Solid Effort, But May Not Be Everyone's Taste...

Although Sony continues to lead with creativity and quality in the very crowded market of Blue Tooth speakers overall (especially for Bass Lovers), This latest effort is not quite what I have come to expect from Sony speakers, although still a solid speaker overall. Blue Tooth connections were smooth, seamless, and very easy and intuitive to do, so no surprises there. I am a fan of speakers that still have physical buttons on the speaker, in case of unforeseen issues that could arise from speakers that almost strictly use apps to operate. The dedicated battery stamina button is great and appreciated, above using a system of beeps and flashes like other less user-friendly devices of this type. The shape/design of the speaker seems to help give a fuller sound from all angles, with no noticeable drop in sound quality regardless of the position of the speaker. Battery Life was also great, with what felt to me to be a fairly quick charge for a speaker that can go days with fairly heavy usage. Standby battery power retention is also great, as I meant to take this on vacation but forgot it for a week, and returned to find it was still sitting at a full 100% charge after leaving it for a week. Portability is also great, especially with the handy carrying cord attached to it, and it is sized in a way that fits nicely within a book bag or travel case too. The reason for the one-star deduction is regarding sound control, as Treble control is limited. There are no preset EQs or specific Bass boost function on this model, and unlike other Sony speakers I've used in the past, a virtual EQ from an app or computer is not as responsive here. Default sound is balanced enough to please the average music listener, and there's enough Bass control for a Bass lover to be content, but don't expect to manually tune out the treble to enjoy the bass line. Those soaring vocals will be ever-present regardless of what EQ settings you are using, although at lower volume levels, the speaker's Bass production can be felt more powerfully than at higher volumes, where things can be a bit muddy with the vocals and Bass together (again, a bit unusual for a Sony product). At time of writing, I was not able to access my Sony Music app, so it is possible there could be some sort of Sony-specific sound controls to alter the EQ of the speaker, but even if this is the case, I'd have taken a star off for that being the only way to access special sound settings. This will please most users without needing any adjustments, especially if you really want to hear those vocals clearly and consistently, but if you are looking for something to keep a party thumping to the Bass with minimal vocals (or more evenly balanced vocals), you may want to look into one of Sony's other more powerful Bass producing devices. Again, not bad, but not necessarily able to give you that extra bump that some more Bass-heavy speakers from Sony and others can give you. A good mid-ranger for any music-lover's speaker collection, but not necessarily la-creme-de-la-creme for Bass lovers. Would recommend, but caution Bass aficionados, as there are many competitors (even within Sony's own line-up) that may meet Bass needs better in this class range.

Hi RedOmen, thank you for choosing and purchasing our product. We appreciate your detailed review of our SRSXE200. Here's what you can do with “Sony | Music Center”, please check this link:

      https://helpguide.sony.net/speaker/srs-xe200/v1/en/contents/TP1000669365.html?search=music

The XE200 has a Line-Shape Diffuser that will help your music reach further, even to the side of the speaker. Plus, with a portable size and handy carry strap, you can take it anywhere you go with ease. Unlike a conventional speaker, with most of the energy focused from the center of the cone, our unique Line-Shape Diffuser refocuses the sound through a narrow aperture. The increase in sound pressure energy spreads the audio equally in each direction both further and wider out from the speaker. Instead of the traditional circular design, our unique diaphragm shape increases sound pressure for booming bass and distinctive, high-quality audio. With an IP67 rating, your speaker is sealed against dust, so you can use it on any surface, whether you decide to take it to the beach, the park or the garden. With extensive shock testing you can rest assure that this speaker will withstand inevitable drops, bumps and scrapes that come with everyday use. Thank you for choosing SONY. ~Earl Sony_US

Now This Is One Great Portable Speaker!

