I've been looking for the perfect pair of workout headphones, and while these aren't perfect, they are IMO close. They look like thicker black Apple Airpods with cord connecting the two. That's not really a bad thing. The tube shape design makes them easy to grab and the rubber tips have a nice textured feel that hold them in your ear. And they're really light In terms of fit, I think these are great. They come with medium tips and small tips (no large). I made due with the medium tips. At first they don't feel secure, it's a tough feeling to describe, but the never once came out during my 10 mile runs. I think this is in large part due to the lightness of the headphones and the textured tips. They are so light you almost forget your wearing them. The bad part though, the buttons are small and hard to touch by feel. If you're the type that ALWAYS changes songs or volume on the headphones themselves, I might give these pause. The fast forward and rewind button is difficult to locate by touch, the raised indention of the symbols are easy to miss. Luckily, the power button is on the end at the bottom of the "black tube" and you can't miss that. I tend to adjust songs and volume on my phone so this is not an issue to me. In terms of sound quality, in typical Sony fashion they're great. The music is tight and responsive. The bass isn't too overwhelming. You can get more bass if you get a tighter seal in your ear, but I can only accomplish this by holding the ear piece into my ear, which for obvious reasons isn't doable. NOTE this last comment does not affect their fit nor the ability to stay in my ear. I never felt like these are going to fall out. In terms of phone quality, I received one call during a workout and they worked great. As for connection, i have NOT ONCE had the signal break up or skip. I cannot say this for other sport headphones. This is the biggest endorsement of these headphones. The few knocks are typical knocks of other small headphones. They use micro-USB. Most of my devices now use USB-C. Not a deal breaker. They don't have a case. Bose does it right when they include carrying bags for their headphones. Their sport headphones have a nice, small neoprene bag with carbaniner hook that is extremely convenient. These headphones do not. They come with a nifty little piece of plastic that allows you to wrap the cord around the headphones, but this makes them even smaller and easier to lose and I've simply resigned myself to the fact that I will lose this piece of plastic (see the photos). Battery life is good, but there's no battery announcement when turning them on. For example, when you turn any BT Bose headphones on, they announced the battery percentage. This is an overlooked feature that should be required in any high quality headphones. Having said that, I generally charge mine once a week and I have yet to lose power in the middle of a work out. But these minor quirks are absolutely no deal breakers. These are great sounding headphones, that stay in your ear. The battery life is quite good (although only way to check power level is on your phone). They're small and prone to losing, but you can say that for ANY small workout BT headphones. These are a great buy

I was excited to check out the SONY WI-SP500 Wireless In-Ear Headphones, as I have a set of SONY MDR-XB70BT headphones that I love. With the SP500's being a newer product, was hoping for even better performance. My biggest issue with the headphones was getting them to stay in my ear. The two sizes of earpiece didn't work for me, and then the size of the power units coupled with the earpieces caused them to slip out of my ears. I couldn't get a comfortable seat with them to my ear. They have little dimples on them that are supposed to 'grip' your ear, but it didn't work for me. Conversely the SONY XB70BT's are absolutely some of the most comfortable headphones I have ever used in my life. Moving on to the sound, the headphones sound really good (once I pressed them to my ears), just as I would expect them to from SONY. They offer an 8 hour battery life, are splash proof and sweat proof and have NFC and Bluetooth connectivity. Connecting to my iPhone was a breeze, just like it should be, and the little battery monitor icon is a nice touch to keep an eye on their levels. Sound is warm and bassy, again, like you would expect from SONY headphones. With the open-type drivers, you are able to hear sounds around you, so if you are running in the street, you can still hear the vehicles and people around you. Although they are connected wirelessly, they are not truly wireless, as there is a small wire that connects the two earpieces around the back of your neck. Storage is achieved by a little rubber band looking thing that you place the headphones in and then wrap the cord around it. Not crazy about that design, it works, but I think it could be detrimental to the headphones over time as a storage solution, putting undue stress on that neck cord. Overall the sounds is really good, especially at the price point, I just had an issue with them staying in my ears. I would ultimately have to force them in my ear, introducing a pain to my ear canal.

