Great headphone sound and price point.

I own both and the MX5 has far greater noise cancellation with the same tone quality as MX4. More ear cup space makes these retain less heat and therefore more comfortable. If youre flying as much as me, the noise cancellation is scary good on a plane (no crying babies). I highly recommend these headphones and the Sony app offers very adaptive tuning.

The Built-In Microphones in Both the Earpiece is an Innovative Masterpiece. One Example is, I owned a Pair of XM2 (of the multiple I've owned) for a period of 3Yrs& 2Months. and worked as good ax the Day I bought them. I'm Wheelchair Bound with a Back Pack affixed to the Back of the 'Chair'. Had it Not been for them being STOLEN out of the Back Pack while I was on a Community Transit Bus I WOULD Still have Them. I had taken them off & put in Bk Pk for just a minute due to mechanical Wheel Chair Problem. When after getting off the BUS & Trying to get them, They WERE GONE. Stunning sound and fit.

I love the sound and fit especially. Simply stunning. I use a streaming music service that includes the 360 suround audio which is a nice plus. The app is as easy to pair and use as anything else, and these head phones are now my daily drivers. Definately worth the price for admission.

The noise cancelling is superb and the sound quality is crisp. Battery life is excellent. Having the app to make adjustments to sound quality is a plus too. It's a great investment and I'm happy with the purchase.

The sound quality, bass, clarity, 40 hr battery, noise canceling Im in a loud metal stamping factory and i only hear my music. The putting your hand over the right headphone to quiet down the music as well as noise cancelation, so you can hear whoever it is wanting to talk to you is an amazing great idea.

Since these are tuned for high-fidelity clarity, pushing the volume to the max can sometimes tax the drivers. To help with that distortion, you might try using the Manual EQ settings in the Sony | Headphones Connect app to slightly lower the lower-frequency sliders when listening at peak volumes.

Killer sound, icky headache

Love the Bose 700s but they’re fading fast. Everyone recommended the XM5s and for good reason— the eq is incredible and makes finding the right sound possible. ANC is very good, no issues with connectivity, overall solid product. My issue with the headphones is they are uncomfortable to wear for more than an hour. I use them for work and find I have a headache where the headband sits on the top of my head after about only an hour of wear. I don’t have a large head, more on the average/small size, but something about the headband pushes awkwardly on me and no amount of adjusting has fixed it. The earcups also sit a bit low on my head, even with the headband tight, so the top of the earcups sit right above my ears. To wear them for past a hour, I wear a ball cap with the XM5s over the top for a bit more cushioning to be comfortable. The ear cups are also a bit on the warm side to me and I don’t run hot as a person. I do recommend the product, but highly recommend trying them first.

Excellent Comfortable Product

I have used them a decent amount, and everything is great. The comfort is a highlight. I wear glasses and some over the ear headphones feel uncomfortable (like the airpods max) but these feel so good on my head. The noise cancelling is what I would come to expect from first party audio companies nowadays. The sound is great and I haven't noticed any problems. I got these for less because I am an employee and I would likely buy these for full price if I was needing a nice pair of over the ear headphones.

Read on... Background: I am a bit of an audiophile. Love my IEMs (Sennheiser IE600, Moondrop Variations, Fiio FH9), my DAP (Fiio M11 Plus ESS), and my music service (Tidal). Neat little transportable package, big & meticulous sound. Really wanted to complement that with nice Bluetooth OTE cans with strong noise cancellation, "good enough for me" sound quality, for flights and "Calgon, take me away" moments... My Experience: The first time I listened to the XM5s, my shoulders slumped. I had tried the XM4s a year ago but returned because the sound quality just wasn't there. Not close. Thought "here we go again" with the XM5s: River-mud thump-thump in the bass, recessed and murky mids, and no definition or clarity up top. Warm as a blanket, but unlistenable. So I started tinkering (OK, extensively) with the EQ in the App, trying to get the frequency curve to match my IEMs (all pivoting around the Harman Target). Ah hah! Try this, left to right in the Headphones App EQ: +1, +4, +6, +6, +8, Clear Bass @ 3 (season to taste). Then give yourself a couple of days for driver and brain burn-in. Now: Love these... love. Exactly the complement I wanted, sound beyond what I had hoped for. Turns out the XM5s are some awesome hardware, Sony just destroys the native tuning, and none of the stock EQ profiles come close to correcting that. In this case, EQ isn't a matter of tuning to personal preference rather undoing all the bad decisions. That done, these sound terrific, definitely keepers, and they will get A LOT of use. Hope this is helpful to some...

You can find one that suits you the most and tweak it to your preferences. Changes to the Equalizer only take a few seconds, and reward your effort with pristine sound. Tried all flavors of noise cancelling headphones and these are #1 by a wide margin. These headphones sound phenomenal: Incredible immersive sound, deep rich bass, clear crisp highs. Download the app and you can customize the sound via the EQ. They are comfortable for long usage; 5+ hours on long flights. Exceptional noise canceling, best on the market. Skip the Bose, skip the lower model Sony's and GET THESE.

Excellent headphones, OK value for the price

The sound quality is excellent from the phones; the quality from the microphones is OK. They are light in weight, which is nice. I wonder how well the ear pads will wear. Overall, the workmanship feels and looks good - as usual for Sony. The microphone does not work when using the wired connection, not mentioned in the documentation! Fortunately the excellent Sony support staff quickly explained that this is how it’s designed. Swiping on the phones to change the volume is clumsy and slow. Also annoying: the power button is an awkwardly placed tiny button. The unit shuts off automatically when taken off, which is nice - but requires more effort than it should to restart.
