|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.If you take with you anything from my review just take away this: If you want one of the best noise cancellation experiences TRY THESE! With a bump in microphones from last year's model, you now have 8 microphones that enhance the noise cancellation experience and call quality. The audio optimizer really helps to detect the environment that you are in and your conditions in order to give you the audio quality that you are looking for in a premium set of headphones. Sound, is without a doubt one of the best take a ways from these headphones. It is magic, the way they make the 2 processors work to detect noise and provide your ears with crisp and magnificent sounding audio. You even have an optimizer within the headphones app that you can control to your liking. I personally think the default "Bright" is a great setting to get a well rounded sound. When taking calls you can hear your caller well and the 4 microphones used to detect your voice do a great job to focus in on your voice and cancel out any other ambient noise so your caller can clearly hear your voice. Other things of note: - 30 hours of battery life is great but what is even crazier is that with just 3 minutes of charging you can get 3 HOURS of playback if you need to go on say a flight and want to carry these headphones along. - I HATE that these headphones do not flip the ear phones inward but instead flip outward when you hang them around your neck. This is pretty awkward being that you are exposing your ear phones out. - I've noticed that the auto pause when you take off the headphones is hit or miss sometimes. - Storing these headphones flat isn't bad but I wish they could fold in to minimize their space a bit more.

Sony WF 1000XM5 aka XM5

These Sony XM5s are just great and aound so good. I should add that im a True wireless earbud and headphone junkie, I have around 10 pairs from Sennheiser to Sony Samsung, from higher to a few cheaper ones. The Sony XM5 are a great quality pair and i like how comfortable they are. The sound is exceptional for a wireless headphone. Im taking advantage of the LDAC streaming hi-res via Qobuz, I do have and use Spotify as well but Spotify does not have any hi-res music. There are so many options in the App to customize these to however you could possibly want them to behave and adust sound quality to your liking. My only dislikes with these is there could be a bit bigger earwell for us bigger ear people , there is however so soft memory foam in there for the ear to rest on. I have no issues wearing these for hours at a time.

Good, but not for me

They also don’t stay on my head very well. Ended up returning. If you don’t sweat, or aren’t planning on being active on these, highly recommend, but if you’re concerned about that, I’d avoid.

The audio and software that comes with the headset is definitely what you paid for. Has a great bass and I really appreciate option that keeps the sound less than 70 dB for your ears. Compared to the other headphones at this price range, I like the build quality and material on these, note the leather does have an oil residue from hair if wearing them for a while. Overall, you can definitely get a great pair of headphones for cheaper, (XM4s are cheaper and as good), but these do live up to its price as well.

These headphones are comfortable to wear, but also fall off easily and the ear pads can get really hot. The settings are easy to set. Noise canceling is adequate, but not as strong as previous models. On rare occasion, there is a connectivity issue.

Exceptional Sound Quality and ANC

I really dig the modern, minimalist design of the XM5s. The Mark 5s feature exceptional sound quality, imaging, and an open sound stage, although I would give the edge to AirPods Max. With every major streaming service, with the notable exception of Spotify supporting Dolby, the lack of support for Dolby Atmos is a huge omission. As such, you'll have a far better experience watching movies and shows, that support Dolby, with AirPods Max. ANC on these is exceptional. One disappointment is transparency/ambient mode, which is just leagues better on AirPods Max. It's odd that Apple was able to create a magical pass through audio experience with their very first set of over the ear headphones. With decades of experience designing/manufacturing headphones, I expect better from Sony. Overall, these are well worth the price. Hopefully, the next iteration will include support for Dolby and feature a far better ambient mode.

These feels more premium and the sound quality exceeds my expectations. Battery life is superb, can go almost a month without having to recharge. What I particularly enjoy is the feature to place my hand over the ear cup to temporarily enable transparency and listen to the sound around me.

They are less compact but will last you longer. The simpler headband and hinge design works better with ears and heads. They also won’t break like my xm6 did. I now wish i kept these instead of my xm6.
