Large sound: Loud and clear, plenty of bass

Impressed with the sound on this: Very clear sound at high volume. Bass packs a punch.
Design:
There is some heft to this speaker (Around 6 lb), so it comes with a clever rubber handle that completely retracts when not used. The bazooka shape of the speaker is entirely covered in a nice looking fabric, except on the edges of the tube which has the breathing holes (Passive bass radiator) and lights.
I'm no big fan of bright lights on speakers, and here is done in a very subtle way: The lights are not very bright, and disappear when off. They can be turned off from the control app or from a button on the back. It does give a pleasing effect.
The speaker is also water and dust proof (IP67).
Connections:
It has Multipoint Bluetooth and line in (3.5mm), charges with USB-C and includes the USB-C charger.
With Multipoint Bluetooth it can connect two devices (Like two phones or a phone and a computer).
On the back there is also a line-in (3.5mm) and a USB-A port so one can charge a phone while using the speaker.
Mics:
It has echo-canceling microphones so it can also be used as a conference speaker. I didn't have many expectations here but it actually sounds very good for phone or computer calls. I even recorded a voicemail to hear how it sounds and the audio is very clear with no echo.
Audio quality:
I couldn't find exactly which Bluetooth codecs it uses, so I ran the developer tools on the iPhone to find that it supports SBC (Standard), AAC and ALAC.
The iPhone Bluetooth process reads:
A2DP configured at 44.1 KHz. Codec: AAC-LC, VBR max: 256 kbps. 1 frames * (12+744) bytes = 756 per RTP (max=879) every 23.22 ms.
ALAC is Sony's proprietary High bandwidth codes up to 360 kbps. As far as I know it works with Sony phones and Sony TVs, etc.
The speakers fire up front, with excellent clarity and plenty of bass. The Sony Music Center app offers an equalizer. There is a 'Mega Bass' button that controls the amount of bass. This is similar to changing the equalizer settings.
Another interesting feature is that this supports connecting to other similar speakers for stereo sound (In which you'll want another matching Sony SRS-XG300 speaker) or more speakers for a large party. For multi-speakers they have to be similar Sony speakers, and the manual says that up to 100 (!!!) speakers can be connected. It needs the 'Sony Music Center' app to control this.
Battery:
In my tests, it lasted the whole party, with plenty of charge to spare…
Per the manual, Up to 25 hours at mid-volume with the lights off. 15 Hours with the lights on, and 4 hours at earth-shaking max volume with the lights off.
Apps:
Sony Music Center: This app is what most other Sony products use, is where one can control the equalizer, firmware upgrades and other power settings.
Fiestable: This is the 'party' app that controls the light show and helps pair the speakers and queue songs.
Overall it's a great speaker with rich sound and a great design. Not only an excellent party and outdoor speaker but something that one can use through the day with good speakerphone capabilities and line-in as well and multipoint Bluetooth.

Rugged ultra-portable outdoor speaker!

