Review for: Sony - WHCH720N Wireless Noise Canceling Headphones - Black These noise canceling headphones are a pleasure to wear. They are comfortable and lightweight with a nice seal to keep out the world - if you want to. That is, the noise canceling feature works extremely well, but also has an “ambiant sound” setting that allows you to hear what’s going on around you. Great for commuting, this feature lets you catch the train announcements and keeps you aware of your surroundings while walking. The controls are simple to use, with a single power button on the left side and noise control and volume and play/stop on the right. If you download the Sony app (and you should!) you get more precise controls, like an equalizer that you can tailor to your listening preferences, or a slate of equalizer settings for different types of music or voice. You can even even power down the headphones using the app. The headphones allow the use of multiple voice services, including Siri, Alexa, Hey Google, and others. Taking a phone call is easy and works well with the “beam forming mic” that picks up sounds coming from your mouth instead of your entire environment. Remarkably, the headset is rated to last 35 hours on a charge. I haven’t played them that long yet, but after many hours of use, the voice prompt (accessed by touching the power button while on) stills says “battery fully charged!” Quick charging gives you an hour of use after only three minutes! How’s the sound? Really nice! Crisp treble and voice with excellent bass response not possible with other kinds of headsets like earbuds.

Sound quality is excellent whether the noise canceling is on or off. I tested these out in a hotel room, sitting at the desk next to the AC, and the noise canceling completely eliminated the surrounding noise. I assume performance on a plane is similar. One detail I am happy about is that using noise canceling is comfortable regardless of the setting. I own a pair of headphones from a competitor, and they create uncomfortable pressure on my ears when not flying in a plane. I do not have discomfort with these. Another nice perk is these are extremely comfortable to wear for long periods of time, and the battery life is massive! I have been wearing them for a few hours per night for the past few days and have only dropped the battery by about 10% (with noise canceling turned off for most of that time). The app on the phone has some nice features, including adjusting the Equalizer, adding a bass boost, adding more devices, and updating the software in the headphones. Sadly, there are a few glitches that I am hoping another software update will fix. The headphones are randomly disconnecting from time to time. Sometimes they maintain the connection for hours at a time, and on a few occasions, they dropped the connection multiple times in an hour, as I was sitting at my computer, listening to music. While they can be simultaneously connected to two devices at once, it is not as seamless as I hoped. If I am listening to music on my computer and I get a text or phone call, I do not always hear the alerts in the headphones. It appears that the headphones play whichever device starts playing first and do not always permit interruptions, even when I really wish I had received them. If I stop the audio from one device, the headphones will then allow audio from the other device. In a perfect world, I wish they allowed both simultaneously, but that is probably a big challenge and not always desired. When using them as a headset for phone calls, my friends report excellent sound quality coming from the microphone. There are two cons I am really not happy about. First is that there is no case included. I am terrified to travel with these without a case because I am afraid they will break in my carry-on bag. I have cheaper headphones that come with a case, and if cost is an issue, I would rather pay more and have the case included. Thankfully, cases are being made for these, so I have one on the way. The second major con is the signal range. I listen to music on my computer nonstop while working at home. My apartment is small enough that I can usually wander to any location with Bluetooth headphones and still have signal. The range on these for me is only about 20 feet, line of sight, which is much less than my other headphones. If the signal is weak, these headphones immediately disconnect and will not reconnect until I manually tell my computer to do so. My other headphones have no problem until I am a good 30+ feet away, with multiple walls in between. They also reconnect automatically if the signal is dropped. This might be something they can change in the software as well, so fingers are crossed. Obviously, this is not an issue if people only use these connected to their portable devices or they never have much distance between the headphones and the device. As I said in the beginning, the sound quality is excellent. As an adult, I am really happy with the performance. I get plenty of bass, but I also hear crisp highs without a problem. I have listened to a variety of music genres, and I am satisfied. Based on that, I would recommend these to a friend as long as they do not need a long range ie wearing them while cleaning the house. I remain hopeful that the other problems will be fixed with a software update. Because they have not been fixed yet, I only gave four stars.

