Buy WH-1000XM5, WH-1000XM6 is terrible

My WH-1000XM5 started to make a high pitch noise. I had the option to replace it with a new WH-1000XM5 or pay the difference and upgrade to WH-1000XM6. I upgraded. The sound in WH-1000XM6 is terrible compared to WH-1000XM5. Also, the microphone is terrible, sounds like a toy mic. Plus, the headphone continually shuts down without me doing anything. Could I have a defective headphone?

The issues you described—poor sound quality, a "toy-like" microphone, and random shutdowns—are certainly not typical of this model, which features an upgraded QN3 processor and 12-microphone system for improved clarity. We recommend disabling the "Automatic Power Off" setting in the Sony Sound Connect app to address the shutdowns and performing a factory reset (holding the power and noise-canceling buttons for 10 seconds) to resolve potential software glitches affecting the audio; however, if the issues persist, it is very likely you have a defective unit and we encourage you to utilize your warranty for a replacement. Sounds are great, mic is not good.

I have been on calls with people from my iPhone and I have had complaints about not hearing me at all and when I have connected it to my computer, people complained that I sound far away. Also it seems to cut off while on the phone it would switch over to the iPhone speaker on its own, without me doing anything. And I don’t what it is about those headphones, but they drain my iPhone battery so bad! I only listen to music on it mainly and by noon it’s already down to 65% after starting the morning around 9:30am at 100%. So despite the new mic system, I can’t recommend these.

After about an hour the oressure on my ears becomes unbearable. I don't know who they designed these for, but clearly they didn't have human adult heads in mind. People say they loosen up over time but I've been using them daily for months and they still put way too much pressure on my ears. Way overpriced for such a lack of ergonomics.

wh-1000xm4 still the best for DRUMMERS

Too boomy on the lows when hitting the floor tom and other low end instruments. It looks like I'll be using my trusty old wh-1000xm4's for the next 3 years. If it wasn't $450 I might keep them around for other purposes, but the price alone is ridiculous, as is all the other brands.