Compact, rugged, portable, and powerful Bluetooth speaker. It took less than 5 mins to set it up. Downloaded the Sony music center app to configure play lists, change audio settings and has option pair with a second speaker for party mode.
Pros:
It has an interesting line-shape diffuser design which allows sound to travel further out into the room, similar to 360-degree surround sound. I am comparing my XE300 experience with similar ones that I have and in the same price range. The first thing that stood out is its unique line shape design that distributed the sound uniformly in the room for live music experience. Crisp sound even at high volume with powerful base that doesn't muffle the audio. It boasts dual (top and bottom) passive radiators to enhance the bass in spite of its compact size and has "party connect" mode which allows another speaker to be paired.
It has a built-in mic with echo cancellation technology. I used it to answer a few calls. I had it connected to my laptop for a conference call and I was amazed by its echo cancellation technology - didn't have any complaints on echo or voice cutting out with several people talking at the same time. It allows two devices to be connected to the speaker at the same time and you can easily switch between those by hitting the Bluetooth button. I wish it came with noise cancellation feature for outdoor use.
IP67 rated, meaning its waterproof (1 meter for up to 30 mins) and doesn't get damaged if accidentally dropped in water. Robust design for outdoor use (withstands drops and bumps) and dustproof. Can't wait to take it to the beach!
Fast charging (10 mins charge gives you up to 70 min playtime) via USB-C port with battery care feature (prevents overcharging and increases battery life) and 24-hour playtime on a single charge. Has voice prompts to indicate the battery level when you press the battery button. It has a few other buttons to play/pause, volume control, mute, and power button.
Cons:
App can use some improvement - quick access to audio settings, customizable audio settings tab, etc.
Overall, I rate it 5/5. It has good sub-base (20 Hz- 60 Hz), average base (60Hz-250Hz), good low midrange (harmonics), and average upper midrange (timbre). Definitely rate it excellent on Presence (4k to 6k - clarity) and crisp voice even at high volumes with all day battery life!

Aesthetically, I find the synthetic fabric-textured cylindrical design quite pleasing. It looks premium yet rugged. I appreciate the buttons layout as they are easy to identify. The RGB radiators on the side have nice ambient and party lighting. If that’s not your deal, it can be turned off. The speaker balances well because of the robust rubber footings. Weighing more than 6.5 lbs., this speaker is not exactly as portable as one would expect. However, the very well-thought-out retractable handle addresses this quite effectively. I don’t think I would be carrying it in my hand or even in a bookbag while on a long hike, but to be fair, this speaker seems designed to be taken from place to place and enjoyed once settled down.
I worriedly tested the waterproofing by hosing the speaker while it was on, and I am relieved that the IP67 rating was accurate. I must say that it is amusing to see the water bouncing off the fabric and radiators.
Featuring Bluetooth 5.2 (great for futureproofing), it pairs easily. In fact, my Android phone immediately recognized it with Fast Pair. I walked around outside and did not experience disconnect issues until well beyond 30 feet. I’ve been using the unit for several hours, and I still only used 40%, which means that the battery 25-hour claim may be correct. Just in case, the speaker can be set to lower power-consumption for longer lasting battery, and I welcome the quick-charge feature via USB-C.
In case someone wants to connect without pairing, there’s a convenient 3.5mm jack in the back. Also, there is a USB-A charging port so that your device can last as long as possible.
Most importantly, I was impressed by the audio quality of the “non-circular” drivers and tweeters. The speakers can get loud fast. The sweet spot inside was about 30% and 60% outside. Inside, the sound was certainly warm, and bass oriented. However, the bass was tight and had a restrained impact. There was some sub-bass, but it was subtle. The midrange is a bit recessed, but still comes through giving vocals and rhythm instruments body and presence. The tweeters do a great job in defining treble without being harsh or distracting. There is really good channel separation allowing directional cues to be noticeable. Activating “Mega Bass”, I was pleasantly surprised that the bass did not become obnoxious while adding that sub-woofer feel.
Outside, the frequencies become a bit less clear, and bass can smudge things a bit. Nevertheless, the sound is still enjoyable and powerful. Keeping it real, most people do not care to listen to speakers critically while enjoying the great outdoors, or at a backyard party.
As a bonus, this speaker can be used as a communication device. This means that you can use this speaker on online meetings, personal, and family calls. I tried it and it worked well enough, although the people must be somewhat close and in front of the speaker. Another bonus is the ability to pair several XG300 together and create a parameter, or as a stereo sound system in your entertainment center. It’s quite nifty, but you’d need more than one speaker to take advantage of this and can get expensive.
The companion Music Center app is OK. It provides firmware updates, optimize and choose EQ settings, choose music apps, fine-tune power, illumination, etc. There is also the Fiestable app, which adds more options, motion control through the phone, and voice control. It’s kind of cool, but also kind of gimmicky.
Yes, this is more on the premium side. But once you turn it on and experience the sound it delivers, it immediately justifies the hefty price in my opinion. Plus, the speaker reminds me of those old-school 90’s boom boxes -minus the tape deck. Wish I had it last 4th of July!

