Watched all the YouTube reviews and decided to try it out. Needless to say, I was not impressed with the audio. I tried it on my Galaxy device to get the LDAC audio codec since the iPhone doesn’t support it, but I still wasn’t impressed. Noise canceling is not as good as the videos make it seem to be. My AirPods Max sound way better in every aspect.

      Hi AbdoulayeG,

Thank you for sharing your feedback about the Sony WH-1000XM6. We're truly sorry to hear that your experience with noise cancelation hasn't been as expected, and we truly appreciate you taking the time to let us know. Your comments about the app requirement and the sound leakage are also valuable and have been shared with our product team.

To help improve your listening experience, please try the following steps:

      1. Ensure Noise Cancelation is ON - Press the NC/AMB button and run the Noise Canceling Optimizer through the Sony Headphones Connect app to tailor ANC to your fit and surroundings.

      2. Check the Fit and Seal - Make sure the earcups fully cover your ears and the pads form a tight seal. Even slight gaps can reduce ANC performance and increase sound leakage.

      3. Update Firmware - Use the Sony Headphones connect app to confirm your headphones have the latest firmware, as updates can enhance ANC and overall performance.

If you've tried these steps and still notice issues, you can contact our support team so they can assist you further: https://us.esupport.sony.com/support/s/support-contact?language=en_US&category=headphones

We appreciate your honest feedback and the opportunity to help improve your experience with Sony.

Touch sensor started pausing and starting music and hanging up calls. I've owned this pair for only three months. Because they're over $400 I baby these things so much - no water, no oils, no sweating... I wear them in the office for a few hours each day, no running, no banging them against stuff - they just sit on my head and in the case... I had XM5s - battery stopped charging after a year. I had a second pair of XM5s, touch sensor started acting up after a year. And then this pair starts acting up after 3 months, I shouldn't have to have a $400 annual headphone budget. I originally purchased these because of ANC and music quality - which is very, very good. But at this price point, there should be zero hardware issues for several years.

Thank you for sharing this detailed and honest feedback, DisplayName12345.

We are truly sorry to hear about the repeated issues you've experienced with our premium headphones, and especially that the touch sensor on your new WH-1000XM6 is acting up after only three months. Given the care you've taken and your long history with the WH-1000X series, your frustration is completely understandable.

You are absolutely right—at this price point, you should expect years of flawless hardware performance. We appreciate you acknowledging the very good ANC and music quality, but we apologize that the hardware reliability has not met your expectations, or ours.

We want to resolve this for you immediately. Since you're encountering an issue that impacts basic function (pausing, starting, and hanging up calls), we strongly recommend contacting our dedicated support team right away. They can guide you through specific troubleshooting steps, such as resetting the headphones or disabling the touch panel via the Sony Headphones Connect app.

Thank you again for your loyalty and for bringing this critical quality concern to our attention.

      Hello Cdogg.

We appreciate your candid feedback on the WH-1000XM6 headphones. We're sorry to hear that the swiping accuracy on the touch controls isn't meeting your expectations and that you're experiencing issues with the color and material showing dirt quickly when used beyond studio environments—we agree the black option might have been a more practical choice.

We understand your comparison to the WH-1000XM4 model, and we acknowledge that different generations have their unique strengths and user experiences. Regarding the touch control responsiveness, we recommend ensuring your firmware is up to date via the Sony | Headphones Connect app, as updates can often improve performance.

If you'd like to troubleshoot the touch controls further or discuss product care for the material, please feel free to contact our support team at https://us.esupport.sony.com/support/s/support-contact?language=en_US&category=headphones

Ill start by saying I have never been a big Sony fan when it comes to Audio. But they got it right with these. First when they say that the active noise canceling is the quietest out there, its not a lie. I have used these is several different noisy environments and everytime they block out 99.9 percent of the noise. They are light weight and comfortable. They adjust in several different ways to fit your head perfectly. Volume and skips or answering the phone is done with a simple swipe of the ear piece. Sound quality is pretty amazing as well. The downloadable App for sony gives you control over the EQ, active noise canceling and several other options. They come in a very nice case for when not being used, a 3.5 to 3.5mm headphone cable for connecting to non-bluetooth devices like when on an airplane, and a usb-c to usb-c cable for charging. I have used these while mowing the lawn and could barely hear my gas powered lawn mower. Again the active noise canceling is amazing. Battery life is great, I have used these for well over 12hrs and they are still above 50% battery life. So if youre looking for a Comfortable, high sound quality pair of bluetooth headphones. Look no further.