The Sony SRSXE200 is a great little portable Bluetooth speaker measuring at about 8.25" high x 3.5" wide. It certainly packs a mighty punch of sound for its size! Upon opening and setup you'll need to download the Sony Music Center App on your phone. I was disappointed Sony didn't include a charger but my iPhone charger worked fine. They do include a 21" USB to C cable, although I found it too short for my use and bought a longer one. All is fine now. I must say this speaker charged fully very fast. Inside the app there is a 3 band equalizer so you can easily adjust the tones to whatever type of music you're listening to. I have played Rock, Pop, Country, Instrumentals, my own recordings and sleep stories for bedtime. Everything sounded wonderful except I did raise the treble to max on my own music recordings or it sounded somewhat muffled. I am not a big bass listener but it's there if you want it. This speaker fits my needs perfectly. You can also manage 2 devices with it. One thing I wish Sony would have done is included an Aux/Headphone input as I have a use for it but most certainly is not a deal breaker and most folks will never miss or need it. The speaker connects immediately to whatever source I am using - my iPhone, iMac, Windows laptop, a TV. I like the fact that my phone calls will direct to it as well and they sound nice and clear. Have had no problem with anyone hearing my voice on the other end, they say I sound fine. I have had virtually no dropped signals from whatever I connected to either. A real plus as other portable speakers I've used have always seemed to have this issue. If it starts to get low on charge you can get about 70 minutes of use on just a 10 minute booster charge. I was also pleasantly surprised that I got almost the 16 hours on one full charge! The shape is unique and the line-shape diffuser gave me full sound from the sides as well as the front. Another notable feature is the X Balanced speaker because it has a non-circular diaphragm, being oblong instead of the usual round. The speaker covering is rated at IP67 meaning it won't matter if you splash some water on it but it's not fully waterproof so cannot be submersed. I am not a beach bunny but if you are sand won't bother this little beauty either. When you connect to Bluetooth you will hear a voice telling you so. She also tells you about the battery life and you can set it up to work with Alexa and Google. I happen to have a 43" Sony TV that I connected to and it worked flawlessly. It added that extra sound boost my TV needed! All in all I can find no real issues with the Sony SRSXE200. It's the perfect answer for portability, sound and quality. You can't go wrong making this purchase! It's awesome!

Hi Mizshutterbug, Amazing! We're very happy to hear you like the compact size, powerful sound, easy to use Sony | Music Center app, easy Bluetooth pairing, crystal clear phone call quality, and overall features of your new Sony SRS-XE200. The XE200 speaker sends sound out from a small, compact unit. You can spread sound wider with the Line-Shape Diffuser and enjoy powerful sound pressure and clarity with the X-Balanced Speaker, all housed inside a portable speaker with a handy strap. Pair with IP67 Water resistance, dustproof and shockproof design, this speaker is made for even the strongest elements. Keep the party going with up to 16-hours of battery life on a single charge and USB-C quick charging gives you up to 70 minutes of playback after just 10 minutes of charge time. Thanks for choosing Sony! -Sam Sony_US

    Rugged and Reliable

This is a solid buy with easy to use features and a rugged design. Honestly, the sound quality is just too bass heavy and the middle and high notes (treble) are a bit too muted in my honest opinion. I did not break a sweat about it as the rival speakers in this category all exhibit this symptom. I like the design though it may not be everyone's cup of tea. There is a futuristic tinge in the physical countenance of the product. It is rugged alright. PERFECT for the pool and the beach. You can take it from me: I put it under the shower and also threw it in the pool (3 feet depth for about 20 seconds) and it worked just fine. I have seen and used Sony products for decades and their reliability has always been splendid so irrespective of all the rough use I expect this to last for a long, long, time. Battery life is awesome. Honestly, after so many reviews of speakers at this level, I am quite unsure about whether there is a product out there with such good battery life. Bluetooth range and pick up and overall ease of connection is second to none. NONE. 30 meters is very impressive and in my tests I pushed it way past that many times and never had any problems. The app is there and is helpful but for a multipurpose outdoor speaker I am uncertain how much use it will get. You can pair it with only X-series speakers it seems (but I may be wrong about this one), as it failed to find other speakers (from different manufacturers) in my network. The USB-C charging port is reliable and I am happy that Sony did not regress to the micro route. The rubber seal seems reliable. A quick charge will give you ample playing time. I did not get the chance to check the microphone though I am quite sure that it will work fine as well. Highly recommended. I have used and reviewed Sony products from cameras to other electronics and they are mostly very reliable and their product research and development teams are always praiseworthy.

      Hi AaronA,

We regret to hear that you are not satisfied with the XG300. Your feedback is extremely important to us and is very much appreciated. For optimum performance, make sure that the software version of the speaker is up-to-date. Please refer to this link for more information:

      https://www.sony.com/electronics/support/speakers-wireless-speakers/srs-xg300/software/00283954

The overall volume may vary depending on the source content. Turn up the volume of the speaker and the connected device. You also have the option to adjust the sound settings of the speaker to tailor-fit the sound quality to your needs. You may find this link helpful:

      https://helpguide.sony.net/speaker/srs-xg300/v1/en/contents/TP1000669923.html

Make sure to charge the built-in battery sufficiently. The sound may become low in the following cases. This is not a malfunction.