Nostalgia Living Life Loud

On the box you have this statement: Live Life Loud. That is exactly what you get with the Sony XG300 Portable X-Series Bluetooth Speaker. I was intrigued at the shape of this speaker, the durability it presented, and most of all, the sound quality. After a week of heavy varied usages, here is my review:
This is a very fun addition to our life. We are busy with summer activities, work, and leisure time and sometimes we needed to take a break from headphones. Enter the Song XG-300. We were really impressed at the sound quality coming from this. It was such an enjoyable experience having this play our favorite songs, listening to what came up next. This speaker is very portable but still packs a powerful sound.
Now the MEGA BASS is another fun part to this speaker, a very nostalgic addition as it reminded me of my old Walkman and Sony CD Player from the 90’s. This was a very welcomed part of the listening experience that again, was reminiscent of having that deep and punchy sound.
Included in this fun experience are the Ambient Illumination. The sides have a very slim light that syncs with the beats of your songs, like a gaming computer keyboard. This can be controlled through the Sony Music App as well.
Equally impressive is the 25 hour battery life when fully charged. With the multiple usages of playing music and zoom calls, this has lasted all week. Again, the build quality is impressive when taking to the beach, poolside, zoom meetings, and work outs. Carrying it with us (retractable handle is great), this speaker does a lot.
Speaking about Zoom, this has what is called Echo Cancelling. What this does is allows two people to speak at the same time without either one cancelling the other. You can also connect two different devices at the same time through the Bluetooth.
Finally, the Sony Music Center app and the Fiestable app. These enhanced our music listening experience. Through the app you can change the DJ experience through fun adjustable sound qualities: orator, Flanger and CUstom EQ. The orator and Flanger is basically a grid where you can touch and the sound changes. I am still trying to figure this out, but the Custom EQ and the DJ Off have been the only things I have really paid attention to. When playing your music, your playlist from the Apple Music App populates and then you can enjoy your favorite songs. I even tried listening to Plays such as Hamilton and the sound was crisp and loud.
On the back of the speaker is a little compartment that offers you multiple ways of plugging it in via charging cables, audio cables, and light changes. There is a USB-A, USB-C and 3.5mm jack there for connections.
Overall, this has been such a joy to use and listen with. It really gives me that 90’s vibe and really enjoyable time.

The first thing you notice about the XG300 is how heavy it is. This thing weighs 6 pounds 10 oz and is only 12.5 inches wide but don't let the size fool you - this thing kicks!
Bluetooth pairing to my iPhone was as expected, quick and easy. The literature says the XG300 has fast pair - giving a one-tap connection for androids however, it doesn't have the NFC indication on it.
There are two apps for Sony speakers: Music Connect and Fiestable. Music Connect gives you basic controls along with sound customizations like bass and equalizer. Fiestable gives you the party connect and DJ features which are pretty cool - adding sounds and scratches to your music simply by shaking your phone and different swipes on your phone's screen. Party connect lets you connect multiple speakers together for larger areas or just more music at your gathering. You can also pair two units together for enhanced stereo sound.
But how does it sound? With it’s IP67 rating and solid build, it's clear this speaker is intended for outside, be loud and have kicking bass and it excels at all! As expected, the XG300 sounds best when it’s loud. Of course the bass kicks and the highs are crisp and it is loud enough to be heard over a gas string trimmer. It does a nice job at filling my back yard with sound and can be heard nicely from 100 feet away.
Like many previous Sony speakers, the XG300 has Ambient Illumination which is located at each end of the unit. The illumination is customizable and cute but difficult to see in anything but a dark room. Also, the black surrounding absorbs the minimal light - Sony should have used a metallic trip around the bass ports to reflect the light rather than absorb it. I just turn it off to increase the already great battery life. I have several Sony’s with this lighting and it's been underwhelming on all of them. Not a reason to buy this speaker - but a nice touch nonetheless.
Speaking of battery life, Ive been using this for several days and havent had to charge it yet. It’s rated for 25 hours and a 10 minute charge will get you another 70 minutes of play time. Charging is done via USB C and there is an included wall wart adapter. There is also a USB A plug to charge your phone as well as a line-in for non-bluetooth input.
As I mentioned, the XG300 is IPX67 rated which means it is designed to survive complete immersion should it fall into water as long as the cover over the ports is closed. I did it so you don't have to - yes, it will survive and it floats. See the pictures.
I really like the Sony SRS-XG300 and recommend it to anyone looking for a great sounding portable speaker for picnics and parties.

