If I want to use the headphones for listening to music then I have to disconnect from the TV and then attach to the output terminals of my receiver.

Using for a hearing impaired person who otherwise doesn’t hear TV, even with hearing aids. It makes life so much easier.

My hearing isn't all that great and I needed a pair of headphones so I could watch TV while others were in the next room sleeping. They're not completely noise cancelling, but pretty close. My daughter watches TV normally at night with me and I wear my headphones and she can still hear the TV.