Whether you live an active lifestyle or work around the house these headphones keep you connected no matter what. These may not be advertised as noise cancelling but the eartips are designed in a way that the fit is super secure even when you are on a run. These are neckband style and the loop is pretty comfortable and does not get in the way when you wear a hooded sweatshirt. They were quick to connect to my iphone and stayed connected without any drops throughout the day. The sound quality is very good and when on calls the other party had no complains hearing me even when in noisy places like a market. They easily lasted around 8 hours of usage on a single charge and the battery indications on the phone were fairly accurate. These are an excellent pair of headphones for an active lifestyle.

These headphones have a good battery life, and sound just like other head phones in this price range. My main problem is with the design and the fit of these head phones. They are just too bulky and don't fit well (at least in my ear, I tried both ear cushions). I went for a run with these on and they kept falling off every few seconds. So, to me they don't work as active head phones at all. I use them when I am at work and in that setting they are better as they stay in your ears. Also, their call quality is better than other headphones that I have. The pairing process is quick and NFC setup makes it even quicker. Overall, the design could have been better.

I had a chance to review alot of headphones, and the Sony WI-SP500 falls in the middle of the pack for me. This entry level headphone lacks features of if big brothers (SP600 and SP700) in things like noise-cancelling, true wireless, etc. I must have funny shaped ears - as most of the earpieces I review just don't fit me that great. That's why I've preferred over the head or over the in-ear ones. I will say though that these SP500's have a textured earpiece that do seem to help make them feel a bit more secure than the smooth earpieces seen on other brands. Easy to pair, decent battery length & IPX4 waterproof (protected from splashing water). For your reference, IPX goes from 0-8, zero meaning no protection and 8 being able to be submerged into 3 feet of water. Overall - if you are on a budget and looking for bluetooth headphones for your walks or runs, these will do fine. If you are a more picky, you'll want to shell out for the noise-cancelling SP600 or true wireless SP700s. I only gave a 3 rating as they don't have noise-cancelling (a feature I highly recommend), and still feel a bit loose in my odd-shaped ears.

Though in the package these looked very bulky, after taking them out they were surprisingly light. I really enjoy the quality of the sound and decent bass for earbuds. However, that is really dependent on getting a good fit and to keep that fit they hurt my ears. Compared to other earbuds where the rubber is used to help fill in the space and flex to your ear, these only have rubber bumped texture and a small fin that varies between the only two sizes provided. Essentially the rubber just provides a grip on the large bud which could be difficult for small ears but not enough for larger ears. The wire on the other hand is really light and did not feel to rub like some do. The controls are on the short nub coming from the earbud and are simple, however hard to adjust while jogging as there is no flex like those that have controls on the wire. But, at the same time you don't have something swinging under your ear like those models. On average they lasted over 7 hours of straight Bluetooth streaming and held their charge after sitting a few days powered off. As for their sound quality and battery life these are great for the price range. The size and fitting might not be for everyone though.

I'm confessing an addiction to headphones. I am now the owner of 3 wireless/corded earbuds, 1 completely wireless earbud set and 1 over the ears wireless set. I suspect I'm getting more discerning as I go along. That's good news for Sony and the WI-SP500 headphones- because I can say confidently "They sound great!" I was a little put-off buy the jelly bean shape at first, but I came to like them because the sound is better and the controls are more conveniently located than on other wireless/corded type earbuds. Once I got over that, and realized the ease of use, I focused on the sound. These are nicely balanced. Mids are clear with little problems with "s" words, highs are pretty accurate and lows are not boomy. Bass guitar in particular sounds like an actual guitar. Nice if you listen to music produced with real instruments. I found the fit comfortable and stable when working out and running. The battery lasts as promised. I do wish they had provided a carry case/bag. Otherwise, a really nice sounding product by Sony!

