First impression, i love the silver color and minimalist look. Once I tried it on, i didn’t like the feeling of it. It felt light and slippery. I do not recommend working out with this. Other than that it’s great and it sounds great

Really great, but some things to remember
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.4.5/5 ✨ Really great, they connect quickly and easily to my apple products, and I can switch between iphone/ipad/mac with minimal effort, akin to the apple airpod max. The battery lasts forever, longer than any headphones i’ve ever had - for reference, I wore them with noise cancelling on (fully charged) for an entire night’s sleep (~8 hours) and for a 6 hour plane ride (plus a few hours before in the airport and after coming back from the airport) and they are still at 85% charged. They are also sleek and nice looking, over ear is super comfortable, they are so light I can barely feel them on my head, they stay secured on at the gym and on walks, they don’t bounce around or fall off ever. They are also easy to clean and don’t stain quickly (I have the white ones!). In the app you can personalize the audio experience to suit your head and ear shapes, your head movements, your saved places, your preferred base, etc which I really like. The audio is top tier basically perfect and the app will save places and automatically adjust between ANC and NC so you don’t have to do it - however changing manually is simply with the push of a button. I gave 4.5 instead of 5 for a few minor reasons: the noise canceling, and the associated app. Originally when I was shopping around for headphones, I was under the impression that noise canceling would completely drown out any and all noise, and I was wrong. I was disappointed at first, before I learned that no headphones will truly block out every noise - that is just not possible. I do think the noise canceling is better than most other headphones i’ve tried, they were great to use on a plane and when I was trying to sleep in the same hotel room as my dad (who snores like nothing you’ve ever heard). The app is pretty cool and has useful features, however I do wish it was set up a little more user friendly and aesthetically pleasing. I don’t know much about audio and don’t necessarily understand some of the things it is tracking and reporting to me, so it would be useful for the app to get a facelift and some updates. Overall, I really like these headphones and would absolutely recommend to anyone. The price to quality comparison is truly superior to any other headphones.

Posted .Hi Jred1970, Thanks for the interesting question. If you use the analog connection from your phone to the headphones, you are using the DAC from the phone. If you connect the headphone dac/amp to your playback device, you should be able to enjoy your external DAC and then send that analog signal into the WH-1000XM5s via wired connection.

I only take a star away because a lack of compatibility with Linux using the same Bluetooth receiver.

If the system can communicate with Bluetooth Version 5.2 or earlier, it should work. The profiles supported by the WH1000XM5 headphones are A2DP, AVRCP, HFP and HSP.

Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I’m someone who has gone through many headphones in my lifetime, and these are beyond the best I’ve had. They fit on your ears comfortably, they don’t hurt even if you have them on for a long time, etc etc. The noise-cancelling feature is a godsend, but don’t use them when it’s windy or when you have your windows down when riding in the car, because they can impact your hearing and make it feel like a suction cup. I’ve had to have people shouting my name just for me to hear them, or where they tap me to get my attention. It also feels nice just to have on, even when you’re not wearing music. I’ve worn them to many places the entire time I’ve had these headphones and it works wonders. I also find it nice that there’s an option between having background noise on, or none. Sometimes I just enjoy having music on in the background in my head while talking to people, like your own little radio. The battery life is very bearable, amazing even. They last for 3 days with time between taking them off, and they warn you very gently once the battery gets low enough; I’ve had problems where some headphones tell me very aggressively and I’d rather just have the earbuds off. They are very light, sleek, and go amazing with every outfit. They keep your ears warm when it’s cold out, too. Sometimes you can’t tell you even have them on. The only issue I’ve had with the design was that I’m not aware of my surroundings much, so I bump into things on the side such as getting into the car or closing my front door. They haven’t scratched at all though, even with how much I’ve accidentally banged them against something. So yes, the Sony XM5’s are very very much worth it. The price may stray people from getting them, but these will last you through thick and thin. I’d say just get these rather than get any other headphones, because I’m sure the price itself adds up to the price of all the headphones I’ve purchased throughout the years. They have many settings, and the touch controls are lovely to use and so easy to figure out. You will never have to pull out your phone again just to connect to these headphones, turn up/down, skip songs. These are some of the finest, and if you don’t like some of the settings automatically set on the headphones, you can always change it in the app. I recommend these for headphone users 100%.