Perfect for Summer by the Pool
|

This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.
The Sony SRS-XG300 is almost the perfect pool side summer portable speaker. Why perfect the for the pool? Because it's IP67 rated, so it would even survive an accidental drenching/fall in the pool. The sound quality is amazing, deep rich bass (thanks to Sony Mega Bass) and great sound reproduction. The XG300 didn't distort, even when I pumped it up to full volume. At mid-to-high volume the bass diaphragm also has a satisfying vibration - which is just cool. The LED lights are cool, you can control these with the Sony app or behind the waterproof cover over. Behind the battery cover you will find a button to turn the LEDs off (so you don't have to use the app), a USB C charging port, and a USB A port that can charge an external device. I tested this with my iPhone, and it happily charged by iPhone while still pumping out music. The whole XG300 unit charges via USB C and there's a brick adapter included (5V 3A). Battery is rate at 25 hours, I didn't test this for 25 hours straight, but I did get a full day and early evening use without any issues. Overall, love the look of the Sony XG300, the soft textured design especially the retractable carry handle (see photos). The weight at about 6.5lb is acceptable, with the handle, it feels a little like those ghetto blasters you see in 1980's movies. Which I love! The only loss of a star is because it has to always sit horizontally. I know Sony makes smaller versions of this series that can sit vertically, but you lose playback time and sound quality - but just wish there were smarts in the speaker so it knew you wanted to stand it up and dynamically adjusted. It's a small issue, when the rest of the XG300 is awesome, but worth knowing it has to be used horizontal only. Either way, still love it and it's going to make our summers more fun.

Great sounding portable BT speaker from Sony
|

This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.
Small, powerful and exceeding what my expectations would be about it. Wow all I can say when my friends ask me to describe it. First, I call this speaker the "little brother" to my other Sony BT Speaker, the SRSXG500. Similar design, yet smaller profile but just as loud and powerful (minus the Mic and Guitar inputs). On a full charge, this beast can last up to 25 hours on a single charge.
Box itself contains the speaker, USB-C charger and a small quick start/warranty booklet. As I already own the above mentioned BT speaker also by Sony, I recommend downloading the Sony Music Center app and the optional Fiestable app as well. The Sony app itself is great itself as it shows a lot of info about the speaker, battery level, Library, Settings and the Audio In option if you wish to use it. Also in the settings there are illumination settings if you want to mess with the eye candy RGB rings, 100% customizable EQ for the people like me that have a personal Bass, Mid and Treble preference (this disables Mega Bass obviously) and other miscellaneous things like power off and system info.
The speaker is IP67 rated and better at being water resistant and dustproof than it's bigger brother. Just don't forget to always keep the back cover securely closed. I like how the fabric look itself looks and it repels water and dirt quite nicely. Also the carrying handle is flush with the top of the speaker and easily pops up so you can take it wherever you go.
BT pairing was as easy as it gets. As soon as I powered it on, the Sony app immediately recognized the XG300 and paired instantly. It grouped with my SRSXG500 to create a chain of speakers to enable stereo surround. The Fiestable app adds a little fun to the party by doing a party playlist, DJ controls, syncing the RGB to create a light show on the speakers and a neat Motion Control option. I love how I can tilt the phone to skip ahead or go back on tracks, rotate left or right to increase/lower volume.
Sound quality is amazing. That's it. Go buy one. Highs never got distorted with heavy bass. High to highest lever of bass never sounded like a muffled mess. Music sounded like music. Does it pass the Crab Rave test? With flying colors. Does classical sound like your in a concert hall? You know it (yes I play the Violin and Cello). Every type of music I threw at it, it took it and spit awesomeness back into my earholes.
This feature rich BT speaker is a hit in my book. I would recommend to anyone wanting a super portable party speaker than just sounds great.

