I love it Best purchase I ever made!! The sound is amazing

So i tried both XM4 and XM5 and I personally liked the xm4 better. music just hit more with the xm4. the xm5 for some reason weren’t loud enough the bass was not there and was a little disappointed when i got the xm5. Yes the noise canceling its better but thats about it. I would recommend the XM4 over these . Even with the EQ on the sony app it still didnt make music sound as good as the xm4. And one more thing withthe xm5 my ears would get hot and sweaty in about ten minutes of having them on. With the xm4 i dont get none of that at all even after a couple hours of use and i have pretty big ears. Would definitely recommend xm4 over these way more comfortable sound better and a little cheaper. Thought the xm5 would be an upgrade version of these for being more expensive but that wasnt the case . I stuck the the xm4.

Sony has done it yet again; they’ve actually improved upon what I feel are the BEST noise cancelling wireless over-ear headphones available! The WH-1000XM5 Wireless Noise Canceling Over-the-Ear Headphones are the newly released version from Sony and they have added even more user-friendly features and technology than the previous versions…and updated the look to a more modern design. What’s in the box - The headphones ship with a great zippered carrying case, a USB-C fast charging cable, an audio cable for wired connection and instructions/paperwork/360 Music offer. The headphones fold much easier compared to the previous versions. There is no more origami-like folding, just turn the ear cups and put them in the case…which is a good size for traveling. They fit perfectly in the outside pocket of my backpack. The earphones were fully charged out of the box, so all that’s needed to get started (optional really, as they headphones will connect to your Bluetooth device anyway) is download the Sony Headphones Connect app and set up the earphones. There was a software update available for the headphones and it updated once they were connected. Fit and Function - The first thing I noticed was the new sleeker, more modern looking and lighter design of the XM5s. Although the design has changed, the comfort level is as plush and comfortable as ever. The ear cups and headband are super plush and easy to adjust to your head size. I've been wearing them almost non-stop for the last couple of days and there are no hotspots or uncomfortable rubbing. Hold the power button for a couple of seconds and then the magic starts, the noise canceling technology is fantastic, literally cutting out all the background noise as I mowed the lawn, went running or just listening to music while working around the house (my wife texts me as I can't hear her!). With the Auto Switching Based on Action, the noise cancelling level adjusts to your activity and the outside noise. Sound Quality - The sound quality is the BEST I've ever heard from Bluetooth NC headphones. Straight out of the box these things rock, but the Headphone Connect app gives the user the ability to set custom preferences for sound and services. From a noise canceling perspective Sony touts 8 total microphones and a newly designed 30mm driver to provide optimized noise canceling performance. So the 1000XM5s provide industry leading noise canceling and music that is so crisp and clear on the highs and the bass is rich and deep. Quality sound as expected from Sony! Headphone Connect App - it's a great tool for taking advantage of the many settings these headphones provide like Adaptive Sound Control, Noise Canceling Optimizer, Surround, Equalizer, Sound Quality Mode, Voice Assist, etc. Open the app, turn on the headphones and hold them close to connect and you’re ready to customize the earphones. The app is broken into four sections: Status, Sound. System and Services. Some of the functions are automatic like the Adaptive Sound Control - this will detect your surroundings and adjust the headphones accordingly. You can also select the Noise Canceling levels. The System tab is all about the operational settings like Auto Power Off, Touch Sensors, etc. Super easy to use and a great tool that’s very well laid out for the user. Cool (and totally useful) Functions - Not only do these headphones rock, they are loaded with super cool and totally useful Touch Features so you can adjust the music level, FF, Pause, answer phone calls, etc. by simply touching the right ear cup. And if that isn't enough, Sony has upped the game by adding Speak-To-Chat which stops the music and let’s in ambient sound so you can hold a conversation without having to take the earphones off or cover the right earphone (which still works) as the previous version supported. The other new function that really stands out to me is the Automatic Off (Wearing Detection) feature. By simply taking the headphones off, music is instantly paused until they are put back on…then the music instantly starts up again automatically. Not sure how Sony will add more features to these headphones in the future…but I’m sure they will do something amazing! Phone Calls – Sound is great both on the speaker and headphone sides. No complaints from anyone I’ve talked to on the headphones. Your music will start right back up once the call is ended. Totally hands free and couldn’t be any easier to use! Battery Life - As mentioned, they came fully charged and after multiple days of use, they are still at 60%...this absolutely crushes the battery performance of my other NC headphones. And on top of that, there’s a quick charge feature that adds 3 hours of charge in just 3 minutes. Worrying about battery life is completely off the table based on my experience to date. Pros: - Noise Canceling and Sound Quality are second to none - Support for connecting to 2 different devices simultaneously - Ease of adjustability of sound and functions - Touch & Automatic Controls - control your music, pause or call without ever touching your phone - Fit and comfort is outstanding, even after hours of use – no hot spots - Sony’s Headphone Connect App give the user complete control over setup and functionality of headphones - Taking Phone Calls - crisp and clear even in a crowded room - Recycled packaging is a nod to the environment by Sony Cons: - The new case is a bit larger than in the past, not a huge issue, but something that stood out The Sony WH-1000XM5 Wireless Noise Canceling Over-the-Ear Headphones are by far one of my new favorite devices and would 100% recommend them to anyone looking for the BEST noise canceling and function-packed over-the-ear headphones available.

