Tons of Bass, Not Much Else
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I was pretty disappointed in the sound quality on these. If you're a bass head and are looking for a ton of low end and something inexpensive, these may be right up your alley. The bass, unfortunately, overpowers everything else and you end up with mushy sound. I tried to burn them in for about eight hours, but found pretty much the same result. They are lightweight and the clamping force isn't too bad at all. Construction is all plastic, but they do feel like they would hold up pretty well thrown into a bag. The earcups fold flat, but the phones don't fold up. One nice feature is the ability to set one button to trigger Siri, Alexa, or Google voice assistants. I think these would be best suited to someone into EDM, and someone looking for something good enough without spending a lot of money.

Love the Sound!
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I haven’t used over the ear headphones much so I wasn’t sure what to expect. Connecting these via Bluetooth was incredibly easy and the connection was solid. I listened to various types of music streaming online and was very impressed with the sound. They were also comfortable to wear. I would definitely recommend these.

Nice sound, good bass
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I've made these the primary wireless laptop headphones. They are a bit bulky to wear out of the house (i.e. you can wear them on a treadmill or that kind of thing, though I prefer earbuds for that due to stability in motion), but the sound is very good, and wireless to boot.

Sony quality, above averagesound.
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I’ve always liked Sony products, I’ve owned many over the years. They were always top notch and there was not much competition. Not the case anymore, there is tons of competition now on every electronic product out there. The same holds true for headphones and Sony XB700 are middle of pack in that respect. The XB700 are a fairly minimalistic pair of wireless headphones, you definitely will not mistake it for an expensive pair of headphones. There is no flashy metallics, design flair or LED’s – just all black and plastic. Some people complain about the nearly all plastic design and I do not get it. In today’s day and age, plastic is super strong and very light weight - exactly what you want in a headset. I found the Sony XB700 to be very lightweight and comfortable (for the most part – more on that later.) Let’s look at the key categories for the Sony XB700 – Form and Fit – as discussed, they are all plastic, so they are very lightweight. The size adjustment is very simple and easy to do. The foam on the ear cups is soft and comfortable. That brings me to the only negative in this category, the ear cups themselves. These headphones are supra-aural headphones which means they rest on the ear, but does not completely envelope over the ear ( that is called circumaural.) I find the sound to be just better when the headset completely covers over the ears. It may be a matter of preference, but I think it blocks out extraneous sound and is just more comfortable. Sound - This one was a mixed bag for me. Without making any adjustments, I found the sound quality to be average with being too heavy on the bass. However, I tweaked the sound in Sony app and was able to get a better sound quality. While still not the best, it was more than acceptable for a $130 headphone. One thing I do find is that Sony seems to sacrifice the mid tones and clarity for heavy bass. For songs that are vocal centric or acoustic, it tends to muddy the sound. Features - Bluetooth, NFC, USB-C, 3.5 mm connection etc blah, blah - the same as everyone else. What it does have is the ability to work with Google Assistant or Amazon Alexa. I tried the Google Assistant ( it somehow paired itself with my phone and set most of it up.) I can say the Google Assistant functionality worked flawlessly. Battery life – you just can’t kill the battery. Usually when I see something like the 30 hour battery life listed by Sony , I see it as something that would only happen under ideal conditions. Not so here, I left the headset running all night with sound playing and used the XB700 for over a week and it still had a charge. Impressive. So in summary, the all important question of should you buy the XB700? Maybe. At the $130 price point ( or less if you wait for a sale, ) the answer is yes. The sound is above average and the quality seems to be there. If you are looking for crisp highs and lows and the best sound you can get, no you will not be happy with the XB700. But , of course, you could spend nearly 3 times the price for that. For most people, this will be a great buy and they will enjoy the sound.