Love the size, form factor, great Sony design but basic audio nothing spectacular. The 2 sets of ear bud rubbers move too much after extended use. Must clean daily to optimize snug fit.I use for work daily and decent 5-6hr battery life for the size.

Pro -Good sound -Good Battery life -Interchangeable bud tips -Can still hear ambient sounds -Thick, tough connecting wire -Water resistant -Handy storage wrap Con -Only two bud tips: medium and small -Small bud tips aren't very small -Awkward controls -Bad voice quality for phone calls -No carry case Overall I like the idea of open driver earbuds because sometimes you need to still hear your surroundings while listening to music ( hearing cars and traffic while running, hearing the baby in the back room, etc ). In this way, the SP500 is pretty good. It still has pretty good sound and bass without requiring your entire ear canal to be filled. Not as good as more expensive models, but certainly adequate. Construction appears pretty good. The connecting wire between the two buds is thicker and much stronger than many similar-styled earphones. Each earbud cannister feels solid and charging is done through a standard micro USB ( no proprietary connector, thankfully ). The battery life is quite good as well, though they do take longer to charge than other wireless earphones I've tried. The buds come with a nifty rubber clip that keeps them together and prevents the connector cable from tangling. It's a nice addition for people to carry them in a pocket, but a small carrying case would have been better. The controls on the right bud are simple enough for power, play, and volume. Previous and next track are done by holding the appropriate volume control button for ~3s. A long beep signals when you've done this. It just feels clunky and slow if you want to skip past a few songs in a row. Dedicated prev/next buttons on the opposite canister, or double-clicking the volume buttons would have been better ( and without the beep ). Better still would be a control unit somewhere on the wire. Having to grab and squeeze the canister hanging off your ear risks unseating it. For me, comfort was lacking. They only comes with two earbud tips, which are essentially large and medium sized. I had trouble getting the smallest one to fit correctly in my left ear. They became uncomfortable after an hour and downright painful after two. For 30 min gym sessions it would be no problem, but any extended use for me is not going to happen. Of course, your mileage may vary, depending on ear size and shape. Overall I like the idea of the SP500, but they don't quite tick all the boxes for me. It's not a bad price for what you get, and if they fit your ears it's a decent deal.

Out of the box these headphones look great and are very easy to set up. With one tap of the NFC logo on the headphones my Pixel phone connects without any issues, another tap quickly disconnects the headphones. I love this technology and use it with most of my portable devices when available. The headphones came with a USB charging cable, one extra set of ear bud covers and a small ring/holder that the headphones slip into so that they don’t bang against each other in your gym bag. I really like the button placement on these headphones, they are easy to access and don’t cause you to push the bud into your ear or bump it out of place when pushing the buttons. The buds themselves are comfortable for the first thirty minutes to an hour but then I find myself trying to readjust them for a more comfortable fit, I’ve tried the smaller size but with those I don’t feel like I get a good enough seal. I’d say this is pretty standard though as I find myself wanting to take most buds out after a hour or more of use. For placing and receiving calls the microphone on the SP-500 offers great clarity and the microphone position is perfect. It’s really nice being able to take a call without having to touch your phone, knowing that the caller can hear you as clearly as you can hear them. I’ve been using these for a few days now, a couple hours each day, and have not had to charge them yet, the battery life seems to live up to it’s advertised eight hours of on time and two hundred hours in standby mode, which is really great! The sound quality of these headphones is really good with adequate bass and nice clarity, they are perfect for my workout. At this price point I would say the sound quality alone makes these well worth the buy. Add in the smart design and thoughtful button placement, the durable build, and the quick connectivity and these headphones might be the best buy on the market right now at this price point. I highly recommend these to anyone who is looking for a new pair of gym headphones as they have quickly become my favorite headphones for working out.