The most comfortable headphones I’ve ever worn. Most headphones I can’t wear for more than a hour without a headache so that was the selling point. Sound seems very good, but I haven’t really compared with others. My only complaint is that the Sony app has some scary terms and conditions that make it sound like I’m signing away the rights to everything I listen to, which is just not ok in my book. I ended up not installing their app which I think means I’m missing out on some of the noise cancellation features which really sucks. I wish places still made technology that works on its own without additional requirements.

The Sony WH-1000XM5 Noise Canceling Headphones are fantastic. It has been about 4 year since purchasing my last set of noise canceling headphones and these are lightyears ahead in technology. I was awestruck with the abilities of these headphones along with the wearability and comfort. The headphones are in a soft, yet sturdy case. The look of the headphones is sleek with minimal design features including a small connector between the ear pieces and the head piece. The connector is not only minimal but functional allowing for smooth glide for fit around the head. The whole headset has a soft, foam-like material making wear comfortable even for hours. Speaking of which one can easily get over 24 hours of use on one charge. The case also has a magnetic cover to house the charging cable along with an audio cable to make the headset wired. Setup of the headphones is quick. There is a QR code included as a link to the phone application. The headphones connect via Bluetooth. There is also an opportunity to use 360 Reality Audio with the headphones. 360 Reality Audio is enabled with certain music applications and further information is accessible via the application. During the setup of this feature, one's ears are actually analyzed which seems baffling that we can use this sort of information to enhance a listening experience. The sound quality of these headphones is intertwined with their largest boasting feature, noise cancellation. Overall the sound quality is crisp and clear, with deep, beautiful bass. I find it difficult to articulate sound quality, but simply put these are immersive and beautiful. There are 8 microphones throughout the headphones to enable unprecedented noise cancellation. I initially was unsure what benefit multiple microphones meant with noise cancelation; however, it enables the ability to not only provide proper noise cancellation but also ambient noise settings. There is a setting for full noise cancellation, which does a splendid job. With music playing at lower settings, the surrounding sound is minutely heard while still having clear audio. At medium volume, almost all noise is wonderfully canceled. I believe that these are absolutely fantastic for travel, relaxation, or studying. I would have loved to have these in the recent years while studying for exams. Instead of just different levels of noise cancellation the headphones allow for ambient settings. Where you may select for surrounding ambient noise to be allowed through. While traveling this allows for mild hearing of sounds around oneself that are vital to safety. Furthermore, you may activate a setting that allows for ambient voices to come through – probably the craziest feature (and coolest) in my opinion. With this activated, voices are still transmitted through the headphones while other ambient noise is filtered. For myself, I like to hear people around myself at times and this allows for it – or keeping an ear out for something my wife may say that otherwise would have been canceled out making a not happy wife! There is a setting that may be activated to turn off audio for 15sec upon hearing the listener's voice. This allows for communicating without removing the headphones, ultimately this is spectacular if on the go. The headphones also boast learning different ambient environments and automatically adjusting to the location as they learn the level of noise surrounding oneself. The other enjoyable aspect of the headphones is the hand control. The earpiece will accept commands. Two taps to start/pause music. A hand over the headphone will dampen audio sound and enhance ambient noise to allow for quickly hearing the surrounding world (fantastic for travel announcements). A swipe forward will skip a song, swipe back to repeat, swipe up to increase volume, and a swipe down to decrease. Enjoyable functionality with just the movement of one's hand. Two taps will also pick up a call, which has crisp clarity and per friend report on the other side of the call the 4 microphones for user voice work are spectacularly being easily heard even in busy environments. Truthfully, to the average user as myself it is a mystery as to how the multiple microphones with an integrated noise canceling processor works, but I know that this technology absolutely does work. Quite impressive overall. Fabulous sound quality of the headphones, including the 360 Reality Audio feature, while having impeccable noise cancellation.

