Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed.This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I'm coming from Jabra Elite 85H and I mostly listen to podcasts while driving. with the 2-year insurance plan these are $500 with bad touch controls very poor battery life and sound quality and noise canceling that isn't that much better than my 85H. That were $300 with a warranty. These have weird buffering noises while in a vehicle that my last set did not do at $200 less even without the warranty even at $400 these are overpriced and I cannot recommend them to anyone especially with the volume at 50% to 70%, they last about 15 hours versus my 85H with volume from 80 to 90%, they would last 25 to 30 hours. That's the one thing about these headphones is the noise canceling is so good that your volume doesn't need to be as loud but then the battery doesn't last as long, which brings me to the final nail in the coffin and why I'm returning these, you cannot charge them and listen to them at the same time, I don't understand why that is and I'm just grateful that I found that out for the end of my 30-day return. I'm going to try to move to Sennheiser since you cannot buy the 85H any more, I would gladly return to those but they're out of stock on best buy.

We do have suggested troubleshooting steps on the Help Guide to help fix problems you might encounter. Downloading/Installing the headphones connect app is also a recommendation. You can use the app to customize the settings to fine-tune your music. Resetting and Initializing the headphones also helps resolve touch control issues.
Usage hours may be different from the time described above depending on the settings for the headset functions and usage conditions.

Disheartening that the Headphone Failed

After a year of usage, I encountered an issue with the left-sided headphone, which no longer produced sound. Unfortunately, I did not have an extended warranty and opted to send the headphone to Sony’s repair company, Encompass. The diagnosis revealed that both speakers had sustained damage (Both Speakers are Blown). The total cost for the diagnosis, repair parts, and labor amounted to $333.34. The original purchase price of the headphone was $349.79. It is disheartening that the headphone failed and the speakers were damaged after only a year of use. This incident raises concerns about the product’s quality. I would rate the Sony WH-1000XM5 at one out of five stars and urge consumers to be aware of this experience.

I should have read the reviews before purchasing. The M4 which is over $100's less probably is the better value. I am a disappointed with the volume level.

Turn up the volume of the headset and the connected device.
Connect the Bluetooth device to the headset once again.
Reset the headset.
Initialize the headset, and pair the headset and the device again.

This is certainly not the experience we wanted you to have. We want to make sure you are getting the most out of your headphones. If you haven't yet, please make sure that you have downloaded the Sony Headphones Connect app. There you will find all sorts of tools to fine-tune your WH1000XM5 and maximize the volume to your liking. There is even an EQ for bass and treble sound. You can also change the Sound quality mode of these headphones to "Priority on sound quality" to improve your overall listening experience.

Thank you for telling us about your experience with your WH-1000XM5. We're happy that you are enjoying the superb features and excellent audio quality of these headphones. Your feedback is extremely important to us and is very much appreciated. If you use the headset at a place where it is restricted to use Bluetooth devices such as on an airplane, you can use the headset as noise canceling headphones while the headset is connected to a device via the supplied headphone cable and the headset is turned on. You can listen to music even if the headset is turned off. In this case, the noise canceling function cannot be used.
Note: You can use Quick Attention Mode and Speak-to-Chat while the headset is connected to a device via the supplied headphone cable and the headset is turned on. Perform operations, such as adjusting the volume and play/pause, on the playback device. When the headset is turned off, you cannot use Quick Attention Mode and Speak-to-Chat.