The SONY Wireless Stereo Headset WI-SP500 is nearly all one could hope for in this type of headset, at its cost, and given SONY’s outstanding reputation in personal electronics. There were a couple minor “flaws” which in no way diminished how well this headset performed; but I’ll touch on those later. Here are some of the basics: Hands-free calling Voice-assist function Water resistant Music playback time: 8 hours on full charge Extra set of ear tips included, along with a micro-usb cable for charging The carrying holder, which is also provided, clips on to both earpieces, allowing you to wrap the cord around them so it keeps the cord from getting tangled up. The soft rubbery ear tips fit nicely in the ear, and were comfortable to wear for extended periods of use. I quite liked the placement of the micro-charging port; the protective cap fit snug and secure. Call quality was excellent. I could hear the person I was talking to perfectly and was heard clearly by the caller, with no noticeable lag. Sound quality for listening to music was great. Once again, SONY delivered and lived up to its stellar reputation. The sound coming through this headset was deep, rich, and full. Although the elongated design of this headset is different from any other earbuds I’ve tried, they didn’t feel unwieldy, except when not in use and worn around the neck while resting on my chest. It was then that the slight weight of this headset was evident. Some people might find them somewhat ‘clumsy’ to wear draped about the neck that way, as they flop around a bit because of their shape and weight. While not a deal breaker, it may be a downside for some. The main feature I found lacking (unless I missed something mentioned in the instruction booklet) was a pause feature. There didn’t seem to be one. This is a feature I make quite a bit of use of while working out, doing housework, etc. One of the perks to headsets like this in being wireless, is not having to keep accessing your phone, but instead, to have the controls be on the headset itself. Bottom line: the SONY Wireless Stereo Headset WI-SP500 is a good headset, and definitely a nice addition to SONY’s line of personal electronic products.

Sony is known for top quality electronics and this WI-SP500 is no exception. I have used many bluetooth headsets and normally prefer ones with ear hoops because they stay in my ears, but these have changed my mind. I thought they were a weird shape at first but they are extremely comfortable, do not fall out, are lightweight and allow me to hear some extraneous noise which makes them perfect for my daily walks, where traffic can be an issue. I paired them easily with my Android phone and laptop bluetooth. The sound quality, to me, is excellent with plenty of range including bass. Charging with the included standard USB to micro-USB cable was fast and the charge lasts up to 8 hours. I won't have to charge it daily which is a plus for me. Yes, there are less expensive headphones and more expensive headphones, but having experienced Sony quality first hand, I find these to offer excellent value. I don't know how we tolerated those pesky wired earphones ;)

I've always been a fan of SONY's headphones because of the sound quality and these are no exception. Sound is full and clear with plenty of detail. Battery life is very good and comfort is good. The only problem I have is with them being touted for active peeps. Well, the fit (for me anyway) isn't great for a lot of physical activity. I have to refit them fairly often as they slip down. This could be a problem for runners or crossfit peeps. It could just be my ears but worth mentioning. Overall, very nice and comfortable headphones with great sound.

Out of the box, pairing is simple and fast, with no surprises. Charging is simple, and the non-proprietary charging cable is very much appreciated. The fit could be better, at least for me. The unit comes with two sizes of earbuds, which is probably one too few, as neither really fit in my ear. After an hour or so of wear, they start to become uncomfortable. The microphone is where these shine. With the mic placed similarly to a Bluetooth set intended for conversations, my voice comes across clear, which is a welcome departure from most wireless headsets - and many wired ones. These Sony headphones have solid, but not exceptional, sound, with good bass response. What they’re missing is the clarity of slightly more expensive sets, like the Jaybird X3, although this could be because I could not get a good seal with the earpieces provided. Unlike my other Bluetooth sets, when I answer a call on my iPhone, it automatically defaults away from the headset. This requires an additional step when someone calls, and gives them a brief lag before they can hear me. Build quality appears to be typical of Sony, which is to say quite good. If you normally use the default earpiece on headsets, you may find these more suitable for music and long-term wear than I did. Without a headset that gives a comfortable, solid seal, I find it hard to use them for very long, and Ill probably stick with my Jaybirds for most applications.

