With the Line-Shape Diffuser, the sound spreads further to the front area of the speaker allowing you to enjoy the same sound quality whether you are at the front or to the side of the speaker. Unlike a conventional speaker, with most of the energy focused from the center of the cone, our unique Line-Shape Diffuser refocuses the sound through a narrow aperture. The overall volume may vary depending on the source content. Turn up the volume of the speaker and the connected device. Make sure to charge the built-in battery sufficiently. The sound may become low in the following cases. This is not a malfunction.

-When the built-in battery is running low and the CHARGE indicator flashes slowly, while the speaker is being powered by the built-in battery only.

-When the rechargeable built-in battery is running low as a result of long-time use of the speaker at a loud volume even though the speaker was connected to an AC outlet by a USB AC adaptor (commercially available) or to a computer that comes equipped with a USB charging port.

-When the ambient temperature of the speaker is high.

By downloading the Sony Music Center app, you will find all sorts of tools to fine-tune the speaker using the built-in EQ and maximize the volume to ensure optimal listening experience. You made find this link helpful:

The sound quality will depend in the source, battery and environment that you're playing. We recommend using the Sony Music Center to adjust the sound settings for better audio experience.