Loving my new Sony SRS-XG300, Great for sounds on the go, perfect size not to big & bulky but not to small that it isn’t loud enough. Quick & easy Bluetooth set up, downloaded both recommended apps up to two people can connect & control the speaker. Has LED ring light on both side not to bright that it’s irritating it syncs to the beat of the music & you can also customize it through the Sony app. Also can turn it off if not wanted. Heavy duty handle that ricks away lays flat into the speaker. Waterproof & dust proof nice when around water at the river, beach, poolside. I use it at car shows, cruising in my classic car cause I don’t have a radio installed it was perfect you can hear the music clearly & loud, I loved that it’s also a charging bank it’s a USB-C charging for the speaker & USB-A to charge devices! No more dead phone when out all day battery life is 25 hours. But I always fully charged before headed anywhere. The second app called Fiestable allows you to create playlists, karaoke, voice control, motion control using your phone to raise & lower the volume, skip forward & back even pause just by tilting or rocking your phone different ways. With the Sony app you can set up sound, see who’s connected to the speaker & even connect & sync other speakers together surround sound effect. Has mega bass option on the speaker. All your music apps are listed in the Sony app, so no going back & forth looking for you apps. Really convenient. Couldn’t be happier.

Great portable speaker

Sony’s SRS series portable speakers are designed to have powerful sound anywhere you go. They produce a full-range sound and line-shape diffuser for the best wider listening area by spreading the sound further and wider to the sides. Contrary to similar speakers, which transmit the sound mostly when you are in front of the speaker. The sound gets correctly balanced, which produces a high-quality sound without distortion. The bass is acceptable. It is designed to make this truly portable to take anywhere (beach, pool, park, etc.) since it is water, sand, and shock proof. I get many listening hours at medium volume on a single full charge. Not sure how long it will last at total blast volume. It gets fully charged very quickly and comes with its own USB-C type charging cable. Note that it doesn’t come with a wall charger. I feel this is not an issue for most people since you can use a wall charger from your other devices (e.g., mobile phone). Using a standard wall charger for many devices is excellent for reducing production costs and, simultaneously, helping the environment—props to Sony designers for being environmentally responsible. With the Sony SRS series speakers, you can optimize your sound experience with the control Party Connect feature via the Sony Music Center app. If the speakers are of the same models, you can have one speaker play sound on the right side while another plays on the left side. The Music Center app has features to change the setting and play with your music. Overall, this is a good speaker; if you get more than one, you can experience the best sound through party connect.