Very comfortable and great noise canceling! These do no hurt my head compared to the apple air maxes and are much affordable.

Love these earphones, I owned the previous version and it was a no brainer to get the upgraded xm5 when it was time. I believe the noise cancellation and quality is the same if not better than the Pro Max and they close 1-200 more than these.

First of all, this is my first review of any product, but I felt compelled to after using these headphones for three days now. Having owned a plethora of headphones ranging from the best of Skullcandy, to Beats by Dr. Dre, JBL, and now Sony, I can honestly say that Sony has them all beat at this price-point. Sound Quality: Relenting audio quality among all genres. I listen to various genres ranging from EDM/Trap/Future Bass to Hip-Hop, Country, Rock, and even choral pieces by Eric Whitacre. These headphones never fail to deliver. The highs are crisp, yet not unbearable. The mids aren't "muddied" as seen in many of the rivals, and with Sony's built in "True Bass" EQ, Bass heads will be very pleased. Overall, the quality and equalization of voice to music is pristine straight out of the box. Within the Sony App, there's a built-in application that has presets, but as always, you're free to find the sound that best suits you. Battery Life: The Battery life is remarkable for everything that you're getting. I played Hi-Fi music for almost 28 hours with full ANC on and it handled in wonderfully. Once I charged it, it took a remarkably short period of time before it was back to 100% and ready to go. If you're in an area where it's already quiet, there's an option to turn minimize or turn the ANC off entirely which prolongs the battery life even more. Connectivity: Seamless to all of my devices. Both of my phones showcased the option for LDAC and it truly does make a difference, especially in situations where the music is quiet. The distance I can travel from my headphones hasn't been put to the test truly as the host device is always right with the headphones. Sony App: As previously mentioned, these headphones come with the Sony App that allows you to update the headphones, manage devices, and setup the EQ to your personal preference, including the amount of bass that you like. It's intuitive, light, and extremely manageable. You can also toggle multiple functions, my favorite of which is "pause when removed". Whenever I take them off, the headphones automatically stop playing the music, to which they immediately start back up when put back on. Wearability: As previously mentioned, I wore these headphones for 28 hours straight and had absolutely no discomfort. Packaging is easy in the case supplied, and the headphones themselves are highly customizable for comfortability and total sound enhancement. It also seamlessly connects to google connect and to my amazement, has the ability to perform a multitude of tasks without ever touching your phone. Durability: I haven't had them for too long, and I'm not a paid reviewer, so I don't plan on intentionally trying to break these headphones. With that being said, the band is extremely flexible and the build feels solid enough while maintaining a reasonable level of weight. The only negative with these headphones is that you have to subscribe to particular music providers such as Tidal to experience the immersive 360-degree audio. They give you a quick trial of what it offers, but I have yet to fully evaluate the feature as I'm personally not a fan of the limited selections on the platforms given. I hope that they bring this feature to Spotify. Overall, for the $400 range, these headphones are extremely versatile for multiple styles and preferences. If you're looking to stay below $400 but don't want to get boxed in with the factory EQ settings and seemingly low-quality sound, these are the way to go for streaming, listening, or on the go audio. Hopefully this helps!

