Not what I hoped for.

The sound is loud after a full charge for about an hour then seems to be much quieter.I have several other Sony items and this was the first issue.

Posted .Hi NicoleC, The sound may become low in the following cases. This is not a malfunction.
When the built-in battery is running low and the CHARGE indicator flashes slowly, while the speaker is being powered by the built-in battery only.
When the rechargeable built-in battery is running low as a result of long-time use of the speaker at a loud volume even though the speaker was connected to an AC outlet by a USB AC adaptor (commercially available) or to a computer that comes equipped with a USB charging port.
When the ambient temperature of the speaker is high.
If the sound becomes low while in use, follow the procedure below.
Turn off the speaker.
Charge the built-in battery sufficiently.

It was an impulse buy to replace a different mini speaker for an upcoming vacation. This is bulky and the sound is nothing special. It’s not worth more than $20.

Small and cute but not made like they used to

Really was not what i was hoping for. The volume very low and just not built like my prior 1 foot tall speaker which is also by Sony. I really don't recommend this speaker.

Great little speaker with good sound

It makes a pleasant musical tone and another little sound when you turn it on and when it connects with your device. Sometimes when I get a new speaker, and listen to music on it for the first time, I notice the imbalance in the sound right away, like it’s too tin-y, or too much bass, but this one sounded just right. The speaker is 3.5” tall, and 3” in diameter.The case of the speaker is very thoughtfully designed. It feels nice in my hand, and has an appropriate heft for its size. It is worth noting that Sony’s packaging designers are doing amazing work at making a package for their products that contain no plastic. The recycled paperboard box is sort of a work of art. Also included in the box is the charging cable, which is USB-C to USB-A. The speaker is small enough that I would take it with me on a short weekend trip. Recently I was on a week-long trip and didn’t bring a Bluetooth speaker, and I wish I had brought something. Now I have this compact one to pack next time! This speaker is also waterproof, which is nice for listening in the shower. I’m not really an outdoors person, but I think this speaker would be sturdy enough to be clipped to a backpack and see some adventure.

The effective frequency range is 100 Hz – 7000 Hz. Based on those numbers alone, the low end is capped at 100 Hz. It is evident that this little speaker cannot create deep bass, but for its size, the amount it does produce is perfect. Mids and highs are more prominent with this speaker. This is necessary to fill up a room or outside space with good sound. The build quality is excellent. The buttons on the device are simple and easy to use. The fact that it is waterproof and dustproof makes this a good option for outside use in all types of environments: pool, beach, camping, etc. Its compact size also makes it good for traveling. This speaker has the latest Bluetooth technology built in. Bluetooth 5.3 has a larger data transmission bandwidth, which allows it to pair with an additional wireless XB100 speaker while maintaining quality sound and a strong signal between them. The speaker is rated for16 hours of playback time. Bluetooth 5.3’s energy efficiency contributes to a longer battery life. I have been able to test the playing time of this speaker and it lasted over 15 hours with volume near 50%. This is very close to the advertised 16 hours of playback time. Overall, this speaker is packed with features, has a long-lasting battery, and produces good distortion free sound. It’s another quality product from Sony.

Very good little speaker

I have one in my main shower, but not one for my other bathroom that I sometimes use to get ready in the mornings. This hangs nicely on my shower head and is water proof. For size estimate, it sits in my palm like a baseball/softball. For a small speaker, this has big sound. Ample bass is there, very clear as Sony normally is with good clarity on vocals and higher notes and cymbals. That being said on some of the music I heard it sounded a bit tinny to me (a couple classic rock and a classical piece), but most sounded very balanced and clear. They claim 16 hours battery life, but I've had this a few days and use it 30 to 45 minutes a day so far, so can't testify to how long the battery will last. I did charge it for about 5 hours when I got it to make sure it was fulky charged. I have have answered calls on this just to check it out before I put it in the shower just in case I had to answer in an emergency, sound was clear and mic did well for sound. Overall this is competitively priced for what you get, and the name on it does continue to maintain quality from what I can see. I do reccomend this speaker.

|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Gotta be honest, I was a little taken aback (pleasantly) when I first opened the big box that came containing the Sony - XB100 Compact Bluetooth Speaker. I've got other compact/desktop speakers and- even after seeing the pictures- assumed the Sony would be of similar size. Next time- I'll read the specs more closely! The Sony - XB100 Compact Bluetooth Speaker is only a little larger in diameter than a soda can and not even as tall. That said, it provides sound that is equally as clear and room-filling with bass as deep as all but my sub-woofer-equipped (and much more expensive & larger) sound bar system. With great sound and excellent price nailed, the Sony - XB100 then just keeps going with features: - the strap allows it to stay secure wherever you need it - its IP67 rated water and dustproof rating means I'm not overly concerned with taking it wherever I happen to be going - up to 16 hour battery life means I don't need to worry too much about the music dying - ...but if it does get low, the USB-C charging port means the same cables I have laying all over to charge everything else will always be handy! - set up was about as simple as any connection I've ever made to my phone AND THE DEVICE CAN BE NAMED! (This a new must have feature for me; in a world where we're always surrounded by Bluetooth connections from others, having the ability to distinguish my devices with a specific name is clutch!) If you're looking for small, convenient, affordable & QUALITY sound in a party-ready package... look no further!

Posted .Hi PatM, we're sorry if the sound quality did not meet your expectations. This is definitely not the experience we'd like you to have. We do have ways to enhance or troubleshoot sound related concerns. Please try the following:
Check that both the speaker and the connected device are turned on.
Turn up the volume of the speaker and the connected device.
Depending on the connected BLUETOOTH device, volume adjustment on the BLUETOOTH device may not change the volume level of the speaker (i.e. the(power) indicator does not flash).
When the volume of the speaker sounds low, adjust the volume level of the BLUETOOTH device to an appropriate one, and then adjust the volume level of the speaker with the –/+ (volume) buttons on the speaker.
Check that the connected device is playing.

Does NOT pair with Windows laptop

However, the device does NOT pair with my Windows 11 laptop. Turns out this device is not designed to pair with a laptop. I have paired many other Bluetooth devices to my laptop, but this one is special and is not designed to do so. A complete waste of $60.
