I bought these because I was looking for a good pair of over-the-ear headphones. I know that Sony is known for its excellent sound quality, too. Let me tell you - these sound phenomenal! The Sound Connect app definitely helps with customizing the perfect sound! The sound drivers in this headset help with all levels of sound. The immersive sound is phenomenal! The battery life is also great! I flew for work this weekend and used the XM5s the whole flight. They were comfortable and the battery life was still at 90%! I highly recommend this headset!

They don't beat a Sennheiser wired headphone, but for a wireless set, they have excellent sound quality, good battery life, amazing extra features (like the ability to make adjustments with finger touches on the outside casing) and are very comfortable. They have never lost a connection with my phone, and do a good job in both ambient sound mode and with noise cancellation. My two quibble with these headphones are that in terms of noise cancellation, they are not as good as Bose headsets that I have had in the past, and that for what you get from Sony, they are actually a little pricey. I have an earbud set (off-brand) that gets you most of these features for 1/3 the price, The WH-1000XM5 also has a wired mode, that I have never needed or tried, but it's cool that it's there. The zippered carry case come with the set, and it's nice for use inside backpacks or suitcases, but won't hold up by itself for heavy travel. You will appreciate the quality level of the build and they have been decent at the gym as long as you aren't kickboxing or turning upside down a lot. Overall, worth getting if you need an over the ear set, but not if you just need a basic wireless headset.

I’ve enjoyed multiple earlier versions of Sony’s XM series noise-canceling headphones (XM2, XM3, XM4). What originally drew me to them was the excellent noise-canceling performance, especially considering the price point compared to Bose’s airplane-focused models at the time, which were significantly more expensive. Comfort was another big plus. The headband felt good, and I’ve never liked in-ear solutions. The XM5 series is largely the same experience overall. One of my earlier concerns was headband strength, which I believe has been addressed in newer versions. My main issue now is that, in certain situations, speech clarity seems to suffer. I sometimes feel the older models handled voices better. That said, it’s possible my current unit is slightly defective and may need an RMA. Overall, these headsets are excellent when it comes to noise canceling, period. If you can find the XM4 or XM5 at a discount, you won’t be disappointed. Just make sure to register them for the warranty and keep the firmware up to date. One piece of advice: fully charge the headphones before use, and if you’re doing a firmware update, be prepared and patient.

I purchased these headphones as a replacement for BOSE. What a world of difference. The sound is crisp and clear with zero interference. Making phone calls results in clear, easy to understand communications. The headphones are light, comfortable and easy to wear. Battery life is also a plus.

The best headphones ever. My husband travels a lot and these are his favorite for airplanes. The noise cancelling is amazing, sound is awesome, Bluetooth connectivity is slick and no issue. Comfortable for the long haul. I’ve bought them as gifts for 3 people.

Very well built and premium quality headphones. Strong bass and and great battery life. Super comfortable and love it comes works via bluetooth and aux cable. I dont get disconnected via bluetooth like many other headphones. Only con is, it does not have the foldable cups like its predecessor, XM4s.

I researched headphones before making this purchase. This specific set of headphones had very good reviews from several sources. I’ve had them for several weeks and have not been disappointed. The sound quality is great and they are comfortable to wear. I appreciate the noise canceling feature and was surprised by how well it works. The battery life is also great. Lastly, the touch sensitivity for changing the volume, etc, was very easy to use.

I have really enjoyed using these headphones and they've been a lifesaver at work. With an open office floor plan good noise cancelling headphones are a must. They sit comfortably over my ears and don't hurt even after hours of use, they're also not too heavy like the old 3's. The mic is good, almost too good at times. I have to be good about my muting or it'll pickup other people talking in my row. Great for music and movies as well!

I bought these headphones two weeks ago and without a doubt this is the best set of headphones I have ever used. I wear eyeglasses and one of the biggest issues I have had with most headphones is that they are not comfortable when wearing eyeglasses. These fit great and don't push the ears of the glasses into my head when wearing them. The noise cancelling is great. WIthout listening to music or watching a show, it cancels or muffles most sounds that are of average volume. Listening to music with the noise cancelling active eliminates everything. Which is great for me as there are certain sounds that drive me nuts, especially when someone is blasting their music outside of my apartment. Another great aspect to these is that the sound doesn't bleed out. Granted I haven't tried listening to my music at full blast but my wife can't hear my music when I have these on. The battery life is excellent as well. Depending on the volume used, I've had the battery last over 40 hours. I like the carrying case as it will help decrease the wear and tear when I take these into the office. It is a bit on the larger side but not enough to be a nuisance or problem. All in all this is definitely worth the price tag.

