I previously had Bose QuietComfort, but the sound quality with the WH1000XM5 is significantly better. I have never had a pair of Sony headphones as I have always been partial to Bose. After purchasing these headphones, Sony will be my go-to choice. Also, the app you download with these headphones allows you to customize your sound experience more than any other headphones I have had. Would definitely recommend this product.

Worth it in every way

First, the Noise Cancelling is VERY good. At the gym, (which yes I sweat in these and I havent had an issue yet) everything around me is completely tuned out. Or, if I am there with my friends, I turn on Ambient Noise so I can jam to my music but still hear them talk (coolest feature I wanted). At first, I thought the app was going to be annoying, I just wanted to connect them to bluetooth, but I found the app’s customizable sound options can completely level up the way you listen to music. These are also super comfortable, and you can almost forget youre wearing them on your head. All of these features make these headphones well worth the $400, and I saved myself $150 chosing these over the Airpod Max which has the same features.

What an amazing set of headphones

I didnt think the xm5 would be much of a difference but it turned out to be the subtle diffrrence that made it worth the upgrade. I love Sonys' headphone app. It gives so much control over fine tuning my personal sound and noise cancelation. Something was weird today, the headphones started cutting out sound today and purposely going to aware mode with the noise cancelation. I read up a little on this and found it that it was caused by me talking. Once i setup google assistant on it whenever i talk with somewhat of a loud level it will cut off sound on purpose so i can listen and have a conversation. That to me is a golden feature which sony has included in their programming. Sound is 10/10 Comfort is 10/10 they are light enough to wear all day and not get those ear cuff rings around your head lol. App is 10/10 Overall, to me, Sony has been killing it in this price range of noise cancelling headphones.

Only complaint is that the EQ is kinda meh, and it needs some tuning to dial it in. It’s a shame the EQ settings don’t work when connected to anything other than a phone with the Sony Headphones app. Other than that, they’re an awesome pair of headphones, but maybe not with the upgrade if you’re already on the XM4s, or even XM3s.

The build quality is excellent, and sounds amazing too. They are more comfortable than the wh-1000 xm4 and have better noise isolation. They still come with the cord with mic and extras for travel. I'd say they sound a little better but more improved is the comfort and battery life! The battery is significantly better. I'd recommend these especially at the sale price.

It’s still a great product, but…

The regular listener won’t be able to tell the difference between these and the previous XM4. Only thing I don’t like is they went with a thinner top cushion and a cheap organic material for the ear cups which makes it feel more in the 250 dollar range off the get go and not 350-400 dollars. The top cushion will make your head irritated after a while making me have to shift it back and forward. Makes it itchy. They should have kept the width of the XM4’s for the top. Noise isolation is good but I feel like the cheap material is making some sound to come in. This is a stipulation and would have to try the XM4’s again to verify this. Ear cushion could have used a bit more cushion. They are supper soft and push in too much. I’m interested to know more about the XM6 and may return these if they fix some of my preferred things I mentioned otherwise, these will have to do.

Our WH-1000XM5 has a slider that you can use to adjust the length of the headband to get the best fit and for comfortable listening experience.
Note: If you put on the headset without adjusting the slider, the headset may not be positioned properly on your head, resulting in discomfort or a weak noise canceling effect.

These are Amazing!

I’ve used them for over a month now and have to say I’ve honestly never had headphones that are so comfortable and fit so well. They’re my first pair of expensive over the ear headphones, so I was worried they would squeeze my head tight, but I’ve even fallen asleep with them and felt fine! I’ve worn them for hours on end, the battery does last a while even when not fully charged. The app for the headphones could be a little bit more user friendly and have a few bugs worked out, but it’s still easy enough to use. Pairing is simple, it even paired to the Bluetooth on my television. These are also my first noise cancelling headphones, and it’s really nice! It even worked well for me when I was sewing on my sewing machine and my partner was playing video games next to me. The music on a low volume was still enough to completely drown out everything too.

It tugs on my scalp so that's a no brainer. Returned. If only they kept the xm4 fit and design combined w this lighter weight and tech. The beam mic and ai voice processing tech is incredible. The noise cancellation on the mic is possibly better than xm4 but I think Bose voice isolation is better because I tested w music on the soundbar and no one could hear blasting on zoom while I talked! Just use Sony in a quiet setting and way more crystal clear than Bose.

We’re sorry to hear the WH-1000XM5 wasn't the right fit for you. We redesigned this model with a slimmer "noiseless" headband to reduce weight, but we understand that the different distribution of pressure can feel less comfortable for some compared to the fold-flat design of the XM4.