At first I was pretty confused by the design of this XE300 portable bluetooth speaker from Sony. I couldn't quite figure out why anyone would design a speaker with such a tall and narrow driver. Was this a "directional" speaker? Wouldn't that limit the amount of sound that is output by the speaker to a very limited range? As it turns out, Sony very deliberately designed this speaker with it's new line shape diffuser technology. This would explain why the design choice initially seemed odd. After curiosity got the best of me, I did a bit of research. Sony's design choice was inspired by professional grade audio systems that are used at serious concerts. This design is supposed to help with distributing the sound evenly and wider to fill the empty space around you. After using this in various indoor and outdoor settings, I can attest that it does a phenomenal job of filling any room, or the space around you. The sound feels better dispersed with a greater range of coverage as compared to other current outdoor speakers that I've owned. I'm a big fan of the sound signature on this speaker. The mids are very clear and crisp. Very impressed with the vocals for a bluetooth speaker (listened to a lot of Diana Krall and it sounded amazing!). Even at full volume, the sound signature retains it's sharpness with no distortion. The bass is tight and punchy. Initially, I thought the bass was a bit lacking for an outdoor speaker but as I began to listen to different genres of music, I noticed that it was more than capable of producing a deep and punchy low frequency without sounding muddled. I think it's a very well balanced sound signature. It's not the best sounding outdoor bluetooth speaker I've ever heard, but it is the best sounding outdoor speaker I've heard in it's pricing segment. Also, I realized I could increase the intensity of the bass to my liking via the Sony music center app.
In terms of build quality, you can instantly tell it was designed to take a beating. I feel very confident knowing that it will survive multiple rough drops. Most the the body of the speaker is outfitted with a very soft and comfortable rubber lining. Sony made this an IP67 certified speaker. The moment you hold this in your hands, you can tell that it's fully waterproof, shockproof, and dustproof. Sony claims that it maintains it's operability when submerged upto a depth of 1 meter for 30 minutes. I left this floating in our pool for about 15 minutes playing music with no issues. I really like the rubber charging cut-out for the USB type-C port. Very easy to access and it has an outstanding seal. No water is getting through there!
There are quite a few features that I found to be incredibly useful while using this speaker. A lot of these features are usually not found in other outdoor bluetooth speakers. I've listed them below:
- 70 minutes of music playtime with a quick 10 minute charge
- 30 meter bluetooth range (My current outdoor bluetooth speakers do 15M!)
- Battery Care function (stops charging the battery just before it reaches 100% in order to increase the life span of the battery)
- Incredibly easy setup. Just by my bluetooth being on, my Android device instantly detected the XE300 without having to manually pair it
- Bluetooth version 5.2; This allowed for an extremely good bluetooth connection. During my week of testing, not once did I experience any sort of audio interruptions or noise
- Physical battery indicator button that audibly tells you how much battery you have left
- Phenomenal Audio EQ app; The Sony Music Center mobile app instantly detects the speaker, the app is very stable, and the EQ function is tuned well
- "Bluetooth Connection Quality" on Sony Music Center App. Allows you to prioritize the bluetooth connection for sound quality or for a more stable connection if you're in a noisy 2.4Ghz frequency environment
Overall, I think this is one of the best bluetooth outdoor speakers on the market in it's pricing segment. There are really only two minor cons I have. First, due to the somewhat large hexagonal shape of the speaker, it's a bit difficult to hold with one hand (for reference, I have medium to large hands). This is also compounded by the fact that it's a relatively heavy speaker. I would have loved to see Sony affix some type of unobtrusive waterproof handle on the back of the speaker where you can just slip your hand into. There's plenty of space on the back of the speaker to implement something like this. Not a huge deal but I think it would improve the portability experience. Secondly, you only get a measly 1.5 ft USB type-C charging cable. Luckily, with USB type-C being the current standard, people are likely to own multiple lengths of USB type-C cables. Other than those minor cons, I think beachgoers, pool junkies, or any outdoor weekend warriors will love this speaker. Not only does it produce some of the best sound in it's segment, but it's built to take heavy abuse. Buy with confidence, there's very little not to like.