|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This review is about a new pair of headphones in Sony's XB line of audio products, the WH-XB700 headphones, which for those keeping track are the second lowest model in the XB line, a pair of on-ear headphones currently selling at $129. I recently reviewed the WH-1000X M3 noise cancelling headphones from Sony, and was absolutely floored by them--they are super light, they compete with the Bose QC35 II headphones, and are heralded by some as superior to the Bose headphones which had previously held the title of "King of Noise Canceling Headphones." The 1000X M3 phones are my current favorite pair of headphones, and I'll admit it's not entirely fair to compare the two, but I soon found out that I was set up to be severely disappointed in these headphones. In the interest of full disclosure--I KNOW--I shouldn’t expect the world of these $129 headphones. But, when the 1000X M3 phones arrived, I was surprised at how good they were, considering the reigning champion Bose QC35 II headphones are such a good product. I'm not one of those people, but I'll also admit that even at $129, I was expecting a little flash from these. Also, in March of 2018--a little more than a year ago--I reviewed the Sony SRS-XB31, a small bluetooth speaker also in the XB line, and was super impressed at the sound quality for the $150 price tag…in fact, it was the only speaker of that size that could compete with my all-time favorite bluetooth speaker (by none other than Bose). Yet I digress… What I'm trying to say is, I had a lot of expectations that these headphones were going to be really good. In fact, one of my favorite things about the XB series headphones is how chunky, and shiny, and not at all inconspicuous they are. I've always liked the design of the XB headphones, and it would appear that the lower-cost XB headphones don't get the same treatment. In any case, when they showed up in the mail, I was really excited. The unboxing experience is about as good as you'd expect for mid-range headphones, maybe even a little bit on the cheap side…but when you open everything up, the XB700's are front and center and nicely presented, and that first look… THEY. LOOK. CHEAP. Plasticky, awful, nothing compelling about the design, at all. I think I understand the design on these, to some degree; a lot of headphone manufacturers are releasing "vanilla-styled" headphones with muted, matte colors, and in many cases (as with the 1000X M3's), it's a nice, clean, minimalistic look. But on the XB700 headphones, the plastic surface appears almost as it is powder-coated, which looks weird and doesn't fit in with the design language of even mid-range, $100-$200 headphones that you can buy from anywhere right now. But wait folks, there's more--I hadn't even picked them up yet. Once you get them in your hands, the ear cups and the crown padding are both super soft and supple, and that's about the end of the positives. I'll admit, they are light, but because they already look very low quality, a less-weighty headphone doesn't help that overall impression. Then you put them on, and if you're like me, you remember why you don’t like on-ear headphones (admittedly, the noise isolation for these seemed overall pretty good, but there was still wear fatigue not long into a listening session). This is not to nay say on-ear headphones in general; I have a pair of Master & Dynamic headphones that are anything but comfortable, but because they sound so good, and I can deal with shorter listening sessions to experience that great sound, sometimes uncomfortable headphones can be redeemed by their performance (although I think you've already figured out that's NOT where this review is heading). And sound is, after all, why you're buying these. In my opinion, the bass performance on any Sony XB product should be second-to-none at its price range, and in the case of the XB700s, the bass feel certainly delivers…dance, R&B, hip hop, EDM--those genres will be decently utilized on headphones like these. So the bass is good, but everything else from a sound perspective is middle-of-the-road at best. The mids are fine, the volume is there (they get extremely loud, but with a lot of audio bleed), but the highs are not good at all--super blatty, uncomfortable and almost painful in some ways. So they're fine as budget (is $129 budget now??), bass-heavy headphones, but they are far from an all-around pair of headphones you should have in your arsenal. One redeeming quality, perhaps, is the Sony companion headphones app which carries across from any of their other wireless products. The app itself is good, but because these headphones don't have as much spunk as some of the other Sony headphones and speakers I've tested, the options within that app are more limited, as the feature set is not as large--and there is no way to adjust the EQ aside from increasing bass, or using the canned sound profiles that the app provides that I otherwise don't find useful, exciting or good. So as a recap: They are headphones. They are plastic. Their design is underwhelming. The sound profile doesn't handle mids and highs well at all. I really wanted to like these when I knew they were coming, but clearly that didn't happen…and at $129, the price is a bit high for the subpar overall experience. Pass on these.

