Good Headphones
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. Was looking for some headphones to replace ones that had started to hurt my ears. The old ones sat on my ears instead of over my ears. It was a toss up between these and the Microsoft Surface Headphones. Those were really nice, but I had to go with my budget, so I got these. In grey. They work good. The sound is great. I didn't really read the instructions, so I couldn't figure out how the noise cancellation part worked. I love that you can put your hand over your ear, and it cuts out the music in your ear, so that you can hear the person talk to you. I have paired them with my Android Phone and I was able to talk to the person with them on. Way Cool!!!! I haven't set up the "Ask Google" yet. Didn't know that existed. This is what happens when you don't read. LOL I love that it tells you the percentage of battery left or charge. However you want to look at it. That's cool too. My only issue with these, is that, I've had them for 3 maybe 4 months and they are starting to loose connectivity. At home and when I'm at the Library or at Barnes & Noble studying. Not sure why. I listen to videos for class and once the video is over, I take a test. Maybe it thinks that because there's no noise/sound that it should shut off. Not sure how that works. It's not annoying to trade up, but it's annoying. I still would recommend them.

Kind of pricey, but really nice headphones.
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I opted for the Best Buy exclusive gray color and they look slick. I'm not overly wild about the all plastic build, but even the top Sony cans, the 1000xm3, are of a similar all plastic build. The price difference in the two models is $100, which is a substantial difference. Biggest differences in the XB900n and 1000xm3 is the latter has better ANC. The XB900n has very solid ANC, but not up to the level of the 1000xm3, which some think has the best ANC of all headphones under $500. The other notable difference is the XB900n has more bass output, hence the "XB" in the model standing for "Xtra Bass." If you like deep bass, the XB900n is the way to go. If you want the best ANC, the 1000xm3 is the way to go. The third biggest difference in the two is the ear cups. The XB900n, being the newer mode, has better comfort due to the really nice pads. They feel more comfortable to me than the 1000xm3. I fully expect the 1000xm4, when it comes out, will have these same improved ear pads of the XB900n. The XB900n, as previously mentioned, have deep and rich bass. Some may not prefer this level of bass, so thankfully there is a Sony app with lots of features and options, one being a user EQ where you can tailor the sound to your preference. For most music, the default bass level is fine for me. These have a rich and full sound and the mids and highs are also good, but the bass is the star of the show. Overall, these are a bit pricey at $250. They have been going on sale for under $200, so I would wait for that price if you want to snag a pair. For me, these were a better option over the 1000xm3 and the $100 price difference, even when both are on sale, made it an easy pick to get the XB900n. My only fear is that they won't last due to the overall build quality. Some past models of Sony headphones have had issues with hinges breaking, so I plan to treat these with kid gloves.

Excellent Sound; Some App Features Don't Work
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The sound and noise cancelling on these headphone are really outstanding but some of the app options and features don't work on my phone or I didn't know what they were for and couldn't find an answer online. The standard ones like tone controls and bass adjustment are just fine but there's some others that just made the app feel too gimmicky. The Alexa feature does not work at all on my phone- said couldn't play music on my device. I have no trouble playing other music apps on it. The Google assistant could play music but when I asked it to stop, Google Assistant said it didn't know how to do that. Also why would you want to be able to answer your phone if you're listening to music on noise cancelling headphones? What's the point then of noise cancelling headphones? If you just want to listen to music in a quiet setting all that is needed are noise cancelling headphones that connect wirelessly without a complicated app with complicated features. I guess if you want to quietly listen to music while still being connected to the outside world and fiddling with myriad app features then these headphones fill the bill.

Great wireless headset for music and movies
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is my first pair of noise cancelling headphones and with all the travel I am currently doing I was excited to see how these would perform. They performed better than I was expecting and when listening to music I was hearing sounds in songs I never heard before. The app that you download to set them up and activate the different features was pretty simple. Their ability to cancel outside noises has worked very well for me on multiple flights over the past few weeks and watching movies with them on the plane has been very enjoyable. One annoying thing was this bell sound every few minutes that kept interrupting my music or movies when they would notice a change in noises around me. I googled and found on a forum that was a common gripe but by playing with the settings within the app I was able to eliminate it. The highs from these are very clear and the bass was actually very surprising when listening to songs with good bass or watching movies with some good deep bass, especially a car movie where the vehicles have a deep throaty sound. I have also had no issues with comfort wearing these multiple hours and the battery life has been outstanding so far. They also come with a nice carrying bag as well as a 3.5 mm cable jack that can allow you to plug into an earphone jack if needed on a plane or on a portable music device. Overall I am very happy with these headphones and look forward to longer flights where I can watch more movies to use these headphones more.