The Sony WH-1000XM6 noise-canceling headphones represent a significant step forward in Sony’s flagship line, building on the legacy of the acclaimed XM5 with refined design, enhanced audio, and industry-leading noise cancellation. After spending considerable time with these headphones, they aim to set a new standard in the premium wireless headphone market. Priced at around $450, they compete directly with top-tier options like the Bose QuietComfort Ultra and Apple AirPods Max, offering a robust feature set for music lovers, travelers, and professionals. This review evaluates their performance, comfort, and features, weighing both strengths and weaknesses for a balanced perspective. Sound quality is a standout feature of the WH-1000XM6. Sony’s collaboration with mastering audio engineers and including a new “soft edge” dome driver delivers a balanced, detailed soundstage. The bass is controlled yet impactful, mids are clear with a slight warmth, and highs are crisp without being harsh. The 10-band equalizer in the Sony Sound Connect app allows for precise customization, making it easy to tailor the sound to genres like jazz or electronic music. However, some listeners may notice a slight treble sibilance out of the box, which can be mitigated with EQ adjustments but might bother audiophiles seeking a neutral profile. Compared to competitors like the Bowers & Wilkins Px7 S3, the XM6 offers a more dynamic and expressive sound, though it may not match the AirPods Max’s wider soundstage for certain tracks. The adaptive noise cancellation (ANC) is among the best available, powered by the HD Noise Canceling Processor QN3 and 12 microphones (up from eight in the XM5). It excels at suppressing low-end and midrange noise, such as airplane hums or office chatter, creating a near-silent listening environment. In variable noise conditions, like commuting in a bustling city, the adaptive NC optimizer adjusts seamlessly, though it lacks the manual ANC control found on Bose’s QuietComfort Ultra. Transparency mode is equally impressive, offering natural ambient sound, and call quality is exceptional, with AI beamforming ensuring straightforward voice pickup even in noisy settings. However, the ANC can feel slightly less aggressive than Bose’s for constant droning sounds, and some users may experience a subtle pressure sensation during prolonged use. Design and comfort see meaningful upgrades. The return to foldable earcups makes the XM6 more travel-friendly, fitting into a slimmer, magnetic-clasp case that’s a joy to use. The wider, asymmetrical headband and plush earpads enhance comfort for extended wear, though the faux leather earpads may feel less premium than the genuine leather on higher-end models like the Focal Bathys. Battery life remains strong at 30 hours with ANC on, and the ability to listen while charging is a welcome addition. Touch controls are intuitive, but the Sound Connect app can feel cluttered, and features like 360 Reality Audio Upmix for Cinema are underwhelming, adding artificial effects that detract from the listening experience. The lack of aptX codec support may disappoint some Android users seeking high-resolution audio over Bluetooth via that codec. Overall, the Sony WH-1000XM6 is stellar for most users, offering top-tier noise cancellation, versatile sound, and thoughtful design improvements. It shines for travel, work, and casual listening, but its $450 price tag and minor drawbacks, like the finicky spatial audio and absence of manual ANC adjustments, keep it from true perfection. That said, these really are the best you can get in the market as of this writing. If you own the XM5, the upgrades may not justify the cost, but for new buyers or those upgrading from older models, the XM6 delivers a premium experience that’s hard to beat.

They hurt my ears, which is disappointing. Cool app, but I bought some Dyson OnTrac headphones to replace these and those are much more comfortable. If you’re more worried about your headphones falling off than you are about your ears being comfy, these are probably fine for you. The OnTrac isn’t as snug, but that makes it easier for me to wear.

Thank you for sharing your feedback and for highlighting both what you liked and what you found challenging with the WH-1000XM6, AlessandraF. We’re truly sorry to hear that the fit caused discomfort for your ears. Comfort is incredibly important to us, and we understand how essential it is for headphones to be enjoyable during extended wear.

The WH-1000XM6 is designed to provide a secure fit and premium audio experience. However, we recognize that headphone comfort can be very personal and can vary depending on individual preferences and head shapes. To help improve your experience, we suggest checking that the sliders are adjusted so the headband rests softly on the top of your head and the ear pads fully cover your ears without pressing against them. Ensuring the ear pads don’t bump your ears or slip off can make a significant difference in comfort. Wearing the headphones over hats or thick hair can also impact fit and sensor performance, so for best results, wear them directly on your head.

We appreciate your note about the Dyson OnTrac headphones feeling less snug. The WH-1000XM6 aims for a stable fit, which can be important for situations where headphones must stay in place, but we understand that for some, a looser fit feels more comfortable. Your feedback helps us as we continually refine our products, and we’re grateful you took the time to share your experience.

If you have any other questions about adjusting your headphones, please let us know. Thank you again for your honest review and choosing Sony.