The Sony 720N offers superb sound quality with amazing comfort at a price that wont break the bank. The ANC features allow you to drain out unwanted background noise and submerse yourself with a nice Ebook, Podcast, or song. The Sony wireless headphones offer everything you would expect to get from a wireless set up. Easy connectivity can be made through either the app or your techs bluetooth setting. The earcups are extremely comfortable and combined with the long battery life will help keep you in the mix for as long as possible. Speaking of which this headset offers about 48 hours of playlife with ANC off and Claims 35 hours with ANC on. The headphones offer quick charge time capablities, and while i didn't try out all different times what i can say is that on a battery with only 10% life left i charged the headset for 10 minutes and got 50% life back which would equate to roughly 40% in 10 minutes. The frame has a very durable design and flexes with such easy that not once was there any cracking or creaking noises which should help to give you more structural longevity. The built in mic means you can take phone calls or be a part of voice chat without having to grab your phone. Voice quality is very good and while the headset does do a decent job filtering out background noise you need not worry about back ground noise drowning out your voice unless its wind noise. Noise canceling on the Sony WHCH720N is probably some of the best out there. Noise pollution does not completely go away however it becomes so distant that once sound is played through your headset its as if it completely vanishes. Speaking of which sound quality on this headset is phenomal however where it really shines is through the app. The app has so many advance features to enhance your spatial audio or 360 sounds. What i will tell you is that out of the box the sound quality is ok, after downloading the app and adjusting my outputs quality greatly improved. And while some may not pick up on this, but once burn time (or break in) was achieved audio quality improved noticeably. For what this headset offers and the price point in comes in at, this is a easy buy

    Review on headphones

I have spent years fighting to find a decent pair of bluetooth headphones since no phone manufacturer wants to make a decent phone with a jack anymore (which is endlessly stupid, but I digress). I have tried everything form fancy expensive Galaxy Buds to a myriad of budget options, and all have the same problems. Flawed connectivity, noticeably glitchy, slightly reduced sound quality. These finally fix it. The inclusion of an option to use a headphone jack on devices that let you is a great feature. Along with multipoint connect. They fit perfectly around my skinny neck (your mileage may very on that), so travel with them is a breeze. And for the sound quality, these are absolutely the best headphones for your money. I was loathe to go to overears full time because I like being able to take one out to hear my surroundings, and every noise passthrough I used before was sucky. (usually the outside noise obnoxiously trebley). Not with these. I actually go to concerts to listen with my headphones on because it actually makes the concerts sound better than with no headphones. Extremely convincing, near perfect noise passthrough. The app is easy to use and has a great selection of features: from custom EQs, to adjusting the noise pass through, to other various quality of life settings. The 3D adaptive sound feature is great, though a little tricky to set up at first, and noise cancellation is very good, though not the best in the world. The battery life is also almost unbelievable. I use these headphones a lot--sometimes all day--and I still only have to charge them once or twice a week. Multipoint connection is also a very nice plus if, say, I am working at my computer and still want to be able to answer phone calls hands-free.

Thank you for your feedback, WILLIAMS. We're sorry to hear that you are disappointed about not being able to have sound on both your television and your WH-CH720N headphones at the same time.

This is not the experience we aim to deliver. The ability to use both the TV speakers and a Bluetooth device for audio simultaneously is a feature that is dependent on the television's specific capabilities. Many TVs are designed to only transmit audio to a single output at a time. We recommend checking your television's audio settings to see if there is an option to enable multiple audio outputs.

If you are unable to find the setting, we suggest consulting your television's user manual or contacting the manufacturer's support team for more information.

We appreciate you choosing Sony and for sharing your valuable feedback with us.

      Best regards,

Great headphones that my 12 year old keeps stealing from me. Why does she steal them? Its because they are light and comfortable with the noise canceling that she can escape from her family. As for my use, the sound is great and they are comfortable around my ears. There are plenty adjustment points to make them comfortable and therefore can be worn for long stretches without being too tight on the ears. The noise canceling is also great for me as I can't even hear my keyboard strokes as I type this review. As I mentioned the sound is great and the volume can be controlled with the buttons on the left ear. I will say they get very loud though so do be cautious with kids as they definitely can get too loud for them. For connectivity the charging is convenient with a USB C connection and they also have the ability to connect to a device with a cord besides being wireless with Bluetooth. I would also recommend downloading the Sony Headphone app for your phone. In the app you are able to see the amount of battery left, the settings for noise canceling, the equalizer with a scroll of the presets, settings like how long before auto power off and the ability to connect to 2 devices simultaneously. The app will also update the headphones wirelessly with the latest version of the headphone software. Overall, these headphones have great sound and comfort with an app to utilize many features. I would recommend them to anyone looking for wireless or wired noise canceling headphones.