As one of the best-known Japanese technology brands in the world, Sony’s vast product portfolio encompasses all sorts of highly-renowned electronics from top-of-the-line TVs to $20 corded headphones. It comes as no surprise that Sony was among the earliest to market with bluetooth-compatible boomboxes, later evolving into the ubiquitous bluetooth speakers we see everywhere today. The SRSXE200 Portable Bluetooth Speaker is their latest offering in the segment, acting as the entry level item among multiple new bluetooth speakers in the X-Series range. Despite its diminutive size, the SRSXE200 brings room-filling audio and power that’s as at home on the nightstand as it is next to the pool.
As with any review of audio equipment, my impressions of sound quality will be subjective. I’ve tried to present them as objectively as possible, but in any case, I highly recommend demoing the speaker in-person at your nearest Best Buy prior to purchase.
- Unboxing and Setup
Shipped in recycled cardboard with a cloth covering on the speaker and instruction pamphlets kept to a minimum, I applaud Sony’s choice of eco-conscious packaging here. All items are recyclable, which is a welcome sight to see.
The SRSXE200 is covered in soft-touch rubber and a cloth mesh, with the only opening being a small door that covers the USB-C charging port. This helps ensure it survives splashes or brief jaunts into the water, meeting the IP67 water-resistance rating. The speaker is pretty weighty at about 2 pounds - it’s far from the lightest speaker I’ve used but it feels very solid as a result. Buttons are clearly labeled and integrated into the soft-touch rubber - there’s a premium feel to the device overall.
Setup is as straightforward as can be - hold the Bluetooth button to pair and locate the speaker from your device’s bluetooth menu. The speaker allows for multiple active pairings, letting you seamlessly switch between devices as you go. It won’t allow for simultaneous playback, however - the most recent play command will take control of the speaker. The speaker also includes a microphone for conference calls, which is very handy. The only thing missing I could possibly ask for is a 3.5mm microphone port for legacy devices, but these are becoming fewer in number, and having an exposed port would likely compromise the speaker’s water resistance rating.
- Sound Quality
Sony has once again worked its engineering magic to deliver a shocking amount of volume and clarity from such a small device. Optimized for as grand a sound stage as possible to fill a room or patio with audio, the SRSXE200 brings serious audio power to any situation. Dual passive radiators are a major selling point for delivering a surprising amount of bass across a good distance.
Overall, the sound profile leans away from deep, boomy bass and compensates with strong response further up the band. Up close, the bass doesn’t get particularly deep and does take on a little bit of muddiness, but at a distance of more than a few feet it becomes clear that punchy bass was the goal. Bass notes are audible and clear at a long distance, which was particularly impressive at a small party. Even as we cranked the volume the audio didn’t distort, though as expected the bass response did fall off a little as the speakers, while strong, just aren’t big enough to deliver heavy bass at high volume. Mids and treble are crisp and clear at any distance, seemingly neutral on frequency response.
Of course, one thing you won’t get with a speaker this small is a wide soundstage. While multiple speakers are present, it’s unlikely you’ll experience any sort of stereo effect as there’s little space to recreate decent stereo separation. Again, Sony aimed for room-filling audio from the single device and they’ve done a good job at that. You can, however, pair two identical Sony bluetooth speakers together in “Stereo Pair” to allow the speakers to act as left and right channels independently.
The built-in microphone for voice calls works well enough. It doesn’t pick up from a far distance - you’ll need to be within a couple feet of the speaker to be heard clearly - but my callers said my voice was otherwise clear and conversation carried on normally without me raising my voice for the speaker to pickup. No complaints here.
- Connectivity and Battery Life
The Bluetooth range on the SRSXE200 is quite strong. I didn’t experience a disconnect from my phone until I was nearly past my neighbors’ house, over 100 feet away and through insulating walls. I never experienced a connection drop anywhere in my house or garage as I toted the speaker around with its carrying strap. All my devices with audio support had no issue finding or pairing with the speaker.
Battery life and charge times are excellent. 2-3 hours charging on USB-C will yield a full charge, which Sony quotes at 16 hours for this speaker. I haven’t run the battery down fully yet to verify the claim, but with a full weekend of standby and a few hours of audio playback I only dipped to approximately 60% charge (pressing the BATT button will announce current charge state in 20% increments). I can certainly see this going the full 16 hours of playback and then some - in my experience Sony does somewhat underrate their battery life.
Sony offers a feature called “Party Connect” which allows compatible speakers to synchronize their audio playback, creating a network of up to 100 speakers that can output the audio from a single device. I wasn’t able to test this as I don’t own any other compatible devices, but the prospect of having these spread about the house or patio for gatherings is a compelling feature I might embrace in the future.
- Bottom Line
The Sony SRSXE200 Portable Bluetooth Speaker delivers strong audio suitable for any environment. While bass response is on the weaker side, the volume and power on tap bring room-filling audio from a surprisingly compact device. An all-day battery and ubiquitous USB-C charging help keep the music going for hours on end, and the ability to connect multiple devices to the speaker and network said speakers with others for more grand audio setups is a huge boon. At $129 MSRP, Sony’s latest bluetooth speaker offering is priced right and fits pretty much anywhere. Recommended!