In short these Sony XM6 headphones have good build quality, good sound, great noise cancelling, good overall refinement. Overall recommended for over-ear noise cancelling use. Continue reading for more details. Build and overall The XM6 come in a nice fabric storage case. The ear cups rotate to let the headphones fit nicely in the case without it taking up too much space. The case is high quality with a magnetic side latch. The headphones themselves strike a good balance of light weight and good build quality. I found that on my head I had to extend each side slightly and the fit on the ears was good. I didn't feel any annoying sensation of my ears rubbing inside the ear cups which was good. The headphones only have two physical buttons which I really like for the simplicity - noise canceling and power/bluetooth. That said, the side cups can be used to swipe to change track and volume which is another nice touch that worked well. Pairing and App I paired these with an iPhone and the pairing was immediate with no issues. It even prompted me to download the companion app which allows a few settings to be changed such as EQ and listening mode, as well as to swap between noise canceling modes. You can view the type of audio being played and the battery life on the app too. Sound quality I listened to these for a few hours before this review. Overall they offer a sound signature that will appeal to a wide audience. On the default/flat eq setting, the bass is present and slightly elevated but not overdone. The midrange is accurate and detailed but not over-emphasized or overly clinical. The treble feels slightly rolled off which has the effect of making the music sound less harsh over time, but slightly less detailed. It makes for an easy to listen to headphone without listening fatigue over time and a sound signature that almost everyone will find satisfying. Noise canceling Excellent. Both the noise cancelling and transparency/ambient modes work very well. I was able to mow the lawn on noise cancelling mode with excellent results. I was happy to see that the ambient mode works well too, without any hiss or off-putting sound to it. Overall These are a well refined headphone, being on the version 6. They are nice headphones for a large audience of people. That being said, headphones are a very personal device so go and check them out in store.

These headphones are like no other! When I unboxed these, I was first impressed by the durable feal, design and light weight of the headphones. Next it was easy to charge with the USB-C connection. Once charged I paired with my phone, and they immediately connected with the Sound Connect app that I already had installed from previous headphones. The app walked me through the shortcuts the headphones offer by tapping and sliding your finger along the outside of the right earpiece to pause, change the volume and change the song. The app also has many controls from ambient sound control, listening mode, equalizer, adaptive sound control, simultaneous device connect and probably my favorite feature, speak to chat. Turn the speak to chat feature on and all you must do while jamming is say, "hello" and the headphones switch to ambient mode so you can hear and have a conversation with someone. Once you stop talking for 15 seconds, you automatically go back to Noise Canceling where you can't hear a thing but your music. That is so convenient! The app will also show battery life, device settings and give you another set of controls for pause, volume, etc. the same controls you have with tapping and sliding your finger on the right earpiece that I described earlier. Once set up, start listening with great sound that can be fine-tuned to your liking with the equalizer pre-sets and custom settings. Add in the comfort of wearing these headphones for up to 30 hours with one charge, the option to connect with a cord instead of Bluetooth, and a case to store the headphones and wires and there is not much more you can ask for in a high-end noise canceling headphone. These are top of the line and worth a look!

Really solid overall audio package here. Active Noise cancelling through its extensive array of microphones makes for a great listening experience even in louder crowded environments. I took these to my collage and used them to isolate myself from the constant barrage of conversations surrounding me in one of the study spaces we have. Turning on the ANC was a near immediate separation from the environment. I could still faintly hear those closer to me, but the moment I started even quiet music All I could hear was what I intended to hear. Unlike Earbuds with ACN, there was zero feeling of pressure that often comes with noise canceling, it just suddenly made everything fade away. Absolutely amazing performance in that regard. As for as overall sound quality for music, I'm sure a more of an audiophile might pickup some specific area of weakness or strength, but to me they sound pretty good. I don't feel like any particular thing was overpowering in the default sound profile. My music felt clean and clear. I'm not one to pump up the base or anything intentionally, and I appreciate the fact that Sony didn't choose to go overboard with base boost on these out of the box. USB C charging, and the option to use an aux wire and skip the Bluetooth connection is great. If I had any complaint, it's that they aren't available in a wider selection of colors.

While using my phone this headphones keep pausing the music and resuming on its own in about 1/2 second multiple times, just enough to ruin my music listening experience. For a $500 headphones, it's not worthit as the same issue does not occur with other headphones even from the same brand. I looked for solutions online and none of then worked, making me think that this might be a hardware related issue. I do not recommend these.

      Hi, RaphaelG,

We are sorry to hear the inconveniences you are having with your unit. We'd be more than glad to help you. We will be leaving some troubleshooting steps below that you might want to try:

      1. Disable "Speak-to-Chat": This feature may cause accidental pauses. Make sure it's completely off in the Sony | Headphones Connect app.

      2. Disable "Pause when headphones are removed" (Wearing Detection): This sensor can sometimes be overly sensitive leading to unintended pauses. Turn it off in the app.

      3. Update Firmware: Ensure your WH-1000XM6 headphones have the absolute latest firmware. Connect them to your phone via Bluetooth, open the Sony | Headphones Connect app, and check for updates.

      4. Wearing Detection Interference: Ensure there's nothing obstructing the wearing detection sensors (e.g., hair, a hat, or a scarf). Also, make sure your ears are properly seated within the earcups for optimal detection.
