Sixty dollars for the Sony XB100 Wireless Speaker? This is literally a steal for what you are getting. We have a couple different Bluetooth speakers in the house from a well known audio manufacturer whose name is four letters long and starts with the second letter of the alphabet, and this Sony is easily their equal for both sound quality and for design. And at a fraction of the price. The XB100 is a cylinder slightly bigger around than a soda can, shorter than a soda can, weighs nine and a half ounces, and is covered in a soft-touch rubberized coating. It has a fabric strap (that can be removed) for carrying or hanging, making it handy to take places rather than just using it around the house. The grille for the single, top-firing driver is sturdy, perforated metal. There are four ports around the bottom of the unit through which sound emanates from the passive radiator at the bottom of the unit. Sony claims 16 hours of battery life per charge which should be more than enough for a day away from home. The included charging cord is 12 inches long and consists of a USB-C connector that plugs into the speaker and a USB-A connector that plugs into a charging block (not included) or some other port that will supply power. Sony claims that the XB100 performs to certain industry waterproof and dustproof specifications, although I didn’t experience either of those conditions. Because of that, the charging port is contained behind a small rubber door that is attached to the unit by a seriously stout tether. The control buttons are behind the rubber facade covering the speaker and are marked by raised symbols that are painted white on my dark gray-colored unit. The play/pause button also lets you skip forward to the next track by pressing it twice in quick succession and pressing it three times goes back to the beginning of the track or to the previous track. You can also answer and hang up calls with this button. When I first received the XB100 I felt that is was unusually light in weight (probably to enhance it being portable), but I must say Sony’s engineers worked some real magic when it comes to the sound quality this small speaker puts out. Music presents with both crisp highs and some really good sounding bass response especially considering its size, and I believe the passive radiator on the bottom makes a true difference. While containing a small microphone opening by the controls, the sound quality of speech when on a phone call is superb. I usually use my ear buds for long conversations to help with sound clarity, but this little Sony speaker does just as well, if not better for those calls. For the price point of the XB100, no one should be disappointed with the quality they are receiving. As an added bonus, you can pair a second XB100 with it and have true stereo sound from your media source. And for the price of this unit I may do just that. I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend to a friend to just go ahead and buy two at a time, even without auditioning them…they are that good.

The Sony XB100 is a small speaker that, for its size and price point, produces pretty good sound. I like it. Its audio fills a room, it sounds good while outside, and its small size makes it incredibly portable. I can set the speaker down or hang it from a hook on the wall. It’s light. It’s easy to use. It has great volume. The ability to use the XB100 as a speakerphone or to pair it with another XB100 for stereo sound makes the speaker even more impressive. In short, it’s a solid little gadget. Initial impressions out of the box are pretty good. This is another stylish Sony speaker. The upward firing speaker has a rubberized texture on the outside. It fits like a pop can in my hand. It stands around 3.3 inches tall. The strap is easy to adjust. The Sony XB100 comes with a a USB-C charging cable. However, I should point out that the charging cable is short. It’s only about a foot long. The USB port appears to only be for charging. Don’t expect audio over a wired connection. There also is no 3.5mm AUX input. There is no Wi-Fi connection, companion app, or Alexa / “Hey Google” integration. The Sony XB100 is IP67 rated. IP stands for ingress protection. The first number is a range of 0 to 6 representing how well the item protects against solids. The second number is presented in a range of 0 to 9 and represents how well the item protects against liquids of various volumes and temperature. The XB100 has a rating of 67. As such, it’s rated for up to thirty minutes in water as deep as a meter or 3.3 feet. Sony advertises battery life at around 16 hours. I seemed to get around that mark in my testing. Audio quality is incredibly subjective. I think it sounds very good, especially considering its size and price point. It’s never going to replace my portable party speaker, but it’s not supposed to. However, having said that, the speaker produces some thump for its small size. There’s a good amount of bass here. Podcast / audiobook vocals were loud and clear. Sometimes, mids got a bit drowned out. But, on the whole, I would say the audio quality is very good. I’m going to pick up another speaker for stereo mode as soon as I can. Conclusion: The XB100 is a great little speaker. If you’re looking for a Bluetooth speaker in this price point, the XB100 is easy to recommend. 5/5