    Good Noise Canceling Headphones

This is my second pair of Sony Wireless Headphones. The audio is very crisp and the headphones themselves are comfortable. I work on computers and phone devices over 40 hours per week so I benefit from the two-way audio for work meetings and the noise canceling setting when I’m editing audio or video. I find the Ambient Noise and Noise Canceling features to be effective! There are moments when I want to be able to listen to my surroundings while having personal audio and I find myself clicking into the Noise Canceling feature when I really want to focus on something or if I’m in a meeting where I want less distractions. The ear pieces are very soft and comfortable. I find the pressure on the ear cups to be just right, even as a glasses wearer, I find these comfortable. The sizing mechanism on these offers a good range. These headphones include an auxiliary cable so I can connect them to my audio interface, a device used to record professional audio, where wireless audio is not an option. The right ear cup has the volume buttons, a play/pause button, and the button to toggle between Ambient Noise and Noise Canceling. This pair makes certain chimes when toggling Bluetooth and AMB/NC buttons. In order to know which button is for volume up or down, the ‘volume up’ button has a tactile bump on it. The power button also activates Bluetooth pairing. The Bluetooth connection was easy and quick with my computer devices, but was more difficult with my Google phone. One of the features of these headphones is the multi-device connection which prompted my phone to ask if I wanted to connect the headphones to any device signed in with my Google account. Accepting this prompt only worked once or twice, most other times it either took upwards of 7 minutes to connect with a lot of troubleshooting, or wouldn’t connect at all. Usually if I want to use headphones on my phone, I need a quick connect and don’t have minutes to establish a connection that should take seconds. Overall, I’m pleased with these headphones for their comfort and Ambient Noise/ Noise Canceling features. I wish they paired easier with my Google phone, but all in all, they work well with most devices and I like the sound I'm getting from the Sony WHCH720N Wireless Headphones.

Whoa these are really good noise canceling headphones! I already have the Sony WH-1000XM4 headphones, which are awesome, but I wanted another, less valuable pair for work use. Not sure why Sony insists on using these password-type model numbers, but okay. These WHCH720N headphones do a great job at a more affordable price point than my fancier model. These headphones don’t fold up or come with a travel case. When I press the power button it makes one sound when it turns on, and a different sound when I push it again to turn them off. These do connect and operate with the Sony Headphone app. You can control the noise cancelation or ambient sound control as well as equalizer function, plus a multitude of other things. Battery life is crazy long at 35 hours per charge. The top of the headset is padded and is extendable. The padded ear cushions are nice and soft. I only have used these on one phone call, but the person on the other end said I sounded good and normal. Usually I make work phone calls with a phone headset, but if I’m doing something where I only have to listen, I’ll use headphones. I feel like I’m yelling when I wear something covering both ears for a phone call, but that’s just me. Included in the box is a 7” long USB-A to USB-C charging cable and an aux cable, plus instructions with a QR code for further information. The packaging is all plastic-free, the packaging designers are doing impressive work too. Overall a great set of headphones at a decent price.

I've had these for over a year and I can tell you that they are cheaply made, the ear driver touches my ear when worn, noise canceling does not work nearly as well as advertised, audio quality is poor, and call quality is poor just to name a few.

      Hi Familyfirst9988,
Thank you for your feedback. We're truly sorry to learn that you're having sound issues with our WH-CH720N headphones.
We're here to help and would be happy to provide some troubleshooting steps to get this resolved:

      1. If using Bluetooth: Disconnect and reconnect. Try pairing with a different device to rule out device-related issues.
If using a wired connection: Confirm the cable is securely plugged in. Rotate the plug slightly and see if the sound returns.

      2. Factory reset the headphones. Find detailed instructions for this procedure here: https://helpguide.sony.net/mdr/2966/v1/en/contents/TP1000783325.html

If the issue continues after following these steps, we suggest contacting our support team at https://us.esupport.sony.com/support/s/support-contact?language=en_US&category=headphones

Thanks for considering Sony products and for bringing this to our attention.
      Sincerely,
      Estefany sony-global
