For optimum performance, make sure that the software version of the speaker is up-to-date. Please refer to this link for more information:

The overall volume may vary depending on the source content. Turn up the volume of the speaker and the connected device. Make sure to charge the built-in battery sufficiently. The sound may become low in the following cases. This is not a malfunction.

-When the built-in battery is running low and the CHARGE indicator flashes slowly, while the speaker is being powered by the built-in battery only.

-When the rechargeable built-in battery is running low as a result of long-time use of the speaker at a loud volume even though the speaker was connected to an AC outlet by a USB AC adaptor (commercially available) or to a computer that comes equipped with a USB charging port.

-When the ambient temperature of the speaker is high.

By downloading the Sony Music Center app, you will find all sorts of tools to fine-tune the speaker using the built-in EQ and maximize the volume to ensure optimal listening experience. You made find this link helpful:
