I am overall happy with the sound. Gray color isn't my favorite, but not that big of a deal. Connectivity was easy to my iPhone. Sony app can customize a lot of different environments. Battery life has been very good so far as well. Not quite a Bose set, but for the money, a very good value. Comfortable too!

They stopped charging after the warranty expired. Very disappointed for such an expensive product. We were very careful with the headphones so are extremely disappointed that they were not durable.

The sound was ok, not as great as the upgraded model. Both models have touch controls and they are too easy to accidentally activate or change song when trying to change volume. My search for good headphones without touch control starts I guess.

These headphones are amazing. I loved my old headphones, but didn't realize what I was missing. My absolute favorite feature is that it only takes about 10 minutes of charging to get an hour of use out of these. That means if I have forgotten to charge them, I can charge them on the rive to the gym. That said, the battery is supposed to last 30 hours on a full charge. While I haven't gone that long without recharging, they definitely lasted more than 20 hours over several days. The reason I really love these so much though, is that you can quickly switch from noise cancelling music mode, to conversation mode, where the music volume is turned down, and the noise cancelling features are deactivated. This is great if you are working out and someone tries to speak with you. You don't have to take the headphones off or anything.

Excellent headphones. Almost 3 years later, and it's still going strong. I use these daily, multiple times a day for probably 5-8 hours a day and they have been amazing. No issues at all! The battery lasts for about 1 day to 2 days, but that's also because I really crank up the volume and I use it all day. I generally charge it once every 2 days depending on the usage, but I have no complaints about that. It also successfully blocks out about 90% of noise. I can get through meetings with no issues. The only issue I have is, if you're going to talk on the phone with these, it sometimes sounds like your voice is muffled to the other person, so I avoid using these for calls. Otherwise, fantastic headphones

Noise cancelling? Not even remotely. Sony has several models of which many seem to have no difference and probably don’t. The design is ok. The app features are gimmicky and feel like fluff. Nothing innovative here.

      Hi Derplederp,

Thank you for the feedback on your experience with your WH-XB900N. We're sorry to hear that you are experiencing issues with your XB900N headphones. We appreciate your feedback regarding the noise cancellation of this unit. To ensure optimal performance with noise canceling, please refer to the steps and guidelines below:

      • Make sure that the noise canceling function is turned on.
      • Adjust the earpad position to fit your ears.
      • The noise canceling function is effective in low-frequency ranges such as airplanes, trains, offices, near air-conditioning, and is not as effective for higher frequencies, such as human voices.

You can also change the settings of the noise canceling function and the Ambient Sound Mode with the “Sony Headphones Connect” app.

If the issue still occurs, please make sure that your headphones are running on the latest firmware version. The software includes key features, applications, bug fixes, and feature improvements. I bought these because everywhere on line, and some of the specs here make them seem like they are exactly like the WH-1000's. This is not the case at all. They do sound amazing, when you are listening to music that is mastered in their new 360 codec. Anything else via mobile is okay still not worth the money, as the settings for the headphones are very clunky, and the settings don't always retain. They get worse when you hook them up to anything beyond that. They default to extreme low ends (Yes I get it, they are "Xtra Bass") which clearly the headphones cannot handle as any bit of low notes are accentuated so much they start to clip and distort which then the rest of the sound is muffled out.

Review for Sony - WH-XB900N Wireless Noise Canceling Over-the-Ear Headphones - Black These headphones combine great features with straight-forward controls. They provide excellent audio with additional bass on demand plus top-notch noise cancelling. I loved using them while flying or mowing the lawn! The touch interface lets you adjust the volume, switch songs, answer a call, or pause your music with intuitive taps and swipes on the right headphone. You can temporarily suspend the audio and noise cancelling by cupping your hand over the right earphone in order to have a conversation. The built-in microphones make it easy to make and take phone calls. The Sony app gives you a range of extra features for adjusting audio to your preferences without complicating the controls on the headset itself. It’s the perfect combination of simplicity and ease-of-use coupled with extended features and customization. With 30 hours of battery time, and rapid charging - you can get an hour of play for 10 minutes of charging using the included USB-C cable - these phones last and last!

Sound very similar to the 950’s with better fit and comfort. Added features like the M3’s where you can tune the EQ and the gestures. USB-C is nice. I wish it came with a hard case like the M3’s did. I wanted these for the 950 sound but the M3’s fit and comfort, this is exactly what they are.

Move out of the way Apple Beats!

Recently purchased beats studio 3 wireless headphones as my wired beats studio 2 cracked. I was able to fix it with some crazy glue and black tape. Thinking that the sound quality would be as good if not better than the studio 2 man was I so wrong! That same day I went back to Best Buy to return them feeling disappointed and I wasn’t sure what other headphones could compare to my Studio 2’s in sound quality. Then by chance I tried out the Sony XB900N to my surprise these headphones not only sounded as good as my Studio 2’s but sound quality was even better! Not sure what Apple did or didn’t do to the Beats line of headphones but it’s not what Dr. Dre originally created! In short if you like music that has bass and clear vocals and clear surround sound then get these headphones!

The Sony WH-XB900N headphones are awesome. The sound is crystal clear and the bass is deep and rich. I've noticed others comment that the bass is almost too much but in my opinion that is not the case. I thoroughly enjoy listening to all genres of music and spoken word podcasts and never have I wished the Sony's has less bass. One of my favorite features is being able to hold a hand up to the earpiece and mute the sound. Super convenient. I have only 2 minor complaints. First, it would be nice to be able to adjust the head strap to fit a little tighter. The headphones have never fallen off but I haven't done anything strenuous while wearing them either. And 2, the charging cable is very short, like less than a foot long. Other than that, the Sony WH-XB900N are by far the best pair of headphones I've ever owned.

Sony creates excellent sound quality noise cancelling headphones. Bass is very solid, no distortion at high volume. Noise cancelling is the best. I like the gesture control especially the cupping the right to mute and hear the ambient sound, so no need to take the headphones off. Connection is good, no disconnect even at 30 feet away. Recommended to install the Sony headphones connect app to make full use of all the features. The manual could be better, it only has picture and no word. I spent quite some time to figure out the tap and hold is to activate google assistant. It will not work if you already assign the function to the custom button. Pairing is also very easy and quick. No audio delay when watching video. I am happy with the headphones.

    Bulky wireless headset

TheSony - WH-XB900N wireless over-ear headset. at the time of this review, the product was listed at $249.99. This is a product that was challenging to review. It's a bit bulky compared to let's say the Beats Headsets, however, the battery life is exceptional at approx 30 hours. Sony really does know how to put together a nice Noise canceling headset. The levels are great and if loaded with the app(s) Sony Headphone Connect and Sony Music center you can play with the levels a bit to your liking. The 30-hour battery life depends on the audio or video usage, volume levels and whether you are in Noise Canceling mode. But 30 hours of nonstop music is a bit much for anyone at any given time so I like the idea that if you're on a long flight and have a full battery you can listen to this for as long as needed. I give this 4 stars only because it is a bit bulky however worth the money for quality Noise Canceling headset.
