These are great earphones. Sound is great. These are a second set. The durability is poor. The ear covering fell apart in 18 months making them uncomfortable to use.

Maybe I was doing it wrong?

I have been searching for an ideal wireless/bluetooth headphone solution for my home, since I live in an apartment and generally wake up about 4 hours before my significant other :) I have a Sony STR-DN 1030 Smart A/V Receiver, and it has been awesome so I figured their wireless headphones would complement it well. I was severely disappointed as soon as I opened the box - to see a transmitter the size of a fairly large hardback book. This could be considered my fault, in a lack of proper research before buying. I liked how it was also a charging station, but right away I thought "there is no way the average person has room in their entertainment center setup for this..." They also cannot handle connecting more than 1 set of headphones to the same transmitter. The next disappointment was the signal quality. No matter what I did, there was intolerable static that constantly cut into the audio. I tried several different cables to connect to my receiver, moved it around, but I sit maybe 8 feet from the transmitter without any obstructions or other devices that could cause interference. I even noticed that the amount of static would change depending on how my head was turned.... Long story short - these would be great if the signal transmission was not so easily disrupted, and the transmitter could be made smaller. Maybe I had a bad transmitter? Unfortunately, I had to return it within days because the static started to drive me mildly insane. Thinking I will go with Senheiser RS 160's instead, since they sound better, there is no static, and you can par up to 4 sets of headphones to 1 transmitter - and the transmitter is optional, so each additional pair of headphones is cheaper.

OK but like less than older model

I wanted to replace my older Sony TMR-RF970R phones because the ear cups had broken off (after a couple of years of daily use) at the joints where they joined the headband and were hanging by the internal wires. These new phones hang from a tower with charging contacts rather than use the inductive cradle charging system of the 970. Because of that they don't fit on some shelving, including the one where I had kept the 970. My major disappointment is in the frequency response of the new phones. The lower frequency performance is better than the 970 at (as I perceive) the reduction of high frequency and speech frequency response. I do have hearing loss and I realize this assessment is totally subjective, so you may not have the same opinion. FYI, the specs show the same frequency RANGE. If the issue were my loss at specific frequencies, I would expect both models to sound the same. A more objective and measurable difference from the 970 is range. I get less range with the 985 when roaming my house and much more pop and drop of signal. Having tried the 985 I wish I had tried to find a 970 on the website rather than buying the 985 off the shelf at the store. The only plus is that the 985 and 970 both operate at the same RF, so I've glued and taped the 970 phones and now have two options. I wear the 970 when watching some movies (if others request that the home theater be muted) because of the better speech freq performance and movie whispers are easier to hear. Should have taken advantage of the liberal BB return policy, but I didn't.

My mom would have her TV up so load it was drowning out my TV upstairs. Got her a set of these and she loves them. She wears them while cooking, cleaning, and just about everything else. I love the fact I don't have to hear her soaps all day now.

I bought these headphones to replace my battery operated Sony wireless headphones that had been dropped too many times. I chose this particular model because in the online photo it looked like the smallest set. These things are gigantic. And they make my ears sweat. And the sound drops out frequently. The on/off button and volume button are recessed into the plastic housing making them extremely hard to use. I thought I could get used to these problems but they just bother me more every time I use them. Especially the sweating. I hope this review keeps someone else from making the same mistake.

I bought these headphones and everything went well for about a week.On day 8 i was getting interference and then the headphone went blank.Everytime i tried to charge the headphones the green power light would go out.I would disconnect all connections and reconnect them back. The green power light would go on but shut off when i placed the headphones to charge.Brought back to Best Buy and sales person brought out 2 headphones he had in stock(same model).Plugged in charger/receiver and as soon as we placed headphones to charge green light went out.Salesperson said they must have gotten bad batch.

Hello starman55, thank you for your message. The indicator lights up green when the battery is still serviceable. Lights up red when needs to be charged. When the transmitter’s contact pins meet the headphones’ contact points, the CHG indicator lights up red. If they do not meet, the indicator will not light up. Confirm that the headphones make a “click” sound when you put them on the transmitter. When the headphones are correctly placed on the transmitter, the upper surface of the headphones becomes level with the transmitter. To check the remaining battery charge of the headphones, turn on the headphones, and check the power indicator near the POWER switch. Charge the headphones if the power indicator turns off, dims, flashes, or the sound becomes distorted or noisy. - Oscar. Sonystyle

I've had these headphones for several years now and I should have returned them. All I get is interference and static. If i hold my head a certain directions while using these, it is ok for a minute or two and then back to the static. I've tried resetting, moving the transmitter, turning some electronics off. Nothing seems to help. This will probably be the last Sony product I will ever purchase because of these headphones and the Sony BluRay DVD player I purchased at the same time. It is very inadequate also

My wife bought these for me for my birthday in January because I wanted some wireless headphones for watching movies and being able to hear them without disturbing our sleeping daughter. The transmitter is about eight feet line of sight from my chair when watching movies and there is a static hiss during quiet times in a movie, I get buzzing interference which if I move my head, sometimes goes away, and I've had several times where watching a movie, every 20 minutes or so they would just shut off and I'd have to power cycle the transmitter. They say 150' range, but I can't see that happening. I can see interference and such if you have a wall or three between the transmitter and the headset, but when you're eight feet away, there is no excuse for interference. I have a Bose bluetooth speaker that is crystal clear at far greater ranges. Had my wife not lost the receipt, I would have returned them. And without the receipt, a warranty claim would likely be an issue as well, so I'm pretty much stuck.

I have been very happy with my headphones until now. I bought them in August 2015 and they have stopped working. Everything is the same nothing changed so I don't know why it stop working. I've gone on line and followed the instructions for problems and it hasn't worked. I just would like to know what the problem is.

They work and work well. Took about an hour and a call to tech support, found out my Audio out on my TV was bad . Plugged into cable box red and white and works like a charm. Buy these. If they don't work make sure you call Sony tech support. They will get you up and running. Going back to best buy to get another pair!

I bought these on 4/19 it is now 5/21 and the last couple of days the right speaker is not working. I tried changing the inputs but the lt speaker is the only one working. called Best Buy and they asked if I bought extended warranty or not. They said manufacturer only covers problems that are manufacturing defects. I told them I did not need extended warranty that they were only 1 month old and were physically in perfect shape. So now I am dealing with Sony, Hope to not set foot in a Best buy again if at all possible. Headphones were great until the rt speaker quit. They worked great no static and did not have to face the tv. I could go on about Best Buy though but I won't.
