On/off detection is my favorite feature upgrade going from the 3s to the 5s, definitely saves on battery life for my forgetful self. They are also much lighter and more comfortable when wearing for long periods. I gave them a nice 12 hour trial run right after getting them and was plesently surprised how little ear fatigue I had. After wearing the xm3s that long I'd start twitching above the ear, nothing like that with the 5s. They're really good at switching between devices. I switch between my phone (android), iPad, and laptop (windows) quite a bit and haven't had to manually toggle the connection at all so far. I wish it was a little more visually clear which side is left vs right. They are labeled, but it's kinda hard to see in low light and I can never remember which side the power button goes on and always seem to miss it when I'm feeling for it to put them on.

They are lightweight and don’t apply too much pressure. I wear them 9 hours a day for work usually on meetings or listening to streaming audio. I do not wear them out to use with my phone. Phone calls with them are perfect. The charge lasts about two days with my usage. If it helps, I also wear external hearing aids, and these headphones fully cover my ears and the aids. No complaints.

A great set of cans!

Mainly to drown out the sounds of my home and people cutting grass and such while working. These are a great set of cans, as they should be for their price. They aren’t as nicely built as the Bose, but they are fairly light with no fatigue. While I like larger ear cups, they can be a bit distracting at times as I have a small head. The sound quality sounds a bit flat, but if you play with the EQ in the app, they come to life. I still think the x4 earbuds are tremendously better in SQ, but these fit a diff role and seem to be better for calls to me atleast. The battery life is TREMENDOUS to say the least!

The bass is deep and amazing but not artificial or overpowering. I never had any previous sony headphones so i cannot compare it with the xm4 or xm3. The best part i like is that they are so light. Some people with bad reviews have mentioned bad sound quality. In my opinion, either they got a bad unit or they have an issue with their bluetooth connection which is degrading the sound quality. I would highly recommend these headphones.

Lightweight and a joy to listen to for hours

But when I listened to them, they felt artificially boosted and somewhat tinny sounding. This is where the Sony's shined and ultimately won me over. The sound is natural, even, clean and crisp. And if you're looking for a little extra, the iOS Headphones Connect app works brilliantly for fine-tuning the sound. I listened to these headphones for 2 weeks and hardly used 40% of battery. They're lightweight, great to talk on the phone with and a joy to use. You won't regret this!

Several reasons why I like them: 1) Fantastic sound 2) Great NC 3) Comfortable 4) Long battery 5) Easy to use app with EQ features 5) Responsive and intuitive hand gestures on the right side 6) Cool features like stopping music when you speak 7) Nice quality case (albeit a bulky one) 8) Great microphone Things that could improve: 1) Can’t connect to Apple multi headphone feature, hopefully they get Apple to include them in the future 2) More compatible 360 audio; their spatial audio is limited to certain apps 3) Bulky case 4) I sometimes have issues with Windows, specifically with Teams

Owned for 1 week when reviewed.This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.bought this for work to eliminate noise. anc is really good. notice to less tech savvy people that the headphones has a default feature that it cuts off the music when someone is talking to you so you can hear them. it is a feature though i believe that it should not be on by default, i cannot penalize them for that. also i guess another downside is to turn off that feature, the app is required to be downloaded. for the pros, lighter than a bose qc35. not sure about the new ones. long battery life. comfortable to wear.

The Best Are Somehow Even Better Now

For me the slight discomfort comes from the thin top head band. For me it doesn't distribute the weight of the headphones very well, so after a few hours of wearing them it can get someone uncomfortable. I think these look very nice but ore importantly the materials used feel a lot nicer than the XM4 or the new Bose 700s. Sound - They sound almost identical to the XM4. The average joe would find it hard to differentiate these from the Xm4s but it is not like the Xm4 weren't already the best sound headset. The EQ in the app is awesome you can customize the sound exactly the way you want. The Bose do not come close, The Bose 700s are very flat and the App doesn't let you change it very much. The noise cancelling on these headphones is a massive improvement over the Xm4 which were already the best Noise cancelling headphones. I noticed with these they are more consistent with the noises they block out. Battery Life - The 30 hours seems accurate and for my use case that extra 10 hours over the Bose 700s makes a huge difference for convenience of having to worry about plugging these in all the time. The Bose 700s for me didn't come close to the 20 hours battery life, it often felt more like 15 hours and I was having to plug them in every couple days. App - The Sony app stands alone when compared to all other brands. As mentioned above you can EQ the sound exactly the way you want. As well as being able to set your settings for locations, so for the Gym you can boost the Bass and for work you can turn on Speak to Hear option which turns on ambient noise when you speak. The dual bluetooth is very easy and convenient to use and switch between, I wish for one day to have simultaneous playback with both bluetooth connections. Overall - I loved my XM2 and then the XM4 were amazing but different seem like enough of an upgrade to warrant keeping the XM4 over my XM2. But the XM5 feel like an upgrade in every possible way, I get better range with and the Noise cancelling is significantly better at blocking out more noises. If you have the older Xm headphones you have to upgrade to these, they are amazing. If you were looking at the Bose 700s please do yourself a favor and avoid those, they are noticeably worse than the Sonys in every measurable way. The Bose 700s have worse battery life, worse sound, worse app, and worse noise cancelling.

