Sony WHR400 headphones broke after 6 months

The headphones worked fine for 6 months until the left headphone broke where it is attached to the headband with a swivel. The headphones weren't dropped, they just broke. Sony says this isn't covered under the warranty because it is "cosmetic" or "physical" damage. I say it isn't cosmetic damage (the headphones aren't useable now) and physical damage isn't explained in the warranty as something that is excluded.

Worse wireless headphones I've ever had. Difficult to synchronize. Auto tuning has to be done on every startup. Range is terrible. Get up and leave the room and you have to tilt your head a certain way to maintain sound. Spund quality is poor, entirely to much static. Changing channels has no impact on the above issues.

    The Interference is Maddening

    Posted .

As you may have seen in some of my other headphones/headsets/earbuds reviews, I have a small hearing loss in one of my ears. I was looking for a way to listen to the TV without the volume turned up so loud it annoys others. With that goal in mind, I purchased these headphones. When I got home and took everything out of the box, I looked at all the included cords and then looked at the back of my TV to find out that the TV and the base station for the headphones do not have a match component input. Without a doubt, not realizing this ahead of time is 100% my fault. Back to the store we went to look for an adapter (which I'll post my surprising review on it's product page). Once I was back at home, I used the adapter to connect an optical cable from my TV to the adapter. Then I connected one end of the included 3.5mm cord to the adapter and the other end of the cord to the headphones' base station. Sony is nice enough to include a pair of rechargeable AAA batteries for your use. Make sure to let them charge up completely before your first use. Once everything was connected, TV sound output setting adjusted, headphones charged, it was time to give it a go and after owning for months, here are some of my experiences: Comfort: Great - I would wear these for hours on a daily basis and never had any discomfort. The ear pads fit around the ear nicely and each side can be adjusted. Battery Life: Great - I never had any problems with the battery life. As long as you charge them every couple of days and turn them off when not in use, you will not have any problems either. Connection / Interference: Poor - This is was ultimately pushed me into getting a different (but more expensive) set of headphones. These headphones transmit wireless sound via radio frequency. Everyone should anticipate some interference when it comes to radio frequency. Sony anticipated it to the point that they included an Auto Tuning button on the underside of one of the drivers. According to the product data, users should be able to get 150 feet of comfortable listening. If you take away anything from reading my experience of these headphones, let it be this. I set the base station at a location with absolutely nothing in between us. I had any unnecessary electronics put away (just in case that could cause addition interference). Finally, I used my laser tape measure to get the distance of the headphones to the base station. I was sitting 10 ft. 9 1/4 in. away from the base station and getting all kinds of static interference coming through the speakers. Pressing the auto tuning button on the headphones made little to no noticeable difference. I tried changing to one of the other two channels on the base station and putting the base station in all different locations. Some days the static was not too noticeable. Other days the static was so bad that I gave up trying to use the headphones for the night. After so many months of going through this repetitive cycle with the same outcome, I determined it was time to make these headphones a secondary set and purchased a set of headphones that were a little bit more expensive, but when it comes to my experience with these headphones, you get what you pay for.

This wireless headphones does exactly what I expected them to do. I just wanted to use them to watch TV at my desired volume without bothering anyone else. But I also noticed they are great to allow you to listen to your TV shows when there are noises caused by the family and dog around the house without having to raise the volume on your TV speakers. It was super easy to set up and worked immaculately when connected. The sound quality is good and adequate for the money but not the same as listening to a surround system or more expensive sound canceling headphones. These are not sound canceling but are light weight. There is a switch on the headphones that enhances voice signals by isolating other sounds if you like but I always prefer to listen to the complete stereo sound. Since this uses an RF signal and not blue tooth, I can walk all around the house and even to my garage and still be able to pick up the signal. The battery is really good and charging super easy using the charging dock. You can also use regular AAA batteries if you forget to charge the head set so keep some around. So far, I'm happy with the purchase and have encountered no problems at all.

I bought this system for my elderly mom to help her hear the TV at a good volume, without bothering others in the area. The audio clear, with plenty of volume, and the stereo enhances the experience. It's light, comfortable, easy to set up, and very easy for my mom to use. It does have limited range. When I tried it, it began to get noisy when I walked into the garage. However, it works great in my mom's room ) off the family room). She loves it. And it's a Sony. The build quality is great.

Easy set up, great sound. Plugged base unit into my Sony TV and instant peace and quiet in the rest of the room. Wife could finally read without my blasting the tv sound because I couldn’t hear without turning it up sooooo loud it could be heard downstairs over the tv in the living room. Works great. Comfortable over the ear design allows for watching and listening for hours without any sore ear issues. Charge lasts and lasts and auto tuning makes effortless setup.

These Sony earphones get a thumbs up in our home for the following reasons. It was an easy set up, good instructions included/ simple to control volume/ good quality when it comes to hearing the TV. As seniors, we like when there are no issues setting up our product, and it actually works great.

I purchased these headphones to replace older Sony headphones that quit working after 8 years. These are lighter in weight and seem a little less sturdy but the sound quality is very good for the price paid. My spouse has hearing loss so the headphones allow him to watch tv without it being too loud for me or our neighbors. I use the headphones, too. I listen to music while cleaning, moving through the house without losing sound quality or volume. The headphone range is large enough to reach the entire house, garage and into the yard.

Great clarity both spoken & music. Lightweight, comfortable. This was an open box special. I'm so glad I found it! My husband retires early in the evening & now I can stay up and watch TV or listen to music as late as I want to. The last set of wireless headphones I had were RCA and they lasted 5-years before I had to replace them! I'm expecting to get at least that long a life from these Sony headphones. Plus the RCA headphones had batteries to replace in the tower & the headphones! these do not require batteries ... a real plus!!!

I bought my Sony Headphones to use to hear my TV and music due to my hearing impairment. My neighbor in the apartment next to me informed me that I had my TV way to loud. So, it was then that I realized that I needed to keep peace while listening to stereo without any interruptions. This set is perfect, it gives me better sound than my original sound from the TV and it is in stereo. I love it! I can go in any room in my apartment and still hear what is going on in the living room. The hands free, wireless set is something I didn't know I needed but now that I have it, I will not part with it. It sits in a cradle and recharges and is always ready when I need it!

Exactly what it is intended to do. Quality. Adjustable depth to sound, low bass to higher bass. Accurate volume control, with the easy to feel wheel. No fumbling for a control that is hard to find, just by touch. Sound goes through any walls, too, just like it says. Reliable. Right out of the box.

These headphones are both functional and comfortable, offering high quality sound. Easy to use. Easy to Recharge. Easy to store when not in use. Who could ask for more? Oh...how about the price being very reasonable? It is. The only advice we would give is to be certain you have a TV compatible with the installation instructions that come with the headphones. We did not and were not aware of that until we got them home. Luckily, having the Geek Squad Protection Plan it was a simple fix to have Agents Jason & David to come out and get them up and running. Very pleased with this purchase.
