My need was a bit specific, but I feel the reasons I chose these are broadly based. The Bose quietcomfort's did not allow noise reduction while plugged into a cord. That killed that set. They had good sound, but I mean c'mon. The Beats were just plain uncomfortable on the top of my head. No padding...and were not recommended by a few folks I talked to. JBL, meh, ok. These Sony 720N are light, comfy, ANR when plugged in, and sound great. My one big complaint, is the battery life. Sometimes it seems to last pretty good, and other times, it's only mere hours (5 or 6) before it's down. I don't understand what's happening, but the life is no where near what's rated. I only use them for one thing, and that's plugged into a drum module. Not sure if that has an impact or not, but having ANR is critical for that. I wish they would add a larger battery, at the expense of more weight, but I also wanted a headset that I could use if traveling, and like the lightweight for that. I haven't tried the battery life with just listening to music/videos without being plugged in, but I'm betting it's way better. At 99 bucks they are going to be hard to beat!

We also apologize about the issue with your WH-CH720N. If the effect of noise canceling is not sufficient, try to adjust the headset into a comfortable position. Check that the Adaptive Sound Control is turned off. When the Adaptive Sound Control is turned on, the noise canceling function may become insufficient. Also, the noise canceling function is effective in low frequency ranges such as airplanes, trains, offices, near air-conditioning, and is not as effective for higher frequencies, such as human voices.

I play my desktop right next to a window unit, and with the noise cancelling on I can barely hear the air conditioner/never hear it. The bluetooth connects immediately, and overall they're a great price for what they are. Sony is the company you want to go with when it comes to noise cancelling in headphones.

Comfortable and covers the bases in airline travel

The charge life is good at 35 hours and while it may not rank number 1 in all categories it ranks #1 in its light weight and comfort to wear. I fly a lot and you get a mixed bag on audio options depending on aircraft. This headset comes with an audio jack, Bluetooth and USB so it covers everything I’ve seen so far.

The set fits well on my head and are comfortable to wear for extended periods. Noise cancellation works well, but upsets my wife sometimes when she tries to talk to me while listening to misic. Frequency response is not as dynamic as more expensive headphones, but it sounds good to me. You can plug the phones directly into your source, which will provide a little better range in the lower frequencies. Sound is crisp and clear so no disappointment there. I don't use the headsets for phone conversations and the speaker on the headset tends to pick up background noises if you are in a noisy environment. The headsets feel wellmade and sturdy. I consider the WH-CH720Ns in the best bang for the buck category snd love the long battery life. Only real issue is that I can not sync with bluetooth on my Samsung Q-90 series Neo QLED smart TV. This may be more of a Samsung issue rathet than Sony's. Several have had issues from the posts I read with some of the Sony headsets. Just be aware if you want to listen to the sound on your smart TV.
