Beware Known Design Flaw
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.What's the point of best-in-class sound quality, noise cancelling, general features. sleek aesthetics, etc. if there's a known design flaw regarding the weak hinges? I had the XM5s for less than three months, coddled the heck out of them, and they still broke. I don't trust the XM5s anymore. Even if they were to be fully replaced for free by Sony. Or if I had to pay "only" $99 to get them replaced by a Sony authorized repair company. I am gonna switch to the XM4s, and I pray to all things holy I don't have any similar issues. Making flagship headphones (with flagship prices) is meaningless if they don't actually last. At least my WH-CH700N "mid-range" headphones have some semblance of sensible design + craftsmanship.

Great sound as always, fit and retention is meh.

Going from the XM4, the fit of the XM5 is not as good as the XM4. The bar is not as wide, and with less padding in the muffs, along with less tension, the headphones slip around more when leaning forward and backward. If they sound better than the XM4, I can't tell. If the XM4 wasn't still more expensive than the 5's, I would have bought the 4's again.

I forget I'm wearing them

The hear through mode is also great, along with the call quality on both mobile and connected to my computer. The only thing I don't like is a feature in the app called spotify tap, personally I don't use spotify, and would like to see options for other music streaming services.