I've owned all the previous generations of the X1000 series and all have been stellar performers. This 5th iteration again does not disappoint. Once they were revealed, I was more than happy to pick up a pair and give them a try. As I said, they are fantastic but not perfect. It's hard to fault them but I did find a couple of things I'd address. One more thing to note is that they are a bit more expensive this time around. After unpacking, first thing I noticed was the new style/design. It's a sleeker take this time out. There are only 2 buttons on them. One for power and one for the programmable noise cancellation/ambient sound control. There is also a headphone jack in case you want to use them corded. The headband is attached differently now and they don't fold up like all the previous versions. That is not ideal but it's also not a major issue for me, anyway. The earcups are made from what I think is synthetic leather but I'm not sure. The charcoal fabric carrying case is larger and has a built-in storage compartment that has a magnetic lid. The compartment holds an included 3.5mm headphone cable and a USB A to USB C charging cable. The case still fits just fine in my backpack for when I bike to work. Set up was just as easy as always. You just need to connect via Bluetooth and you'll need the Sony Headphones app to access all the extra features that are offered, and it's a long list. One major thing I have noticed is that they are extremely light. It's amazing they packed more features and battery life while making them much lighter. It may be from the new non foldable headband but I'm not sure. They ear cups are pivoted slightly forward as well and they rest nicely on my head. One gripe I do have is that I get warm wearing them and I've noticed sweat around the ear cups. That's not a good thing as they are not water resistant in any way. Of course, listening performance is fantastic. The Bluetooth connection is now 5.2 which allows for even farther distance from source. They sound very similar to the M4 version but apparently they have improved upon the Noise Cancellation/Ambient Sound feature. There are more processors built in as well as more microphones which allow for better handling of exterior sounds. I really didn't notice that much different from my M4s but for me, at this point, they are already so good that its moot. The app is packed with additional sound control features like the custom equalizer, Ambient Sound Control, 360 Reality Audio and DSEE Extreme upscaler. Plus it still offers the amazing programmable touch controls found on the previous generations. I actually think they work better this time – far fewer errors while swiping. If you're a Spotify user, there is now the option to set up a quick access tap to launch Spotify directly. Battery life is up 10 hours to 40 hours with ANC on...that's amazing! My one other gripe I mentioned before was that while using these, certain songs seem to get muddy. Things sound a bit mushed together and harsh. It's rare but I have definitely noticed it where I really didn't hear that on my M4s. I was a little surprised. Generally though, they are well balanced, clear and have strong bass response. Overall, Im super happy with the new version of an already amazing headphone series. Sony seems to outdo itself with every version and still remains at the very top of list for headphones priced at this range. Even with a couple of small gripes, I'm ecstatic to use these as my everyday, go to headphones.

I ordered these headphones online. They were meant to come in the next day but there was a small mistake and the headphones didn't come until the next working day. Other than that, the headphones themselves work great. I have three dogs that love to bark and these drown them out very well. I wish they came with more detailed instructions as I had to look up how to use them properly. If you had any of the prior headphones in these series they work the same.

I’m someone who has gone through many headphones in my lifetime, and these are beyond the best I’ve had. They fit on your ears comfortably, they don’t hurt even if you have them on for a long time, etc etc. The noise-cancelling feature is a godsend, but don’t use them when it’s windy or when you have your windows down when riding in the car, because they can impact your hearing and make it feel like a suction cup. I’ve had to have people shouting my name just for me to hear them, or where they tap me to get my attention. It also feels nice just to have on, even when you’re not wearing music. I’ve worn them to many places the entire time I’ve had these headphones and it works wonders. I also find it nice that there’s an option between having background noise on, or none. Sometimes I just enjoy having music on in the background in my head while talking to people, like your own little radio. The battery life is very bearable, amazing even. They last for 3 days with time between taking them off, and they warn you very gently once the battery gets low enough; I’ve had problems where some headphones tell me very aggressively and I’d rather just have the earbuds off. They are very light, sleek, and go amazing with every outfit. They keep your ears warm when it’s cold out, too. Sometimes you can’t tell you even have them on. The only issue I’ve had with the design was that I’m not aware of my surroundings much, so I bump into things on the side such as getting into the car or closing my front door. They haven’t scratched at all though, even with how much I’ve accidentally banged them against something. So yes, the Sony XM5’s are very very much worth it. The price may stray people from getting them, but these will last you through thick and thin. I’d say just get these rather than get any other headphones, because I’m sure the price itself adds up to the price of all the headphones I’ve purchased throughout the years. They have many settings, and the touch controls are lovely to use and so easy to figure out. You will never have to pull out your phone again just to connect to these headphones, turn up/down, skip songs. These are some of the finest, and if you don’t like some of the settings automatically set on the headphones, you can always change it in the app. I recommend these for headphone users 100%.

Amazing noise cancelling and great sound. Certain sounds can slip through if they’re high pitched enough but I don’t believe that’s the fault of the headphones. Lacking in bass which I’ve heard the xm4 is better for but every other sound is amazing. App is very easy to use and equalizer helps fine tune for personal sound preference

You want some honesty. Im at a beach right now. Just had one of the best freestyles in a while. This is such an immersive experience. You connect so much better with music . I feel like these are a tool for me to sharpen my skills and also have a deeper appreciation of music. Should have gotten these sooner. They are well worth the money
