My early experiences with them all centered around audio equipment, and they never disappointed. The SRS-XE300 comes along and turns into the type of experience that takes me all the way back to those nostalgic feelings I had for the company before the televisions, the movies, and all other products and offerings. Pulling the XE300 out of the box brought mixed feelings. It looks different, an eclectic design that borrows from a variety of product categories. I felt as if I was looking at a new-fangled wireless router or something. The quality construction is there, and the smooth rubbery surface is welcome – water, dust, and shock proof. The buttons are elegantly blended into the surface and the single USB-C port has the only slight ridge-like bump on its covering panel. The design is different, but welcome. It blends into any room and setting with little notice. It doesn’t look speaker like, and that’s a good thing when considering aesthetics. Yeah, yeah, I know it’s a portable speaker designed to go anywhere, but does that mean I’m just going to listen to it when I’m on the go? With all that said, my concern with regards to the design was more about sound. Sure, there are openings for the sound, but in my limited thinking I felt we need unrestricted, uncovered openings for great sound. That’s why they are Sony and I’m the consumer. If you’ve ever been frustrated buying a new product and getting it set up or up and running, this is your product. I am not exaggerating when I say this, but this was the easiest experience I have had with an audio product from a set up perspective. I went from turning the power on to listening to music in less than a minute. For this reason alone, I would recommend this product to a lot of people out there. I have an Android phone, so I can’t speak to the iPhone experience, but I would imagine it is pretty consistent. People, this is the easy button for Bluetooth audio device set up, period. I would recommend to Sony that you emulate this experience throughout your products. I answered one prompt during setup… DONE. About that sound I was for which I showed so much concern… What a waste of my time worrying about that. The clarity was flawless. I downloaded the Sony Music Center app to first set the audio for the XE300 and came to a quick resolution that there was no need. Sony has developed something called ClearAudio+ and it is phenomenal. I tried my own settings, and I couldn’t improve the sound over ClearAudio+. This was surprising to me to say the least. I have always set my own audio settings, especially for particular music genres. Not this time. The sound is clean and precise. My primary concern with the cylinder-shaped design and restricted openings was how it would affect the crisp details I like to hear in my music. Somehow Sony has done an admirable job at giving just that in a portable, disaster proof offering. Add to this a microphone for your standard communication and audio needs – calls, audio command services, etc – and you have a decent handsfree device as well. The XE300 can also be grouped with other Sony Bluetooth speakers using Party Connect. This allows you to really push your sound out further, or even create a stereo set up. I have a SRSXP500 and this feature works very well. I really like this thing! The XE300 is a very solid option for those looking for an all-day lasting, portable, disaster-proof option with terrific sound. Add to that ease of use, a solid hands-free experience, and some awesome features (battery care, voice response, standby settings) and you have one of the best on the market. Good job Sony!

design flaw

When I plug the dc power in the back to charge the speaker the plastic cover wants to close so it presses up on the plug bending it up. I can see over time the input being bent and breaking over some time.

You may also find different devices will perform better than others, as will different apps due to different types of audio compression and transmission. This was a huge disappointment. Not loud at all, even compared to the wonder boom which is half the size. It has less bass than the wonder boom. Even at a $30 discount, it wasn’t worth it.

The sound may become low in the following cases. This is not a malfunction. When the built-in battery is running low and the CHARGE indicator flashes slowly, while the speaker is being powered by the built-in battery only. When the rechargeable built-in battery is running low as a result of long-time use of the speaker at a loud volume even though the speaker was connected to an AC outlet by a USB AC adaptor (commercially available) or to a computer that comes equipped with a USB charging port. When the ambient temperature of the speaker is high.
If the sound becomes low while in use, follow the procedure below.
Turn off the speaker.
Charge the built-in battery sufficiently.

Best Bluetooth Speaker for 2022

I unboxed it and plugged it in the wall and connected the USB C power cord to the back. Then it was charging. I turned it on and it entered pairing. I went to my iPhone settings and connected and was able to stream music. Everything worked well. I further setup the Sony Music Fiesta app and it gave me options for sound profile, pairing other speakers, controlling lighting profiles. In the app you can control your music like on phone or Spotify so that makes things easy. Also, you can not use the app and just stream music from your device like any other Bluetooth source which is how I prefer it Sound Quality: I played with the clear sound profile and the manual Eq but unfortunately, I was not able to get a balance of bass from the mega bass vs no bass with mega bass off. I understand though since it Is Bluetooth, and the speakers are only so big. The biggest surprise is the separation of mids and tweeters which gives cleaner and louder sound. This really moved this device up a whole other level form the smaller previous gen Sony Bluetooth speaker. They were smaller but this is worth the trade of for a fuller sound. Speaker phone: I tried the speaker phone since that was unique to this category of device. I was told that the callers on the other side could hear their own voices and my voice was very faint. I tried to get close and at a normal 6’ distance and nothing helped. In a pinch I could see it working for a friend who calls in at a gathering where everyone would talk to them but for anything else I think there are many other options. Battery life. I found I was able to listen to it all day at work for 3 days now for 8 hrs and it still has not died. Also, I did charge my phone on the included usb ports while streaming for 3 hours. That is more than enough to go between charges for me. I think you could easily make a few days at the beach or camping without a power charger. Other: I liked the built-in handle which is nice. I like that it is waterproof and dustproof so if can really be used anywhere. I also like the lights on the side subs which as pizzaz without being too much. I also am not sure on the size since it is pretty wide which is fine but I cannot stand it on it’s side without covering one of the speakers. I think this is the most balanced Bluetooth speaker I have tested to date. Awesome job Sony.

The sound may also become low in the following cases. This is not a malfunction.
-While the speaker is running on power from the rechargeable built-in battery, the sound may become low in the event that the rechargeable built-in battery is running out of power and the CHARGE indicator flashes slowly. This, however, does not indicate a malfunction.
-When the ambient temperature of the speaker is high.
If the sound becomes low while in use, follow the procedure below.
-Turn off the speaker.
-Charge the built-in battery sufficiently.