If you're in search of a high-quality portable Bluetooth speaker, look no further. With its impressive performance and compact design, the Sony Compact Bluetooth Speaker fits the bill. It's a Sony so I expect superior sound quality and it delivers even despite the speakers small size of just two inches. The audio is remarkably clear and powerful. The bass is rich and resonant, while the overall volume is sufficient to enjoy your favorite music or podcasts from up to 40 feet away. Measuring at 3 inches wide and 3.5 inches tall, this speaker is perfectly sized to fit snugly into any backpack without occupying much space. Its build construction is notably sturdy, featuring a combination of durable plastic and a protective metal screen for the speaker. This thoughtful design ensures that you need not worry about accidental damage, allowing you to take the speaker on your adventures without hesitation. The buttons on the speaker are thoughtfully designed, slightly raised for easy access and with a satisfying tactile feedback when pressed. The charger cover is conveniently removable, revealing a standard USB-C port for effortless charging. Moreover, the inclusion of a stylish and convenient strap adds to the overall appeal of the speaker. This strap can be easily attached or detached, providing a secure grip even during moments of vigorous movement. The speaker is designed to withstand jostling and is unlikely to accidentally detach. The build quality looks like a good level of water resistance making it an excellent companion for poolside lounging or any outdoor activities involving water. Battery life has been more than enough. We've been using it for days without charging it again. The one thing I could have wanted was maybe a stainless steel 1/4 inch thread for the base so you could mount it easily for various locations. The XB100 has got impressive sound quality, compact size, sturdy construction, user-friendly design, water resistance, and seamless connectivity. It's a no-brainer.

This compact bluetooth speaker doubles as a speakerphone. It’s about 2/3 the size of a soda can and sounds more impressive than you’d think for its size. The convenient and versatile strap is great for hanging it from chairs, handlebars or anything else you might have nearby. Pros: * Clear and crisp sound with good bass. * Easy to use as a speakerphone for voice calls or voice assistants. * Great battery life. * Safe to use in wet and dirty environments. * Convenient strap for hanging or securing to rails, handlebars, etc. * Can run from an external battery or charger for longer sessions. * Can pair two of them for stereo sound. Cons: * Small LED for battery level display is too simple and is hard to see outside. * Only one microphone on the side of this can-shaped speaker. * Works with Sony’s Music Center app but only mentions this deep in the online documentation. Bluetooth speakers are so common these days that it’s hard to find a good one. Sound quality is subjective and each speaker prioritizes different things, so you really have to go in with the right expectations. This Sony XB100 speaker is first and foremost a tiny go-anywhere speaker. It tries to maximize the sound and battery life given its small size and is objectively successful. Setup is typical for a Bluetooth speaker. Plug it in to charge it up, then power it on and it goes immediately into Bluetooth pairing mode. Pairing to your device of choice is mostly dictated by that device, but pairing was as simple as can be expected. Charging is done via a USB-C connector located under a protective rubber flap. While charging, a small orange light is on, and when the light is off, it’s safe to unplug and go traveling. This speaker has great battery life claimed at 16 hours at moderate volume, but you can also plug it in to an external USB battery pack or wall adapter for much longer playback than the built-in battery provides. There are individual buttons to turn the speaker on/off with a simple tap, raise or lower the volume, play/pause/answer/end, and a separate button to put it in pairing mode. While it may seem odd to have the pairing button be as large and prominent as the rest, this is probably to make it easier to share the speaker around a group by easily allowing it to be paired with someone else’s device and not have to remember button combinations or find a small, hidden button. The built-in speakers on most smartphone are getting good, but there’s still no match for a separate dedicated speaker. This compact Sony speaker is smaller than a soda can and sounds much louder and clearer than a typical smartphone speaker. There’s even a microphone with echo cancellation so you can use this as a speakerphone for calls or talking to a voice assistant. Just be aware that there is only one microphone (located below the play/pause button) so it might not clearly pick up everyone gathered around it speaking. This unit is rated to get wet and dirty without complaining. It’s not recommended to float in water or be placed directly on sand, but otherwise should be good wherever you want great sound. You can even rinse it in a sink to get the gunk off… just be sure that the battery flap is securely closed. The sound is clear and the bass is really good for a speaker of this size. It’s really nice for small gatherings or when the action is near the speaker, but I wouldn’t expect it to be as amazing once you start getting far from it… it can only do so much in such a small package ;-) When the battery needs a charge, the small orange LED below the power button starts blinking. This is your primary indication that It’s time to charge the speaker, but the light isn’t very visible outside in bright sunlight. The speaker does have a small set of voice prompts but they’re mostly limited to pairing activities. It would be great if the speaker periodically said something when the battery is getting low like “Charge me soon.” While not mentioned anywhere on the box or in the printed manuals in the box, this speaker does connect to the “Sony Music Center” app for iOS and Android. In the app, you can see the speakers power level, update its firmware and a few other things. Overall, this speaker is an amazing balance of size, battery life, features and sound quality. It’s a great companion for those who want better sound than the built-in speakers in their phones and want to share the audio without headphones.

