lesson. Never again.

The issue of hearing excessive noise during calls is common when conferencing apps force the headphones into a lower-quality Bluetooth mode (HFP); we recommend manually checking your PC's sound settings to ensure the "Headset (WH-1000XM5 Hands-Free)" profile is selected before joining a call. Regarding the fit, ensure you gently adjust the headband sliders so the earcups achieve a complete seal around your ears, as this is crucial for optimal noise cancellation performance.

Only small drawback is the headband, after a long movie or gamming session the head band digs into my head almost that gives a slight discomfort. other than that, its fantastic

They arent rated for water/sweating resistance, but i found a quick wipe down if i ever feel too sweaty does the trick. I love the music quality and the app that allows you to customize the EQ and touch controls when using them. I have an iphone so everything points to me getting the airpod max for "seamless" connections between my phone and iPad, but I already have the airpod pros and they are nice but I needed more control with how I wanted to listen to different genres of music with EQ customizations. The airpods pro do tend to slip out my ear canal often so I end up pushing them in to benefit from ANC, even swapped out the rubber ear tips with silicone ones and they still slip out. So I got the Sony wf-1000xm4 to replace the airpods pro, they were a game changer. More comfortable and better ANC due to solid seal into my ear. Plus they never slip out, never need to adjust while at the gym. Decided to stick with Sony for an over the ear headphone and so happy I did. I switch between them when I go to the gym. Going to get the sony wf-1000xm5 when they have any deals. TLDR: Overall I'd recommend the Sony wh-1000xm5 Pros: Great fit, comfortable and light, app with extra customization, EQ, cheaper than Airpod Pro Max. Cons: the light weight makes them feel "cheap" ( even thou they aren't ), not IP water resistant rated and Sonys complicated naming for their headphones.

Solid connection when connected to my Samsung Note20. Impressive sound and the features to adjust volume and change song via the right headphone are convenient. They do perform well in regards to sound and clarity and battery life is decent as well. I would say between 4 and 5 stars, nothing really bad about them but also nothing really sets them apart for the rest around the same range.

Phone are great, mic is terrible

For calls, the mic is terrible. It isn't just "not awesome," it is nonfunctional if I'm in a coffee house, taking a gentle stroll outdoors, or anywhere else that the smallest sounds might be picked up by the mic. For all the AI tech is boasts, it isn't too smart in distinguishing my voice from the ambient noise around me. If you intend to use the XM5 for listening, it is a solid investment. If you intend to use the XM5 for calls, don't waste your money. My primary *intended* use was business calls. That is why I cannot recommend the XM5. I *do* recommend it for music and audiobooks.

Owned for 2 weeks when reviewed.This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.The quality is well, but the headphones do not fit perfect because it is a little big for me personally when the headphones are on the lowest adjustable height but other than that it fits well and is very comfortable (I have one ear piercing on each side and it has not caused an issue even when I lay in bed with them on). It totally depends on your head size and shape. It is very lightweight and has many useful and cool features. The app is not the easiest to work at first but it just needs some getting used to. The transparency mode is not as good as the AirPod max but is still comparable, but it is still very cool and useful. I believe for the price it is definitely worth it.

New to noise cancellation

Construction is solid and I am pleased with both the sound quality and noise cancellation. Voices are clear during calls and they sound great listening to music or movies. Appreciate the protection the carrying case provides. The battery life is outstanding. I have only used them while flying but have amassed about 14 hours us use the battery is 58% Bluetooth connection has dropped twice during that time.