These headphones are privy. $399 isn’t a joke. However, it’s worth it to me because I use my headphones for 5+ hours a day. They practically live on my head/neck. I already had the XM4 which had some of the best noise cancelling on the market and these just push that forward. The first thing I noticed was the comfort. These felt like literal pillows on my head. You should try these out, because my description won’t do it justice. These are so comfortable. The second thing I noticed… The noise cancellation is noticeably better. The XM4 were already great, but these are even better. They are more effective at completely blocking out undesired sounds. It’s surreal to be able to walk through normally loud places and hear nothing. The third thing I noticed… The sound EQ and Quality is refined. Previously I had to do heavy adjustments to the EQ because Sony made them heavier on the bass. Now they feel much better straight out of the box. Now, the last thing… these don’t fold. The XM4 fold. A lot of people see that as an issue, but I don’t. The reason for that is two-fold. First of all, one of the major failure points on the XM4/3 units was the hinge. It had the potential to snap after many uses. These don’t have those hinges, so they’re that’s one major point that’s less likely to break. The other reason I don’t mind is because the case isn’t that big. I can still easily fit these in my backpack and now I don’t have to constantly fold and unfold these when I want to put these away. I would highly recommend you pick these headphones up if you’re looking for the best of the best. Anybody who uses these daily will find every cent worth it.

I’ve been using the Sony WH-1000XM5s for a bit now and I seriously love them. The sound is super clean, the bass feels really good, and the noise canceling is actually insane. They’re crazy comfortable too, so I can wear them for hours without even thinking about it. Plus the battery lasts forever and they switch between my devices without me doing anything. Honestly, they just make everything I listen to sound better. I’m really glad I got them.

My second pair, I screwed up my WH1000MX3 and somehow got an electrical buzz in one speaker - it they went. On to the WH1000MX5's first differences, the pads aren't as "thick" so these are our sit "closer" to your head. Second they don't fold like the MX3' did. But these connect to two devices, fit well enough for longer use, handle Ultra high and spatial Music Quality 360° services exceptionally well; Have great noise canceling and new, better mic position, pickup and clarity. The quality is there and while I prefer Van Halen and Rock music, I'm sure today's sampling / autotune crowd will be happy with them too.

Phenomenal!! Wow! Feels like a stereo system, download the app if you purchase this. Its a quick download, fine tune the sound then never touch the app again. I bring these to the gym I jog with these, jump road I punch punching bags. If theres an upgraded version of this headphone set i am going to purchase. Sony does everything so much better than Samsung and apple. My 1 complaint is I sing, or yell with these on at the gym so the headohones auto pause to listen to my surrounding. I'm sure I can tweak the app to get rid of that but the voice commands work extremely well its easy to talk to others too. I do blast my music but i make sure i don't risk hearing damage. If you blast headphones, no longer than 15 minute's for your ears, if you listen at a balanced level then you'll go for hours. Do not let moistures or sweat/ rain touch these headphones theyre Exspensive and Great quality. Better gym headphone are bone conduction headphones that wrap around your neck a little

at first i was really scared that i wasted a lot of money and should have bought something cheaper. but over time the fact that i don’t think of the headphones in any other way than “where are they” is so impressive to me, especially coming from the airpods pro. cons - the black ones get hella greasy. but maybe that’s a me problem. maybe i’m the nasty one here. - soft plastic: i got a tiny scratch in the first week of using them. i freaked out. i’ve been extremely careful ever since but i guess i wish they weren’t so soft - app is kinda weird UI imo and i hated the way the two devices would sync up. sometimes when actively using my computer, it would switch to my phone for no reason. i turned it off but it’s not that big of a deal for me to not have two devices at once - i went to do some laundry a couple hundred feet away and the connection was kind of bad, but i honestly haven’t experimented more with it pros - lightweight: i wear glasses and can wear these all day with no problem - sound is amazing, especially after tweaking the EQ - the noise cancellation is great (keep in mind compared to airpods pro) - i love the gesture of holding your hand up to the right side to hear something - they look lovely - the battery is stupid good, i literally have not had them die since i got them because it takes 10/15 min to charge and they’re back on full do i wish they were cheaper? duh. do i regret buying them for 400$? no. i feel like they will last long enough to be worth it :)

After investing in the XM4's, i saw this model and all of its improvements. Sturdy build, comfortable ear cups, and long battery life with great sound. My only cripe would be that it doesnt fold, so the case is a bit big, but well worth the sacrifice

I had the Sony XM3 version and really liked it. These were the newer model and had rave reviews so I got one. The sound is outstanding and they feel lighter and less bulky than the XM3. The battery life is excellent and lasts me all day and then some. That said... I absolutely hate that they took the voice away telling you the different system statuses that the XM3 had. Now its just a random tone. I can't tell if I'm properly in pairing mode. Can't tell what listening mode you're in either. It's just a beep. Bring back the sexy voice that let you know you were in ambient noise mode! Oh, and for $400 you should absolutely include the charging block, ya cheap skinflints! These two things kept it from getting all 5 stars. Otherwise, a great purchase (if not a tad steep).

I am all about the built in codecs as an audiophile. This headset might not be as power punching with the bass but it is enough to satisfy a bass loving person like me. As far as listening to Tidal (best audio formats) or Apple music app or any Dolby Atmos shows from any app like Netflix or Prime, this headset kills the competition. It has the availability to cuntomize your EQ through the Sony headset app and fine tune to your ear shape as well. This is my go to headset for everything, even Zoom, Microsoft Teams meetings as well thanks to noise cancelation which gets an 8 out 20 for me. I am in medical and we have a lot of noise coming from everywhere and this headsets work really good. Don’t get me going on the battery life, it’s amazing and lasts for days since I only use it for about 1-3 hours daily.