Terrible for indoors and worst for outdoors. This is probably one of the worst small speakers I have ever had. — This is what I would expect from Temu, not Sony. — I can't hear anything past a few feet and the sound is muffled. I have tried everything, including triple checking the volume on different devices. — This speaker should be worth $5, and that's saying a lot. Looks good though.

This Sony Compact Bluetooth Speaker is another quality Sony product. Compact in size this bluetooth speaker connected easily to my network via bluetooth and worked flawlessly. Sometimes pairing devices can be a bit of a pain. Not with this speaker. It paired in a few seconds. The sound quality is very impressive. The Bass as well. Wow, in such a small footprint who would think that is possible. Sound quality is clear and solid. The claimed battery life is 16 hours and I am near that with the intial charge and it is running like a charm. Paired with the Sony app it is easy to play your music. The app is smooth and simply makes it easier to play content versus going from phone to speaker device. The unit has a built in speaker for hands free calling and it too worked very well. Sound quality was again impressive from my end and the caller's end as well. The unit comes with a strap and is lightweight and easy to throw in a bag. It has a plastic outer shell and a grip pattern on it if you pick it up by the speaker instead of the strap. Great size for portable on the go use. We took it to the park yesterday. The speaker is waterproof. The charging cable, included is a type c usb cable. Charge time is pretty quick too. Sony means quality and Sony has done it again with this impressive compact portable speaker. I highly recommend it.

I needed a new Bluetooth speaker to use at home and decided to try out the brand-new Sony SRS XB100 compact speaker since it listed many great features found in more expensive products. I have always had positive experiences with Sony audio products over the years and expected the small speaker to be a good quality product. When I unboxed it I was pleased to see the materials on the speaker did make it look like a modern good quality item. I appreciated the fact that a USB C charging cable was included with it for being able to maximize the rechargeable battery life. The paperwork included with the speaker stated it could last up to 16 hours when fully charged. I found it impressive that the speaker would last longer than 8 hours which would probably the max time I would use it in one day. I was able to quickly setup the speaker and pair it with an Android smartphone and an IOS iPhone so I could test out the difference in how it functioned with each type of phone. I knew there was a Sony music app that could be used for adding apps to the speaker and to help manage the settings so I tried it out on each device. I also used the speaker without the Sony app so I could see if it made any difference on being able to control the sounds or tweak the settings. The first day of playback of music with my smartphones next to my bed with the speaker on the floor provided rich sounds that I would normally come from a much larger speaker, so I was impressed. Sony listed a sound diffusion processor in it so it made sense why it seemed to fill the area with plenty of sound. The second day I tried it in my office on a desk and was not as impressed with the sound from the speaker, so I knew I needed to do more testing to find out what the real issue was for the best sound. I had used Spotify and Apple Music when testing out the sounds and honestly in my opinion the speaker sounded the best when playing music via Spotify. I am sure everyone’s experience is different, so I am just suggesting trying different apps if you do not like the quality of the sound you receive with your first source of music. I did also use some of the settings for the EQ on the android phone which helped out even more to be able to get even higher quality sounding music. The pros of the device is that it takes up very little space, is easy to carry around with or without the included strap, also it has the long-lasting rechargeable battery, and is compatible with all newer Bluetooth devices. It also has a waterproof rating that is really minimal if you read the fine print so I would keep it away from any potential falling into a pool or getting submerged completely in water. The cons of the device is mainly the ability to easily tweak the EQ settings of the speaker without resorting to apps or other settings. Also, the speaker produces plenty of sound but is not great for a party with many people since you would need a much bigger speaker for the environment, but Sony has the new bigger models out too. Overall, I think it is a successful execution of the vision Sony had for a small portable speaker that could provide enough sound to enjoy your favorite music in various settings and is compatible with most Bluetooth devices.