-While the speaker is running on power from the rechargeable built-in battery, the sound may become low in the event that the rechargeable built-in battery is running out of power and the CHARGE indicator flashes slowly. This, however, does not indicate a malfunction.

-When the ambient temperature of the speaker is high.

Additionally, you can use the Party Connect function and Stereo Pair function to enjoy a more powerful sound. You may refer to these links for more information:

Hi YouriV, we're sorry to hear that you have an issue with the sound quality of your Sony unit. The design of the SRSXE300 is directional, meaning the sound profile can vary depending on the speaker's orientation (horizontal vs. vertical) and the acoustics of the room. Experiment with different placements and orientations to find the best sound quality.

Please make sure that there are no obstacles (such as walls, metal objects, or other electronic devices) between the speaker and the connected device. Keep the speaker and the connected device as close as possible to verify that you can play music or sound without interruptions. If the issue persists, try changing the sound quality mode from "Priority on Sound Quality" to "Priority on Stable Connection" using the Sony | Music Center app. This can help improve the Bluetooth connection stability. Hi Franiou,

Thank you for taking the time to review your SRS-XE200 speaker. We're sorry to hear that it hasn't performed to your standards when it comes to the sound quality and the unit had to be returned.

To ensure optimal listening experience, we recommend downloading the Sony Music Center app. You will find all sorts of tools to fine-tune the speaker using the built-in EQ and maximize the volume. Additionally, if you find the bass sound can't be heard and there is ambient noise or another speaker nearby, the Ambient Noise Sensing function may activate and cause this issue. You can deactivate the Ambient Noise Sensing function using the Sony Music Center app or speaker button.

Note: When the Ambient Noise Sensing function is activated, the speaker detects environmental noises during the music playback. This function will help reduce power consumption and preserve the battery by cutting out bass sounds that will become hard to hear because of the ambient noise.

We hope that you will shop Sony again in the future. Thank you for your feedback.

      Regards,
      Jess Sony_US

The Sony XE300 is a sharp clear sounding speaker with a decent amount of bass to it. Not only does it sound good but it's also a distinct classic Sony style to it. It's a minimal style that doesn't gravitate any attention to it. Overall if you're wanting a clear sharp sounding speaker without the bass taking over the XE300 is an excellent speaker to considered. My first couple of hours with the Sony EX300 to be honest left me feeling disappointed. The sound coming out was just flat sounding almost muffled with the Sony ClearAudio+ equalizer. Even after adjusting the equalizer by increasing the bass and treble, some of the songs with strong bass ended up with distortion at higher volumes. Once the speaker started to break in after playing music for 5-6hrs straight, things started to sound much better. I started to notice how much clearer and sharp the mid-highs were sounding accompanied by some mid-bass. It really does a good job of sound reproduction that is more on the neutral side, that allows all parts of the song to shine without being taken over by harsh treble or overbearing bass. Sony is known for its excellent audio quality and it shows here. I ended up just sticking with the ClearAudio+ since it does a good job with all genres of music. The bass that it outputs it’s decent, but for some that are in favor of that pounding bass might be left disappointed. Overall I I enjoy the quality of the sound reproduction from the EX300. Some of the features I like from the EX300 was the IP67 rating. I was able to take it to the beach without worrying getting damage from the water or sand. Another feature that comes in handy sometimes is the included mic. It does a good job of handling calls without any complaints of the mic quality from the other end. Useful when you’re phone is not near to quickly answered a call. Battery life is very strong I ended up with around 60% battery life left with music constantly playing at around 40%-70% volume right around 7hrs of playback. Of course your mileage might vary depending on the source and level of the volume, but so far it’s been very good. With support for party connect you do have ability to pair up to 100 speakers for the ultimate party setting. The Sony Music Center allows you adjust some of the settings like the equalizer and smart power options that can extend the battery life by making adjustments to the sound output by monitoring the sound levels from the environment. There’s also a Fiesta app for some DJ sound effects. Overall I would highly recommend the Sony XE300 speaker for it’s great sound reproduction, that is backed by a solid battery life. It’s a speaker that not only looks good but sounds good too.
