The design is too simplistic but they still feel sturdy. The noise cancellation is alright, I had better. The battery life is good.

The XM5’s ANC is not as good as the manual NC of the XM4’s, the 4’s are more comfortable although about .4 grams heavier, the headband feels nicer and they sit properly and seal well around my ears with my glasses. The audio quality is very nearly the same except I find the XM4’s actually have better audio quality than the 5’s, although maybe I have a pair that are faulty, I just borrowed my brother’s XM4’s (my old pair before ‘upgrading’ to the 5’s) and the audio quality was cleaner, less punchy and there isn’t any presence of a tinny high treble like rattling sound in the left can, I thought they needed to be broken in like some SONY walkman’s do, (I’m using these with a walkman) and that didn’t fix the problem, but now I find that the return window without membership is only 15 days so I cant return this expensive downgrade and get another pair of XM4’s, wishing I purchased on Amazon so I could return them.

You can also change the settings of the noise canceling function and Ambient Sound Mode.

Maybe it’s because I wear glasses but they hurt after 20 minutes of wearing them for me. Oh well I had high hopes but I’ll be returning them.

Worse Noise Cancelling and Comfort Level than prev

I but them for a MEDIAL reason. I have severe Hyperacusis which is severe sensitivity to external sounds and even my own voice. Because of this, I have to wear these headphones ALMOST the whole time I am awake. If I am in a loud environment I have to use them to completely cover both of my ears, and if I am in a normal quieter environment, I can normally just cover one ear. I had to buy these because the WH1000M4 headphones that I had for about 3 years started squealing and I had to make an emergency purchase of these to keep my ears protected. I decided to upgrade to these, because I figured that if they were the generation, they would be even better. Here is what I noticed... 1. They do NOT noise cancel as well. I cannot have them ADAPT their noise cancelling to the environment. 2. They do NOT sit on my head as well and slip around a LOT. 3. I have to wear them all day long and they hurt the top of my head. By the time I realized all of this, the 2 week window to exchange them had passed. The HARDEST part for me is that they do not noise cancel as well so I struggle REALLY hard to go to anywhere where there is music playing, like at church. It goes right through my headphones and into my ears. I WISH I had gone with the generation earlier. I am sure that for someone that is NOT using them for these VERY specific medical conditions, they are probably ok. It is sad that the MORE expensive ones have worse noise cancelling and comfort ability.

I’d recommend sticking with the 4s while still available.