Great sound quality
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. These headphones are phenomenal. Not only are they wireless, but they cancel out all outside noise, or maybe because I have the volume turned all the way up and you can't hear someone scream that's right in front you. Either way the sound quality even with maximum volume is great. I can't say enough good things about these headphones.

Sony Headphones Connect app makes them great
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The Sony - XB700 Over-the-Ear Wireless Headphones - Black charged fully before the stated four hours. It turns on and off by pressing the on button for two seconds. I connected my phone by pressing the power button for seven seconds and tapping WH-XB700 on my phone’s screen. The sound was average until I downloaded the Sony Headphones Connect app. With the app, I was able to manipulate the bass intensity, change the position control of the sound and change the surround setting to concert hall, arena, club, or outdoor stage. The sound is pure and clear and through the app I was able to fix the sound perfectly to my liking. They can also be connected with an included dual phone plug cord. Calls can be received and disconnected by pressing the pause button. I can navigate within my music list by pressing the pause button two or three times to go forward or backwards respectively. The ear pads are extremely comfortable with a thick soft cushion material. The Sony - XB700 Over-the-Ear Wireless Headphones - Black is a great headphone set!

Easy and simple
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I'm more of a well-relaxed person. This by far is the best headphone I've used in my life. Before buying this, I was stuck with knock-off airpods called Tzumi Soundmates. The thing about those is that I'd often lose one pair or the other, which can be very hard to find. But I'm glad I switched to this easy and simple-to-use wireless headphone. Usage: Bluetooth pairing is very easy. All it takes is a long hold on the power-button. My phone, the OnePlus 7 Pro, has a very fast bluetooth connection and I was satisfied on how quickly it read the bluetooth's IP. The app I installed for the headphones gave me a very surreal experience with the sound with different settings. Connecting to my Windows laptop was a breeze, even with and without the cord it came with. It would sometimes give out so I would have to reconnect the headphones with the headphone cord but either way it was seamless. Even though the headphones aren’t exactly ‘noise cancelling,' I wasn't able to hear my parents talk to me even though I asked them to test out if I could hear them or not. I found it really easy to concentrate when I'm writing my stories through the modifiable sound system in the app. I listen mostly to christian music, modern-pop music, and japanese music -- it gave me a very surreal sound experience. Observations: When you're out in the sun or not, it gets tiring a bit. Taking them off, I find a small amount of sweat around my ears, but hey, its just the pressure you're putting on your ears, so that's expected when you take them off. If there was a better way to reduce pressure, this wouldn't be a problem. Even though the headphones came with a very short Type-C USB, it made me a pain to have to charge them so I got a longer one from my other devices that use Type-C I use Discord very often, in fact, I used my headphones the first time in a discord call. The call system through bluetooth made it very obnoxious to me, though it was a good thing. I'm a college student and using this made my life a bit more easier to navigate around without having any outside interruptions. Upon buying this, I really think a headphone case should come with it. I had to buy it separately. Google Assistant: I don't often use 'OK Google' or the assistant function that much but what I can say is that it made it confusing to use since I have the Google Assistant enabled on my phone. Saying "Hey Google" while pressing the button triggers my phone's response so I dialed back on using the Assistant button on the headphone. Overall: Among these, I really love this headphone. I got it for a $100 and it was worth the money since I had the exact amount for it. Well done headphones :)

A good quality and great sounding headphones
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I picked up the Sony WH-XB700 headphones on the day after Christmas to take advantage of a great sale at my local Best Buy. The staff at my local store was very knowledgeable about this product. These headphones can work with Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant, which makes it easy to access the music on your smartphone or smart watch. I've worn these headphones at my local gym and on my local walking trails. At my gym, the noise cancelling technology seems to work nicely. Now, it won't block out 100% of all exterior noises, but it does a good job at minimizing most noises. They seem to fit very nicely, and the sound quality is some of the best that I have observed with bluetooth headphones.

Good sound, poor quality
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. While the sound quality is good, the earpads the headset came with were far too short. This caused the drivers to press on my ears which is very uncomfortable. Additionally, after only two months of use, the left ear now outputs less sound than the right. Certainly not worth the money.
