    Noise canceling not good for calls

      Regarding the sound shutting off, it is usually caused by a couple of the headphones' built-in smart features, like "Automatic Power Off" and "Pauses when headphones are removed," which can sometimes be triggered by all the movement during a workout.

      You can turn both of these off in the Sony | Sound Connect app. Just head to Device Settings > System, find the Automatic Power Off setting, and select "Do not turn off." It’s also a good idea to check and disable the Pauses feature there if it's on.

    Steer clear, want quality? Go for Bose or Apple

    Stay away, build quality is poor, quality control bad and customer service even worse. My headphones barely lasted me a year of very minimal use. Within a few months I started having issues with the headphones automatically playing tracks, forwarding tracks, ending calls, muting me, etc. once it got a little heated. By the end of the year, the headphones wouldn’t last 15mins before the issues started happening. I had purchased the headphones in May, 2022 and reached out to customer service in June 2023. I was told that my headphones are out of warranty but as a courtesy, they’ll give me an exchange. I got an email to upload the receipt which I did, and the next day I got the email that my warranty has expired. The build quality of these headphones is absolutely terrible, and I wouldn’t want to deal with customer service that tells you different things altogether. Bye bye Sony, not falling down this trap again and will not recommend anyone to do so either.

    Great sound quality. Great battery life. Great active noise cancellation. Very comfortable. But all that is thwarted by the issue I and many other users have with the connectivity. It will often drop the connection to my phone, PC, Mac, tablet, or whatever other device I have it paired to. I’ve tried resetting it and unpairing it from every device I own so that the only device the headphones can pair to is the one I’m currently using. Still disconnects. Many great features but I can’t use any of them. I’m returning these.

    Sound and features are great but…. for me they are uncomfortable to wear. Maybe it’s because I wear glasses but they hurt after 20 minutes of wearing them for me. Oh well I had high hopes but I’ll be returning them.

    It might just be a thing with over the ear headphones vs earbuds. I barely notice the noise cancellation unless i compare it to passthrough

      • Make sure that the noise cancelling function is turned on.
      • Adjust the headset into a comfortable position.
      • The noise canceling function is effective in low frequency ranges such as airplanes, trains, offices, near air-conditioning, and is not as effective for higher frequencies, such as human voices.
      • When the Adaptive Sound Control on the “Sony | Headphones Connect” app is turned on, the wearer's actions, like walking or running, are detected. The noise canceling function is automatically adjusted and the Ambient Sound Mode may be activated according to these actions. To make the most of the noise canceling function, turn off the Adaptive Sound Control, and try to turn on the noise canceling function manually when you need it.
      • With the “Sony | Headphones Connect” app, check the setting of [Ambient Sound Control]. If it is set to [Ambient Sound], the effect of noise canceling is reduced. Set it to the noise canceling mode.
      • Check with the “Sony | Headphones Connect” app whether the function of the NC/AMB button is set to [Ambient Sound Control].
      • Because the noise canceling performance is automatically optimized by the Auto NC Optimizer function according to changes in the wearing condition and usage environment, you may notice fluctuations in the noise canceling effect.

    Ok. I got these and the Airpod Max to A/B and compare to decide what I want to go with. First the good: They are easy to connect and can connect to two devices. I like that. These are very light, very comfortable and easy to use. The noise canceling is top tier. But that's where the goodness ends. These are one of the worst sounding headphone for the money that I have ever put on my head. I was shocked. The older model (XM4) actually sound much better. The way these compress the sound, kill the midrange....its actually inexcusable. I tried to like these. I really did. I fly a lot. And most of my flights are 6 hours or more. So I wanted great sound, noise canceling and comfort. I couldnt handle listening to music, or movies, with these headphones. I can't....NOT recommend these enough. Unless you don't care about sound quality and are more into comfort and noise canceling. I still have my airpod max headphones. They are not very comfortable. But I will deal with that to have the better sound quality and much better noise canceling than my old Bose QC45's.

      For sound related concerns, please try the following:
      Turn down the volume of the playback device if it is too loud.
      When playing music, if the headset and the transmitting Bluetooth device are connected via an HFP or HSP Bluetooth connection, switch the Bluetooth connection to A2DP with the connected device.
      Some devices that emit ultrasonic sound waves designed to repel rodents may occasionally be installed at the entrances of commercial facilities or subway stations. Near such devices, the ultrasonic sound waves may cause noise or unusual sound to be heard from the headset. Leave the place where the noise or unusual sound is heard. Or turn off the noise canceling function/Ambient Sound Mode from the “Sony | Headphones Connect” app.
      Please also ensure the software is updated.

    It works great, my only issue is when you don't want to use them but want to rotate the buds, they are backward, and it is a bad design. It is nothing that fancy though.

    it’s a pretty decent headphone. very lightweight and feel premium-ish, but the anc did not meet my expectations. the sound quality is there but it isn’t better than the airpods pro max in my opinion.

    Horrible just horrible. Sound quality is great yet, device has so many issues, constantly disconnects from Bluetooth, features you don’t want on turn on. Everything besides the sound quality is terrible. I will never buy a pair of Sony headphones ever again, I truly wasted my money, sound quality doesn’t cover the rest of the issues these headphones have.

    AVOID - WORSE THAN PREVIOUS GENERATION

    1 star rating is for an overall step backwards from the XM4s. The band is flimsy, the clamping force fades quickly. The noise cancellation is arguably worse than the XM4s. The only thing that was better was the tough interface.

      - Ensure a Perfect Seal: The XM5s use a redesigned ear pad. If there is even a tiny gap between the cushion and your skin (caused by glasses, hair, or positioning), the ANC effectiveness drops significantly. Make sure the cups fully encompass your ears.

    While these headphones sound cleaner than my previous gen XM4s, they feel cheaper and are looser on the head which makes the noise cancellation worse. I’d recommend sticking with the 4s while still available.

    Don’t upgrade or waste your money

    These are a downgrade from Last years model. The only positive is they are insanely light weight, with that said they feel cheap and breakable. You want to keep these in the case for travel. The vegan leather easily picks up dirt, and the ear cups are already flattening! I’ve had the headset over a month now and I can say I really wish I just bought a new set of the XM4s. If you have the xm4s and are looking to upgrade DONT! You’ll be so upset once you notice all that’s missing in the new model. Either look into other options or rebuy the xm4s if you just want a new set.

    I found these to be not as great as my XM4s. The sound quality was not there, and I did not like that these did not fold down for putting in a backpack
