The XM5 is a significant upgrade with a more refined and neutral sound. However, I don't notice much difference in the quality of noise cancelling, compared to the XM4. The XM5 is comfortable and easy to setup and use.

Really Good Headphones a Worthy Challenge to AirPo

The Sony is lighter and less bulky and has more bass I feel than the Airpods Max. I would say these are better for long flights than the Airpods max. They also have a custom EQ that you can set up. They also come with a cable to connect to a headphone jack on a plane. You have to buy that for $35 if you have Airpods max. Noise cancellation is excellent and I really like how you can just put your hand up to the headphone to stop that and have a quick conversation. You then just move your hand and you are back in business. They don't have the spatial audio like the AirPods Max and they don't have the cool factor of the AirPods Max. All in all really good headphones.

Very good sound quality. Poor build quality.

As the headband goes around and down, it eventually stops and starts curving to the outside. Right there is the issue. On the inside part right where it "detours" is where it snaps. Cheaply built though you pay a small fortune for the headset. If Sony doesn't start building them with more robustness, I wouldn't waste my time. On the 2nd set I bought, I also got the extended warranty anticipating this happening again ( $70 ). So glad I did because they lasted maybe 4 months. And here's the kicker; as soon as I returned them, they cancelled the warranty saying it had been fulfilled. My memory isn't what it once was, but I could have swore it was good for two whole years. So no matter how many times they broke I was covered. Not true. You fulfill it once and they cancel you, or at least they did it to me. So now I'm on my 3rd set and treating them with kid gloves. Once they snap again, I'm done with Sony too ( another manufacturer didn't produce a quality (longevity) product and twice their noise cancelling product crapped out after a year and the 2nd set gave up the ghost after 8 months. Well known brand that touts deep bass. Certainly don't build products like they used to. Today it's a buy new every other half year and we'll (the corporation) keep building crap.

Good, But Falls Short of Expectations

Despite tweaking bass and range settings, outside sounds still leak through in open environments — even with ANC toggled on in the app. I’ve accepted that this may just be their limit. Connectivity has also been hit or miss, with random Bluetooth dropouts that no amount of troubleshooting (on both phone and computer) seems to fix. Battery life is decent but not impressive for the price. Overall, I expected more. My next purchase will likely be the Apple AirPods Max — I’ve met too many people who rave about their truly phenomenal noise cancellation.
