After a while of comparing I ended up wanting to try Sony first and then try other options. All I can say is I am keeping this. The sound quality is awesome. The noise cancellation is great but sony can do better. The only thing I didn't like about them is the controls but now I have a hang of it.

I swap between these and AirPods Pro 2. But these definitely take the lead when I want something a little more beefy. And the battery life is also excellent, I’ve had them for 4 months and only had to charge them twice. Give em a try!

I have the XM5's, QC35 II's, AirPod Pros, Beats in ear, etc. These are really good. Better noise canceling than the XM4's, but don't fold up as neatly for travel. I think they sound better too, but hard to say for sure. Pretty comfortable as well. Try em.

I have to do hemodialysis 3 days a week, 5 hours per treatment. While doing my treatments I listen to podcasts to help the time pass and before I got these headphones I couldn’t hear most of the shows I listen to. There is always so much back ground noise and nurses yelling across the unit, it was so hard to hear what I wanted to hear. These headphones work so well at blocking back ground noise it’s like a different world. And I can finally hear my shows. They are definitely worth the price if background noise is a issue. I also love being able to control them with just a lil tap on the ear piece. They’re also very comfortable, very soft on my tiny ears. The carrying case is also well made and appreciated since it’s more convenient to carry along to my treatments.

When they work there great

At this point ive had the 4s and they dont work after 2 weekz and got these and they cut out when im ten feet away, we just been having all sorts of issues with wofi and other things.

We’re sorry to hear about the cutting out issues with your WH-1000XM5. Since you mentioned Wi-Fi struggles, the interference might be affecting the Bluetooth signal. We recommend using the Sony Headphones Connect app to set the "Connection Quality" to "Priority on Stable Connection" to help with the range.

Even my girlfriend was shocked at how effective it was in draining out external noises. Only issue is that it really isn't worth upgrading from XM4 to XM5, XM4 offers basically the same level of noise cancelling for cheaper and is more easily mobile and can fold in on itself. The XM5 can not be folded. It's battery-life is surprisingly good. However it is worth noting that after a year of using it, the battery life appears to be worsening. I'm not quite sure if this is true or not, but I would not be surprised if it is. This is despite minimal software updates, if any at all.

great headphones with some early adopter woes

Owned for 2 weeks when reviewed.This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.the headphones sound great, and they are quite a bit more comfortable to me in comparison to the xm4s, which were sufficient, but don't feel as nice or sound as good in comparison. i can wear these for much longer periods of time than the xm4s and i enjoy the sound more. the new adjustable bands are a nice improvement too, and feel more premium than the xm4. this device has some issues though. noise cancelling auto adjusts, which can be quite annoying when you can hear the headset adjusting automatically over and over in a short span of time, which makes me personally wish the noise cancelling can be manually adjusted instead. furthermore, the touch surface on the right earcup will still make noises when you touch it, even if you turn off touch controls. these issues, while annoying, hopefully can be fixed in a future software update. these still sound great, and are just very comfortable, and will be perfect i believe if these issues are addressed in a software update.

The noise canceling is excellent, and the feature of being able to put your palm on the right earphone to turn it to temporary transparency mode (and the way it immediately return to noise canceling when you remove your palm) is something the competitors don’t have. Sound quality seems quite high to me, but I admittedly don’t really care. Comfort and noise canceling are more important to me — you try working from home with three kids around! Side note, these are very comfortable to wear for a long time and the built in mics for taking calls / zoom meetings are great. When I listen back to a zoom recording, sound quality of my audio is excellent. Loud, clear, natural sounding, with absolutely zero background noise. I’m sure the Bose 700 are great too, but the palm on the earphone feature on these sealed it for me.

The BEST ANC in the game

I really enjoy these headphones. The audio quality is really good for wireless headphones, and there is the option to use a 3.5mm cable if you would like to make the sound quality even better. The case is bigger than the last generation, but still isn't bulky in my experience carrying it almost everywhere I go. The pass-through mode to hear your surroundings is really good, almost as good as AirPods Pro 2, which is surprising considering the form factor of these close-back headphones. Battery lasts multiple days, even though it takes so little time to charge.

Amazing Sound Quality, NC, and Battery Life

I wore these in an RV, which has a loud motor, with the windows open, and I could not hear the motor and barely the wind while I had the noise cancelling on with a show playing. Another plus is the battery life, which seems to be infinite. Out of the box the headphones were at 50% battery, and I was unable to charge them because I was traveling, so I used them with the battery that was already on them, which lasted for hours upon hours of streaming movies and shows. When I went to check the battery afterwards, they had only gone down a few percent. My only critique is that the headband, although plush, is thin and applies all of the weight and pressure from the headphones onto one part of my head. Aside from this, the headphones are quite comfortable around my ears and I have had no other issues with them.
