Horrible sound from the start

I gave this product a fair chance to impress me and as I expected Sony to do, they failed miserably. I was actually very hopeful that these headphones would be as good as they were advertised to be, but I can't give them a good review after listening to them and dealing with their customer support.
To start with, they are very nice looking. The build quality seems good. Buttons are tight and responsive. They are laid out nicely so that even with the phones on your head, it's easy to feel your way around them. Sound quality on the other hand leaves a lot to be desired. I tried these phones with three different Bluetooth streaming devices, all with the same results. From the moment I turned them on, they just didn't sound right. The left ear piece sounded OK by itself, the right one sounded like it had a blown woofer. Nothing I tried made the sound any better. I tried flattening out the EQ settings and listened to a wide variety of music styles, but they all had the same problem. Distorted low end. Turning on the “Extra Bass” only made the issue much worse.
After pouring over the instruction sheet, I found that there was a way to factory reset the headphones. Not really sure why there would be a need to do this, but OK. I factory reset them several times. Nothing helped. I paired and unpaired them with multiple sources, all with no improvement.
In an effort to let Sony redeem themselves and remove the now bad taste in my mouth that I had from them, I emailed customer support. I found that the only thing worse than these headphones, was actually Sony's customer support. I emailed them because I wasn't about to waste a lot of time on hold waiting for help. It was OK with me if they took a couple of days to get back to me. Well, they got back to me right away. In my email to them I explained the issue I was hearing, the model number of the headphones, and what I had done to try to fix the problem (the factory reset). Their email asked me only one thing, what is the model number of the headphones. I responded just as quickly and gave them the model number (a second time). They responded again to me with a link to the instruction page for the headphones and told me to factory reset them. They then added, if the problem persists, contact customer support. I replied again and explained that I had already done that several times. On their third email back to me I received a link to a page that supposedly contained a form to fill out, in order to have a technician look at them. And after searching the page briefly and not finding the form, I called it a day, and I washed my hands of their horrible product. The only reason I gave them two stars instead of one is because I feel that I truly got a lemon pair, but their customer support made me feel as if none of my emails were read, and I was just a dumb customer that couldn't figure them out.

Basshead heaven

Initially I thought the bass was just too heavy when I tested wired after picking it up. The app to connect Bluetooth has a 1-10 bass setting, and I find 3-5 a good setting for most music. It surprised me how clean it sounds when played loud, it doesn't distort. Bass is what this headphone is about and it has tons of it. Mids and highs are good but it isn't really bright.
I recently returned a set of Skullcandy Crushers... though it was fun at times, I didn't like the bass driver constantly turning itself off.
The bass on these Sony's is so much more refined than the Skullcandy's. Sub-bass frequencies are so much more prominent. Using Bass Mekanik's 5.0 cd, the track Tranx! at (1:30) really puts this to the test. On the SC Crushers, sub-bass is nearly non-existent and drowned out by higher frequencies above 60hz. On the Sony XB's you can literally feel the bass sweeping downward into the deepest sub-bass, and it present and loud. On the track System Checka, you can feel every note down to the lowest through the Sony's, whereas the SC's couldn't seem to drop into the lowest frequencies.
I'm very happy with these Sony's. I wouldn't definitely get another set if these were lost.

These have great sound! I also have some Beats and these are more comfortable and have better sound. The Beats are heavier which eventually gave me a headache. These are lighter and do not cause pain when wearing for extended time.

Sounded great, was comfortable, and lasted a long time on a single charge.
BUT, one ear piece broke off after only 1.5 years (indoors/office use).

Too much bass

Why did I buy an extra bass headphones if I don't like bass? Good question, I like bass and I like that I can crank it up or down. However, there is just a tad too much still when I don't have or want the boost on. I listen from classical to heavy metal to some hip-hop. For the former bass boost goes of, for the later it goes on and these shine.

Poor Construction / Great Sound
Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.
Sony audio products typically provide great sound for the price. The XB950B1 is no exception. Crisp, clear, audio with good bass. Good, albeit not great, noise cancellation. Sadly the plastic forms connecting the earpieces to the headpiece are poorly designed and flimsy. Two sets I've purchased have broken in exactly the same place - rending the headsets useless. Though more costly, I'm moving on to another - preferably with sturdy metal construction for my next set.

Sound Lacks Brightness

There's not enough mid-range and treble coming through for my liking. The sound is muffled to me. I guess if you favor bass effect they do the job, but the music lacks brightness on these headphones.

Bought two sets ( Mine + wife) of these a while back, I wasn't looking to spend this much but they performed and felt great in store. Unfortunately they only lasted maybe a year before they cracked at the narrow spot on the pivot between the muff and headstrap. exact same spot on both sides. My wife never used hers much so I started using the other set.... then they broke in exactly the same spot on both sides. Kind of a let down on some seriously expensive and otherwise great headgear.
No, I don't have a gargantuan head, do gymnatics with them, toss them about by the cord or any other kind of abuse.
great headphones except for one critical design flaw.

I was gifted these headphones, and everything was working great for 7 months until; one day I turned them on and none of the buttons on the side worked, besides the initial power. After they turned on you couldn't do anything else including turning them off.

I bought two pairs of these for Christmas last year for my teens. My sons broke within the first month of him having them. Earpiece broke off of the headset. My husband was able to repair them and glue it back together. My daughters broke this summer. Exact same place. We were not able to fix those. They had AWESOME sound when they worked. Just really disappointed in the build quality.

Good for Music, not for movie

I got one on sale for 100 over X-mas time. The base is too strong when switched on, not enough when switch off. Overall excellent for music. However, it is not for movie. I using it to watch old movie: 007 Tomorrow Never Die, and the sound just terrible with base totally distorted. Had to return it. I am writing this review because I found myself online shopping for wireless headphone again. LOL...
