I loved the sound quality and noise cancellation, but as a glasses wearer my head would start hurting if I wore them for too long. I then turned to Bose’s QuietComfort but ended up returning them immediately because the sound quality and noise cancellation just didn’t match Sonys. So I decided to try the XM5s and they are truly the best headphones I’ve had. As comfortable if not more so than the Bose headphones, but with a far superior sound quality and noise cancellation. (So if you’re on the fence between the Bose and the Sony, go with the Sony!) My only very nitpicky complaint is that the microphone only works via Bluetooth, so if you’re using these headphones wired the microphone won’t work. Although this is probably not an issue for most people. And while some people don’t like that they don’t fold up I don’t mind and think the non-folding structure probably helps them feel more comfortable.

Please be advised that the microphone function of the headphones is disabled when using the supplied cable. Use the mic of your source device. These can be used with glasses. The WH-1000XM5 fits snugly around your ears. Unfortunately, they don't fold as they do in the XM4. For comfort, try adjusting the headband and the earpads properly. These lightweight headphones are beautifully finished in newly developed soft fit leather. This material fits snugly around the head with less pressure on the ears while keeping out external sounds. LOVE these headphones

The ANC on these is very good as well, I wear these at university all the time and I can attest these are amazing, much better than my AirPod Pros that I used to use for studying and writing papers

I care more about the audio quality of a game, movie, song than most other things. My previous headphones were v-moda crossfade m100s, which still work btw 10 years later. I wanted to move onto wireless headphones as the convenience is great. The active noise canceling is awesome and the sound quality of these headphones is awesome. Sony has always been a great company, imo, and they have always done one thing well with audio, and that is bass. The bass out of these headphones is well done and refined. Not over powering, nor dull. The highs and mids are just as good as the vmodas as well. Good job Sony, these are awesome headphones. Oh! The app with the equalizers and such is great, and the hand gestures and features is really cool.

Audio quality is without equal. The bass is measured and enjoyable without being overbearing. Clarity and detail are exceptional. The battery life is outstanding. I do, however, wish these were water resistant. Sony needs more songs available in 360 Reality Audio to make that a compelling draw. It didn't make me want to keep Deezer Premium. I went back to my traditional plan.

Owned for 1 year when reviewed.This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Absolutely amazing product which is to be expected from Sony, has top notch microphones for audio calls and the sound is deep and powerful but crisp ive been using theses for a few months and I Absolutely love them but I also switch between my Bose Quiet Comfort Ultra they both have positives and negatives but I personally lean more towards Sony for sound quality but I do wish that they would implement a similar feature to Bose's immersive sound function but I would definitely recommend getting these especially if you're on a tighter budget

He was very impressed with the noise cancellation and swipe touch features on the unit themselves. They look really sharp (along with the case). I personally have had a set of this same product but about 6 years older. They are holding up very well and big fan of this product line from Sony.

Very comfortable, with excellent sound. Very light. Easy to pair. Only reason I didn't give 5 stars is the black color has major fingerprint issues. Feels like the OLD Apple notebooks or the IBM Thinkpads from wayback. Should have bought silver.

The app is super easy to use, and is very customizable to your own personal fit. One thing thats weird is the headphones swivel outwards rather than inwards, meaning the inside of the headphones are exposed when around neck. Thats one thing thats odd, also the case, the flat part is actually the top. Which is funny because you would think that the flat size is the bottom (where it would rest). Just everything feels backwards when it comes to the case and how the headphones swivel. Other than that, everything is great, i love the colors too.

I used to travel with my airpod pro's, but they would die so quickly. These literally last forever, they are super comfortable, and they block out a ton of sound. I highly recommend these.

ANC is disappointing

First thing I noticed was they are super light weight! Once I got them connected to my iPhone the sound is fantastic, battery life is superb too! My biggest disappointment with these cans is the ANC! I took these on a flight today from Indianapolis to Las Vegas so I was on the plane for 4 hours just to find out these lack the ANC other headphones such as the airpod pro max and the Bose 700 offer. I own the AirPods max and have used a pair of Bose 700 extensively, especially on flights so hearing how the new Sony’s performed was very disappointing. If the AirPods max block out 95% of the noise I would say the Sony’s are 70%. It’s hard to explain but if you fly a lot then expect to be disappointed. You can obviously judge for yourself but after I got back in to town I drove to Best Buy just to take them back. ANC is a huge plus for me when I buy headphones, especially for the price that Sony is charging for them I want them to perform the way I expect. Apple is still the king of ANC and it’s by a mile, once again if you don’t believe me give it a try and you’ll see for yourself. I really have no idea how the reviews on YouTube are saying they’re that much better cause they’re not. If ANC isn’t a big deal for you then the weight, battery life, soundstage and look of the headphones are definitely superb! On another note the ambient mode is better than the XM4’s and the Bose 700 but fall to the AirPods max. Also I need to add the connectivity is great for an android but it’s not going to come close to how apple connects with the air pods max. Yes there is the price difference between the two but like they said, “You get what you pay for”

A fine upgrade from the XM3s with some caveats

Not fond of the disconnections that tend to happen occasionally in the background, but I can tolerate it given the value of being able to stay connected to mobile and PC and swap between the two. I would only say that the mobile app can be slow to start up, and there's no alternative way to manage the connections outside this app that I know of.
