I use when I mow the lawn and always worn ear protection but this is so much better. Music from my phone and noise cancel helps keep outside sound out! Will use on plane trips also.

It may not be a BOSE, but the quality and performance are very good given the price. Only reason I do not give it 5 stars is because many times it takes many tries to connect via Bluetooth.

My new Sony Noise Cancelling headphones are easy to use and very convenient. My wife loves it know she doesn't have to leave the room because the TV is so loud.

Noise cancelling works nearly as well as the Bose headsets. Compared these on last flight with airline supplied Bose headset and couldn't hear any real difference.

Bought the Bluetooth headphones so I could watch late night tv without disturbing anyone. The extra bass doesn’t work for me while watching tv but is good when listening to music. Nice headphones for the price

Before we get this review started, let’s set the stage a bit. Prior to acquiring these headphones I had a pair of Bose QC 35’s. As that is one of the reigning champions of the wireless noise canceling market, I’m going to compare these Sony MDR-XB950N1’s to them. Some context about me, I wouldn’t consider myself an “audiophile,” but I work in an open-office plan and think that it counts as sufficient use of noise canceling. What’s good: The most critical part for headphones of this size and type is that they are comfortable. I can confirm that these are indeed comfortable. I’ve worn them for the majority of the time that I have had them and haven’t gotten sweaty ears or the pain you get from cheap headphones crushing your pinna. Overall they are relatively lightweight. The one main complaint I have about my pair of Bose headphones is that if you are using bluetooth to connect audio, you must run noise canceling mode. This particular pair doesn’t have that issue and I love it! One can have bluetooth enabled and a mix of noise canceling or Bass Boost without issue. This is instantly worth a star in my book. Of course, it also comes with a 3.5mm cable if you want to plug it into a headphone jack of your choosing. One of the other awesome features of this product is that it has a really nice Android app called Sony Headphones Connect. Yeah, it will tell you the battery level and the status of the noise canceling. But it will also tell you what the status of the VPT (more on that in a sec), tune the level of the bass boost to taste on a scale of -10 to 10, and pair the device via NFC. VPT is a neat feature that lets you simulate certain venues (such as an arena, a club, outdoors, etc…). Its cool in that when it was set, it did sound like I was in that area. Outdoors was especially convincing. Does it add any value for me? No, not really. Turned it on for five minutes then turned it off after saying “that’s cool!” What’s not: The main reason I got these headphones was for the noise canceling feature. And I can confirm it’s not terrible on these. My primary complaint is that the base silence still has a low level sound to it as if it is not cutting out all the persistent noises. I’ve noticed that voices bleed through a bit stronger depending on who is talking and _where_ they are talking in relation to your ears. Overall, not terrible, but could be better. My biggest complaint about this device is the audio prompts from it talking to you. Whenever you perform an ‘enabling’ action such as changing the power state, changing the bass boost state, or changing the noise canceling state, it audibly speaks it to you. This is fine. However it blocks all other user input until it finishes saying what it has to say. A quick description of what I’m getting at, let’s say I want to turn it on, toggle the noise canceling and bass boost effects from whatever their last used state was. The process would be <power button press> ”Power on”, <noise canceling press> “Noise Canceling, [status]”, <bass boost press> “Base Effect, [status].” I’d much rather be able to have those actions queue up so I don’t have to hold my hand to my ear for 30 seconds while it talks to me. One would think that you could avoid this by using the app, however even changing the noise canceling effect from the app blocks the app inputs! As for things that bother me but didn’t count towards this review but might be beneficial for potential buyers, the headphones, both look and feel sharp. There are very few rounded off edges on the device. Also, VPT is a nice feature, but not worth anything extra. Audio wise, I’d say these sound ok. Not fantastic, but not terrible. Lows and highs were ok, but the treble and bass were way off. Some songs, enabling bass booster made them awesome. But frequently I would find myself turning the same effect off a few songs later because it made the song terrible. Maybe it’s that I have too much varied tastes in music or that I prefer treble to bass tonality. Whatever it is though, I don’t like having to continually mess around with my headphones to get the music to sound just ‘right.’ In conclusion, these are pretty nice. The noise canceling is acceptable, audio quality is ok and they come with a ton of features. There are a few downsides that I didn’t particularly care for (the user interface in particular is subpar for me). For the MSRP of this product and the alternatives in the market around this price, it would be a difficult decision for me. If you can spring a few more dollars, a pair of QC35’s might be nicer. Otherwise, these will do a fine job of your audio needs.

I was looking for a replacement set for my Bose since the ear pieces had basically disetegrated. I went in to Best Buy with the intent to just purchase another pair but after listening to these I decided to take a chance and couldn’t be more satisfied. The quality for what I needed is exceptional, the range is fantastic, hands free phone feature is clear with no complaints from anyone so far, the length a charge lasts is incredible and at literally half the price there is no way I would go back to Bose (unless of course, they gave me a pair;0) Do yourself a favor and check these out before you make your final decision.

These are great headphones. But there is a few negatives I have. The noise canceling works so so, you still here some voices and sounds when you have the noise canceling on. If you wear glasses while you have the headphones on the headphones tend to hurt your ears after a while. I have yet to been able to get the headphones to connect to my Bluetooth Sony TV, will have to call Sony support. But I am gonna keep the headphones the sound and base are really good. The phone answering works very well. I bought these before Christmas at half price. Would not buy them though for full price.
