Cleaner on the low end brings out more detail in the mids and highs. I had moments of "wow...I never heard that before"...and this is coming from the xm4. I won't say it's massively different than the xm4 (I use the bright eq setting) but it's there. Noise cancelling is impressive. Give it about 2 or 3 seconds to adapt to your surroundings and just listen to the quiet kick in. It's pretty cool. I tested it out with a vacuum cleaner running right next to me. At first the xm4s are full on so you might be fooled in thinking that the 5s are worse but let the xm5s adapt and kick in. Once you do you'll be blown away. Larger case and no fold in doesn't bother me. The case is longer but it's also thinner. All in all I'm happy with these. An IP rating would have been nice but at this point and outside of that I'm not sure how you can make these any better. The 6's will have big shoes to fill.

I primarily use these for work as I work alone around woodworking machinery all day. I previously had the Bose quitecomfort 35s for 6yrs and loved them but when they eventually wore out, research led me to try these out. Needless to say, due to the machinery the noise cancelling abilities were my primary concern The good: The sound quality is great, they are very comfortable for extended wear, the app is easy to use and control the headphones The irritating: The noise cancelling ability unfortunately did not meet that of the Bose quitecomfort 35s, don't get me wron it works pretty good, but just not as good which was disappointing. The "auto" features are an absolute annoyance and Inded up turning it off. It would detect I wasn't wearing the headphones even when I was. Constantly having to go back to my phone while I'm working to connect them again. The hand swipe features are cool but they are so sensitive that additionally while I worked it was constantly changing the volume or song when I never intended to. Like it reacts to ANYTHING touching them, not just your hands. The strech strap from my respirator would activate it. The BAD: Not sure if they purposley made the headphones not work right for samsung but, it a huge thing for me. I often work 12-15 hrs a day, take care of the kids and normally am not able to have any time to myself or watch a show until around 10 p.m. obviously, I use the headphones as to not wake anyone in the house up. Unfortunately, for whatever reason the headphones do not time up with the tv and play the sound in an insane reverb/crazy feedback. Its hard to explain but it sounds like its using the sound from the tv to communicate in morse code. I have up to date smart TV and have NEVER had an issue with ANY of my other bluetooth headphones on all of our TVs, and wouldn't you know it. The headphones do it on ALL 3 of our samsung TVs. So, to me to make a product that isnt compatible with the most popular brand of electronics is a HUGE foul. Overall, they sound great when they're working properly and the auto features arent doing whatever. To me they are VERY MEH. Ill have to just go back to the Bose 35s, theyre better than their newest models as well.

This is definitely not the experience we'd like you to have. Sony values the opinions of customers and is always striving to provide the best experience possible. With that said, we'd love to help you troubleshoot your problem and turn this into a better experience.
First, please ensure that the software installed is updated with version 2.1.0. If the effect of noise canceling is not sufficient, please also try the following:
Make sure the noise canceling function is turned on.
Adjust the headset into a comfortable position.
The noise canceling function is effective in low frequency ranges such as airplanes, trains, offices, near air-conditioning, and is not as effective for higher frequencies, such as human voices.
When the Adaptive Sound Control on the “Sony | Headphones Connect” app is turned on, the wearer's actions, like walking or running, are detected. The noise canceling function is automatically adjusted and the Ambient Sound Mode may be activated according to these actions.
To make the most of the noise canceling function, turn off the Adaptive Sound Control, and try to turn on the noise canceling function manually when you need it.

Great sound and I love the noise cancellation feature. However, I don’t recommend these if you’re running because they do tilt depending on your posture and personal speed as you jog/run but overall great to listen to music sitting down, studying, or just to play Roblox with but I don’t use the mic feature as I have my own mic but I use them to hear the in-game sound.

They had excellent sound quality. Ans they looked great. The noise canceling feature was awesome. I really enjoyed these. But the reason I returned them was they felt too tight for my head. No matter how I adjusted them, they always felt like they were too tight.

Love the sound quality. The noise canceling works great for me and I love there’s an ambient sound mode for when I need to pay attention to my surroundings. The headphones also have an app for complete customization and even includes customizing sound based on the way you wear them. Definitely recommend. My only very slight con is that they are sensitive to certain sounds and movements and I need to take a look at how to turn off the chimes because I prefer uninterrupted listening. Other than that, a great purchase.

I watched multiple YouTube reviews and was convinced this was the pair of headphones I wanted. Oh my goodness! These Sony XM 5’s are replacing a five year set of Bose. I didn’t think it would be possible to say an upgrade over Bose would be this dramatic, but it is! The noise canceling is excellent, and when you download the app and use the 360 Reality Audio, the sound is truly amazing! If you’re in the market, stop into Best Buy and give these a listen. I highly recommend these headphones.

Dog groomers best friend

Even though it says not to sweat in them its really dependent on how much you sweat. I worked at a dog salon and wore these everyday. Noise cancelation is out of this world. If you work as a groomer, these are really good to have. They withstand extremely high pitched noises in the background as well.

I didn't think they were coming until August. My Bose 700 were stolen and so I wound up getting these and have to say, the Sony are better in sound isolation, sound quality using Tidal (3d audio, eq) and they cancel out everything! The hand over the right ear to amplify the outside world for you hear is an amazing touch. I use these for remote working all over town. I'm always in my headphones but can let in people as I want. A blessing for my social anxiety. The only spot that Bose has these beat is on the device switching. This may be a familiarity thing at this point. TBD