Great Sound
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I had the chance to take a trip with these and have been using them a lot lately. The design is very nice, they are very similar to the WH1000MX3. These add the option for extra bass but they also take a few steps back. The sound is just as good as the mx3's but with the obvious addition of improved bass. The step back comes in the form of the new tactile feel of the headphones, they have a plastic like feel and are grainy to the touch. The mx3 has a much more luxury feel to them. The sturdy carrying case has been knocked down to a flimsy carrying pouch. I wouldn't have as much of an issue with this downgrade if the price point was cheaper than the mx3. The app has great control over the headphones and the custom button allows you to have a pre-set equalizer setting for the playback. The noise cancellation is just as good as ever and it is self adjusting to your activity being performed while in use. I am very happy with the sound but wish the design was on par with the mx3.

Please use the supplied USB Type-C cable and a commercially available USB AC adaptor to connect the headset to an AC outlet. Our headphones utilize super soft, pressure-relieving earpads in foamed urethane to evenly distribute pressure and increase ear pad contact. Sound is GARBAGE when using it on Aux Cord and Off
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Don't get me wrong, the headphones are so amazing with the sound quality, bass, comfortability. But there is one thing, the headset's sound quality is absolute garbage when using them turned off and on an aux cord is plugged into them. The Highs crack and overall sound quality sounds like it is cheap when used like so. If you are specifically only using them for bluetooth and wireless connection, great. But do not buy if you are planning to produce music with them. There is a clear input delay with the headset when on aux and it is turned on which can effect timing on a track and such. Otherwise, it is a great product.

Posted .Hi Malc,
Thank you for choosing and purchasing our Sony WH-XB900N Wireless Noise-Canceling Headphones.
While we are glad to hear that you like the sound quality, bass and comfortability, we're sorry to hear that your having issues with the headphones. We’d love to help you troubleshoot your problem. One of the possible solutions to the issue is by updating the firmware of the headphones (via the Sony Headphones Connect app) for optimum performance. The software update improves the general performance of the unit and includes key features, applications, and bug fixes. Please visit the link below for instructions.
https://www.sony.com/electronics/support/wireless-headphones-bluetooth-headphones/wh-xb900n/downloads
Try the following to resolve your issue:
- Reduce the volume level on the connected Aux device. Some devices might output too strong of a signal with their volume level et high or to the maximum. This can cause poor and distorted audio from the connected headphones.
- Go into the sound settings of the connected device and set any equalization and audio processing settings to "OFF" or "FLAT".
- Make sure the 3.5mm plug is fully and securely inserted to both the device and the headphones.
- The issue could be related to the audio cable. Try a new cable
- Try playing another source on the device. For example, try another music app to see if the issue is with a particular app.
- The issue could be with the connected Aux device. Try another audio device.
- Reboot the connected device. This is typically done by turning off completely and then restarting it.
Resetting and initializing the headphones may help with the troubleshooting.
To reset, press both the POWER button and the CUSTOM button simultaneously while charging. The headset will be reset. If the issue still occurs, after resetting please initialize the headphones.
https://helpguide.sony.net/mdr/whxb900n/v1/en/contents/TP0002050001.html
Turn off the headset while the USB Type-C cable is disconnected and then press and hold the POWER button and the CUSTOM button simultaneously for 7 seconds or more. The indicator (blue) flashes 4 times, and the headset is initialized. This operation resets volume settings, etc. to the factory settings, and deletes all pairing information. In this case, delete the pairing information for the headset from the device and then pair them again.
If the issue still occurs after troubleshooting, please contact us for better assistance.

Posted .Hi JPBA,
Thank you for the feedback on your experience with your WH-XB900N. We're sorry to hear that you are experiencing issues with your XB900N headphones. We appreciate your feedback regarding the constant hiss and noise cancellation of this unit. To ensure optimal performance with noise canceling, please refer to the steps and guidelines below:
• Make sure that the noise canceling function is turned on.
• Adjust the earpad position to fit your ears.
• The noise canceling function is effective in low-frequency ranges such as airplanes, trains, offices, near air-conditioning, and is not as effective for higher frequencies, such as human voices.
For constant hiss, resetting and Initializing the headphones will also help on resolving the issue.
To reset the headphones, please refer to this link here: https://helpguide.sony.net/mdr/whxb900n/v1/en/contents/TP0002050001.html

Best Noise Cancellation
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I've never been a huge fan of over-ear headphones When I obtained these headphones I was apprehensive but curious as to the benefits of them. These headphones are not my favorite in terms of color, but that could easily be looked over for their amazing sound quality and excellent noise cancellation that reaches beyond just the physical elements of the headphones. The app includes a very unique feature which analyzes and determines what action you are taking, and will switch up or down the ambient noise cancellation feature will adjust to whatever setting you to have it too. The music is crisp, clear and everything I have come to expect from higher-end speakers, I would definitely recommend these for anyone who likes their music.
