Great upgrade over last model from Sony
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I owned the last version of Sony Wireless Noise Cancelling headphones and thought they were good, but there was room for improvement. I'm happy to say this version largely fixes the things I didn't like about the last set (with one small exception). One nice change right out of the gate--the headphones have added the ability to rotate the earpieces. Rather than stiff arms all the way around the ear piece rotates where it attaches, and can sit over the ear at very comfortable angles now. I immediately found these to be more comfortable than the previous models. The sound was very good on the last model and is even better in this model, with the noise cancelling improved (an issue I had with the previous model). Some ambient noise still gets through, but it's a very tiny amount and is not as noticeable as on the prior version. The bass is improved as well. Another really cool change is the controls--volume, advancing, rewinding, etc, are all 'touch' controls made by tapping or sliding your finger across the surface of the right ear cover. I was skeptical at first, but it really works and is very easy to get used to. Once you have the motions down it's much more intuitive than trying to use controls on the earpiece itself. The mic for phone calls is surprisingly good--people had no difficulty understanding me. It somehow filters out background noise very well. There is a 3.5mm gold-plated cord included should you ever need to go wired. It's a useable length (unlike the charging cord haha). These use the same app as prior versions (and that Sony wireless speakers use) so I already had the app on my phone. They were roughly 60% charged out of the box, and charged to 100% almost immediately. I wear these an average of 4-6 hours a week (typically while working out) and have not had to recharge them yet--three weeks later. My ONLY issue with these--the charging wire is ridiculously short (see picture). It was almost pointless for Sony to include it, and seems like a slap in the face for a fairly pricey set of headphones--either don't include it at all, or include one long enough to actually be useable... Overall this is a terrific and very comfortable set of headphones, that (most importantly) sound great and cancel noise well.

Thank you for bringing this to our attention. We are sorry to hear you are having connectivity issues with the headphones. For Bluetooth connection issue with your Android smartphone, if you haven't yet, please try following the steps below to isolate and fix the problem.
• Check that the Bluetooth device is turned on and the Bluetooth function is on. Then try to make Bluetooth pairing to the headphones.
• Bring the headset and the Bluetooth device within 1 m (3 feet) from each other.
• The headset automatically enters pairing mode when pairing for the first time after purchasing, initializing, or repairing the headset. To pair a second or subsequent device, press and hold the button of the headset for 7 seconds or more to enter pairing mode.
• Check that the blue indicator repeatedly flashes 2 times in a row. You will hear voice guidance “Bluetooth pairing”.
• When pairing a device once again after initializing or repairing the headset, you may be unable to pair the device if it retains pairing information for the headset (iPhone or other device). In this case, delete the pairing information for the headset from the device and pair them again.

They come jam packed with features, are comfortable, sound great, and the noise cancellation is excellent. The headphones are soft and lightweight, so they really don't get uncomfortable when wearing for long periods of time. The noise cancelling works very well, once it's on, most noises are either eliminated or dramatically reduced. I was still able to hear voices and some music, but they were much quieter, softer, and harder to hear. Things like the drone from my air conditioner completely disappeared. If you cover the right ear phone with your hand, it will temporarily disable the NC and lower the volume so you can temporarily hear things around you. Remove your hand and it goes back to normal. The headphones also have the option (through the app) to automatically detect what kind of environment you're in and adjust NC accordingly. So if it thinks you're on an airplane or bus (or similar), it will max out the NC, but if you are walking down the sidewalk, it will lower the effect of the Noise Cancelling so you can hear things going on around you (such as traffic). The app also lets you disable this feature, and you can manually set the level of NC. These headphones are very bassy. So much so, I actually turned down the bass setting to lighten up the bass a bit. I even tried messing around with the EQ because on some bass-heavy songs, some of the deep notes sounded a bit distorted. But, even with that, everything else sounds great. However, if you do change the EQ or bass settings, you cannot use the high quality LDAC audio encoder, so you may lose some audio quality. You do have the option of plugging these in with a regular 3.5mm headphone cable (provided), which is handy. But the headphones sound dramatically different when completely off, so you may find yourself going that route if that's your only option, such as dead battery. And speaking of battery... I have yet to need to charge it, so I can only say it is very good so far :) Other notes: Comes with USB-A to USB-C charging cable (though very short), and a nice carry pouch to keep them in (they fold up and fit nicely in), which is also a nice addition.

These headphones truly "bump" if you're a bass lover like me. The noise canceling is solid as well. The "headphones" app makes these things really shine. I went buck wild on Black Friday and so far this is the purchase I am satisfied with the most. Just hoping they last! I take really good care of all my possessions. I freed myself from the evil clutches of Apple products not long ago and experiencing quality electronics again is so gratifying. Take a hike Apple! Sony, Samsung, LG, etc. is the way I'm going.
