Sony quality sound that's highly portable
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I am so impressed with how Sony continues to reduce the size and weight of these portable speakers while continuing to improve the sound. At 1 lb and 9" long, the SRSXE200 X-Series is another well made portable speaker that is light enough to go anywhere, but loud enough to be used poolside. With the IP67 design, and charging port cover, I haven't had any issues with water or dirt impacting performance when taking this speaker camping, kayaking, or to the pool. In the box is the speaker with carry strap, USB-C charging cable, and manual. Setup is seamless, I pressed the bluetooth button, and within seconds a connection prompt appeared on my Android phone. Select connect and you're done. I did charge it fully out of the box, and have used it for 8 hours straight, and for a total of ~15 hours prior to the next charge. To get even more functionality, you will also want to install the Sony Music Center app. This allows for customized audio settings and controls the Party Connect functionality. The sound quality, especially for the size, is fantastic, and will fill a room with quality sound that has depth and tone at all ranges. The bass isn't overpowering and the treble isn't tinny due to the combination of Sony's Line-Shape Diffuser build and X-Balanced technologies. Other features to note are Echo Cancelling technology to allow multiple parties to speak using the speaker for calling. This supports clear sound from both people talking, and doesn't cut anyone off. I found the built in mic to be a bit limited on the distance it will pick up my voice, but this isn't my primary use for the speaker, and I consider this limitation to be minor. Another unique feature is the "Party Connect" option. From the app, this function allows for up to 100 Sony compatible speakers to be linked for large rooms, outdoor venues, and parties. Lastly, from the app, there is a Stereo Pair function that allows pairing of two speakers for stereo sound that provides portable sound for an immersive sound experience, or even movies. Overall the SRSEX200 gets a strong recommendation from my active family. To date, I have taken this speaker hiking, camping, sports events, to the lake and the pool, it has been dropped multiple times, accidentally kicked, and caught in a rain storm. No matter what happens, the speaker still performs well, can keep up with my activity level, and the sound cannot be beat from such a portable speaker!

Decent Device

Not the best range of sound but it's pretty good. There is no handle and it can be a little difficult to carry sometimes.

We're so sorry if you find the speaker volume doesn't get very loud. We want to make sure you are getting the most out of your speaker. By downloading the Sony Music Center app, you will find all sorts of tools to fine-tune the speaker using the built-in EQ and maximize the volume to ensure optimal listening experience. To get the most out of the volume, turn up the volume of the speaker and the connected device. You may also find different devices will perform better than others, as will different apps due to different types of audio compression and transmission.
• While the speaker is running on power from the rechargeable built-in battery, the sound may become low in the event that the rechargeable built-in battery is running out of power and the CHARGE indicator flashes slowly. This, however, does not indicate a malfunction.
• If the sound becomes low while in use, follow the procedure below.
1. Turn off the speaker.
2. Charge the built-in battery sufficiently.

Please try these steps to isolate and troubleshoot the issue.
-Check if the device is compatible with the Party Connect function. Devices compatible with the Wireless Party Chain function are not applicable for connection.
-Update the pre-installed software to the latest version on each and every speaker to connect for the function.
-Update “Sony | Music Center” to the latest version before setting up the Party Connect function.
-Make sure that all of the speakers to connect for the function are located within 1 m (3.2 ft).

I was sold on them because they were supposed to pair very easily, and could play as a stereo unit however, the pairing and connecting them to Bluetooth was always a challenge, and instead of getting easier and more difficult and after about a month almost didn’t work at all losing Reception from iPhone, 3 feet or less, and sometimes walking in between the speakers in the room seem to make them go out, which seems hard to believe they went out so much the last few days they were not working or not playing as much as they were playing often in the beginning after 10 minutes to pair them each time the sound quality was excellent but everything else is just not worth it, not for $150. There’s just too many options once you’re at that price point, if they work just got a piece it wasn’t worth it in the end because they were completely defective although they worked fine once paired for three or four weeks, but going off and then going on every five seconds is jet better to sit in silent.

Sony's SRS-XE300 speaker is a great solution with tons of great features offered to keep your party going, wherever you want to go. The SRS-XE300 is a mammoth device, measuring out at just under 10" tall and pretty hefty in weight. It has a unique, five-sided shape that is promoted to provide extra power and a more balanced clarity of sound. Most of the speaker is covered in a grippable rubber coating with a line shape diffuser that allows audio to be distributed evenly around a room and conserves sound quality. I did find myself accidentally pressing the buttons on occasion when picking up the speaker and moving it around, as the buttons are all prominently lined up on one side. It is water, dust, and shock proof to an extent, able to withstand everyday bumps - you can feel safe bringing this baby to a beach or poolside. Connecting via Bluetooth is quick and easy, and the Sony Music Connect app allows for hassle-free control and access to your mobile device's music and audio apps all in one location. And the battery life is pretty solid, with 24 hours of playtime after a full charge and a quick 70-minute play usage with a 10-minute charge. A nice feature is its battery care protection, which extends battery life span by stopping charges short of 100%. Sound and audio from this device is unsurprisingly crisp and full. It has a noticeable richness in bass tones and provides clear, distortion-free sound in all directions. I was a little underwhelmed by the actual max volume, however, as I had expected bigger sound from such a big device. With the SRS-XE300, you are trading loudness for clarity, which seems fair. Despite just a few shortcomings, the SRS-XE300 portable speaker is an impressive option. Its weighted, large size will withstand everyday usage, and it has the juice to last all day. It is easy to setup and pair, and its sound is rich and clear from all angles. Sony has another great speaker for you to get your hands on.