    ## Design The Sony SRS-XB100 speaker is a small yet surprisingly mighty Bluetooth speaker that can easily accompany you on hikes, trips, or simply lounging by the pool. It has a cylindrical shape that measures just under 4 inches in height and about 3 inches in diameter. It weighs less than a pound and comes in black, blue, and orange color options. A detachable carrying hand strap is included (something I really appreciate it!). ## Performance Speakers at this size typically lack decent bass, but that's not the case with the SRS-XB100. Setting it on a table or up against a wall enhances the bass response nicely. If you have it hanging from your backpack or a chair, for example, the bass response is less noticeable, but still much better than many of the speakers I've used at this size. While playing P!nk's "Just Like a Pill", I could feel the small vibrations from the speaker's bass through my desk while working. It has maybe just a tad less bass than my JBL Clip 4 speaker, but depending on the song, you may not notice. Mid's and highs also come through clear and the sounds does not sound "muddy" or "tinny" at all. Given the size, the speaker does not get very loud, but it is fine for a small or medium-sized room, or for a small gathering in the backyard or even for tailgating with some friends. However, if you do need to spread the sound across a larger area, the speaker can be paired with another SRS-XB100 speaker (and only the same model) for stereo sound. ## Features - Carrying strap: I love when a speaker has a built-in carrying strap as it makes it easy to carry around the house while doing chores or to hang it from a tree branch when working outside. - Bass: Sony states this speaker features an improved driver and sound diffusion processor for richer bass and expansive sound. Again, this speaker is best for smaller spaces, but the bass is very good and sound is definitely not muddy nor tinny as you might find with cheaper portable speakers. - Speakerphone: The speaker has a built-in mic and can be used as a speakerphone or for conference calls. It features echo cancelling technology and allows two people to talk at the same time. - IP67 waterproof and dustproof: The speaker can be your outdoor buddy with both waterproof and dustproof properties. You can use it poolside or even at the beach, although the manual states not to place the speaker directly on sand (I'm guessing because sand is a pain to get out of the grills of any speaker). - UV coating: I don't know if I've seen this on a Bluetooth speaker before, but you can let this speaker bask in the sun worry-free thanks to the UV coating, which should help improve the longevity of the exterior in the sun. ## Battery Life The speaker can last up to 16 hours on a single charge (playing at a relatively low volume) and it takes about 4.5 hours to recharge with a USB-C charging cable. ## Summary The Sony SRS-XB100 is a compact yet great-sounding speaker ideal for travel and outdoor adventures. Sound quality and bass are very good, and the handy carrying strap makes it easy to tether from a backpack or tree branch.

First of all, this speaker is really cute and compact. The orange is a nice pop of color. I bought it for my home office so I wanted something that didn't take up a lot of space. It can run all day on one charge. I like the fact it's double duty and I can use it outdoors if the occasion arises. Other reviewers said it doesn't get too loud but they were talking about outdoor use. Volume is sufficient for indoor use. At a softer volume the should is a little muffled but it's fine. I'm not expecting Dolby Stereo from a $60 speaker. If you're looking to get a versatile, inexpensive speaker, this is a good option. Very happy with my purchase.

The Sony XB100 , especially in this Orange colorway is one of the nicest looking and feeling speakers I've seen, held, owned. It's also sturdy, having dropped it once, only to find it was unharmed (thankfully). I have mostly used the speaker in a small space, say a bathroom area! and found the quality of the sound from the speaker is very good, solid bass though as others noted, overall a bit low unless you crank up the volume. Again small spaces shouldn't be an issue and I believe you can pair 2 XB100's together if you need even more juice!. Also depends on what it's connected to. One funky part I had was in connecting a new device to the speaker, it can take a few tries (especially if you previously connected to the figure and deleted that connection). May need to reset the device. once connected however, it's a seemless connection. As for battey life, not sure on overall / max ensurance, the longest I've used it was for 7 hours, and it worked without fail. If looking for compact, unique design (easy to find in this or blue color), with call feature, I would recommmend this speaker, especially on sale!