The battery got messed up so I got the AirPods Max and when the XM5s came out, I figured to give them a shot. They are a good upgrade, they sound good in most to all music genres, but personally I EQ them to sound more neutral because the Sony line always have a bass-heavy sound profile. These are not as muddy and overwhelming though. The new added features are a welcome upgrade, and they are very comfortable. I’m already used to having non collapsible ear-cups, so it’s not the end of the world. They sound good, have tons of features, and have an attractive new design. They are good and a keeper for traveling.

Amazing battery, sound quality, touch controls, fast charging, comfortable, good app, noise cancelling is generally very good (not as good as airpods max though). The build is very light and finish very buttery soft plastic. It can feel a bit “cheap” though. The out of the box sound profile is god awful. Who chose it i have no idea. Download the app and set up the EQ to your liking. Google good EQs if you need help, it dramatically helps sound quality. Definitely wait until there is a sale though. Not worth the full retail price

I really like like the ambient mode that lets outside sound in, and how easy it is to toggle it on and off. The multi pair works pretty good for the most part. I also like that it detects when you are not wearing them and auto shuts down after a few minutes to save battery. The batter life is also really great. My only real complaint is that they show finger smudges pretty bad. But I can live with that.

The ANC is top notch, better than the 3's which I was already impressed with. Ability to connect to two devices is awesome! Yes they redesigned the headset so it doesn't fold up nearly as compact as the 3's, but I don't travel much and these seem a bit sturdier. The fit is better also, but again, I have no problems with the 3's in that regard. The sound is not as bassey as the 3's but they are much more clear with a wider stage. The battery life is... decent. Are they worth 400 eye-blistering dollars? Yes if you want the latest tech and no if you have higher financial priorities. They are, after all, only plastic headphones...

However, we are sorry we were not able meet your full expectations with regard the bass sound and battery life of the unit. If you haven't yet, please try to follow the troubleshooting steps below. To ensure an optimal listening experience, downloading the Sony Headphones Connect app lets you adjust your bass levels and gives you different sound modes. There is even an EQ in there—which can be customized to fine-tune your music to your liking. You can edit the volume of the CLEAR BASS. Increasing the CLEAR BASS setting value allows your headphones to reproduce dynamic deep bass without distortion, even at a high volume. NOTE: When the audio source does not contain much bass sound, the bass sound may not be audible.

Even the case is made of high quality material, lightweight and durable. Very comfortable to wear for extended periods (use them for work 6-9h a day). ANC is the best out there in this price range. Audio quality is great with a bit of eq customization. Battery life is as amazing, even with ANC. I've had Bose, previous versions of the XMs, Sennheiser, and Audio Technica. Overall these are the best headphones I've ever owned!

Its a quick download, fine tune the sound then never touch the app again. I bring these to the gym I jog with these, jump road I punch punching bags. If theres an upgraded version of this headphone set i am going to purchase. Sony does everything so much better than Samsung and apple. My 1 complaint is I sing, or yell with these on at the gym so the headohones auto pause to listen to my surrounding. I'm sure I can tweak the app to get rid of that but the voice commands work extremely well its easy to talk to others too. I do blast my music but i make sure i don't risk hearing damage. If you blast headphones, no longer than 15 minute's for your ears, if you listen at a balanced level then you'll go for hours. Do not let moistures or sweat/ rain touch these headphones theyre Exspensive and Great quality. Better gym headphone are bone conduction headphones that wrap around your neck a little

Simply open the Sony | Sound Connect app and toggle off the "Speak-to-Chat" setting; this will allow you to sing or yell to your heart's content without any interruptions to your audio.
