Thank you for purchasing theWH-CH710N noise canceling headphones. If you use the noise canceling function, you can enjoy music without being disturbed by ambient noise. This function provides the most effective noise canceling mode by immediately analyzing ambient sound components. The effect of noise canceling may not be pronounced in a very quiet environment, or some noise may be heard. When you are wearing the headset, depending on how you wear the headset, the effect of noise canceling may vary or a beeping sound (feedback) may be heard. In this case, take off the headset and put it on again. The noise canceling function is effective in low frequency ranges such as airplanes, trains, offices, near air-conditioning, and is not as effective for higher frequencies, such as human voices. Although noise is reduced, it is not completely canceled.

They are "over the ear" but VERY shallow in my experience. My ears do not poke out and have not had problems with headphones before. They make my ears very sore because my ears actually press against something hard inside the speaker portion. Had to pass them along.