Great Workout Headphones for the Money

The SP500’s are a great inexpensive set of sport headphones. If you’re looking for something with solid sound, solid core features, and workout friendly these are the ticket. First of all, in the world of Bluetooth headphones, anything under a bill is generally considered budget. As sad as that is, there are a lot of competitors in this space that are junk, some that are quite good, and some that are excellent. The SP500’s fall into the excellent category in my opinion. They have a great solid build quality that you won’t find in many of the Chinese manufacturers competitors. They are lightweight with a rubberized texture with both a power/function button, and volume buttons. They are also distinguished as a an earbud open-type driver vs in the ear that have gotten so popular. While if you raise the volume level high enough you negate this advantage, the fact that you aren’t completely disconnected to the world around you is a positive in my book. Now if you’re road running, they block out sufficient sound that I’d be worried about not hearing vehicles. But they do offer the advantage of not sealing/unsealing constantly as you impact the road. Sound is quite well balanced, without much distortion until you approach the maximum volume. The sound is refreshingly balanced in a world of bass heavy headphones. I’ve used these in a quiet environment, and enjoyed their highly balanced sound. A quick word on range: In a word Excellent. I’ve had too many sets have issues connecting during my workouts. I’ve not had a single issue with these. The behind the neck design is a nice security blanket during exercise. While truly wireless earbuds may tout their wire-free design, having a wire behind your neck during exercise is convenient way of making sure if a bud falls out, you don’t immediately lose it. I didn’t get a chance to test the NFC. Unfortunately this feature is pretty exclusive to the android world, while iOS keeps it’s NFC unavailable for pairing. Battery life is pretty good too. The rated 8 hours may not be seen if you’re pushing the volume high, but I definitely get several workouts from them at my moderate volume setting. Overall I highly recommend these headphones, especially if you snag them on sale. They are a great set of Bluetooth workout headphones.

These little earphones are amazing! The fundamental purpose of such a device is to allow personal enjoyment of audio from one’s phone, tablet, or computer, and these earphones fulfill that purpose with clear, distortion-free sound. I have no idea how they get such a bass response from such small speakers. There are no clicks, hisses, or other distracting electronic noise. These earphones deliver better sound than others costing twice as much. These earphones are marketed as being “Sports-oriented”. There is water resistance, as well as open drivers, so that you can still hear traffic sounds while running outside. This is an excellent safety feature that I appreciate since my running route includes some city streets. The device is very light, and after a brief period of accommodation, I can forget that I even have it in my ears. The earpieces do a fairly good job of staying in place, but I do find that I must adjust the fit from time to time to keep them from falling out during a run. (My fix for this is to wear a loose-fitting sweat band over them.) Also, if I adjust the volume up or down, I usually have to re-seat the earphone in my right ear. Of course, it is wonderful not having a physical connection with a phone, since there is no wire to get in the way of movement. I had no trouble at all getting the earphones connected to my Pixel 2. The Bluetooth connection can even be made with NFC, which is quick and easy. The battery life is advertised at 8 hours of playback, and I have gotten at least that. Fitting the micro USB charging wire into the little trap door on the end of the right unit is a little tricky at first but becomes second nature. Sending and receiving phone calls is straightforward as well. The quality of the sound that I hear during the call is excellent, but people I have talked to say they hear some distortion on the other end of the call. So in summary: SP500 Pros- - Excellent sound quality - Rugged, water-resistant build quality - Good battery life - Easy to pair with Bluetooth and to use with music and phone calls Cons- - Earpieces require periodic readjustment during strenuous activity I can recommend these earphones highly, and at $80 they are a good value.

The WI-SP500 is the lesser expensive alternative for wireless sport ear buds. These Bluetooth headset is built solid, light weight, and has great wireless connectivity range. So none of the choppy music that you get from the cheap earphones. In addition, the earbuds fits comfortably in my ears while allowing some ambient noise through during a workout or walking on the streets. It pairs easily with your NFC capable phones and the sound quality is excellent. I like the 8 hour battery life as I tend to forget to charge it when it’s in my gym bag. Oh, last but not least, the microphone sound quality is great as at times I have to answer calls to communicate with my clients.