Big sounds from this small package

I'd like to say that I'm using this new Sony SRS-XE300 for myself - but my Daughter is a Senior on the school dance team and has commandeered the unit to practice dance! Definitely big sounds come from this small package - and she's loving it. It was extremely easy to pair to her iPhone, provide a great deal of sound, battery last forever (up to 24 hours) and since it's rugged and waterproof - you really can't go wrong! She charges it overnight about once a week.
The size is great for her duffle bag and light to carry around with no effort at all.
When it's at home and charging - she uses it as a speaker phone at her desk. It provide pretty good quality voice audio and appears to cancel and echo of the incoming speaker. The mute button is easy to access in case you need to put yourself on mute quick (like due to the dog, UPS man, etc).
Overall - I recommend this bluetooth speaker if you're looking for a rugged and portable device. Download the Sony apps to gain access to addition special effects and sounds too! Lastly - although I only have one - if your friends buy one as well, you can use Party Connect to link up to 100 of these devices together. That would be mind blowing!

Long Lasting Battery In A Great Sounding Speaker

The XE200 Wireless Bluetooth Speaker By Sony is a very compact little sound powerhouse.
It can provide up to 16 hours of audio entertainment when paired to your android or iPhone.
Like some other speakers it can be daisy chained to other compatible speakers to play music through all of them in complete synchronization to provide a genuine party like environment for you and your friends at nearly any type of gathering.
The XE200 has a Line-Shape Diffuser speaker system that will pump out music to a full 180 degrees giving full sound even to the sides of the speaker, not just to listeners directly in front of the speaker or speakers as the case may be.
And its dual passive radiators at the ends of the speaker add a degree of depth to the bass reproduction you can feel in your bones.!
It is very lightweight and easy to take along nearly anywhere.!
Don't worry about if you should pack it along on camping trips, hiking expeditions or a day by water.
Its IP67 waterproof, dustproof and shockproof design gives it the versatility of coming along on nearly any adventure you have planned.
I do wish it had the ability to be used to charge other devices when out and about like some others but it doesn't do that.

SONY - XG300 PORTABLE X-SERIES BLUETOOTH SPEAKER - BLACK
MODEL:SRSXG300/B
HEADLINE:
WOW – FANTASTIC SOUNDING PORTABLE SPEAKER – BEST I’VE HEARD
OVERVIEW
I’ve reviewed and owned lots of speakers and when it comes to audio, I am very picky. The SONY - XG300 is easily the best portable speaker I’ve owned. It faithfully reproduces music at all levels (high, medium, low), and all volumes. The price is not for the faint of heart, but if you want fantastic sound quality, you are going to have a dig a little deeper into your wallet.
I tested a variety of music types and formats, and in different rooms and outside. The SONY - XG300 really delivers well in all situations.
It is by default very bass forward, even with Mega Bass turned off, but because the app allows for basic Custom EQ settings, you can easily tune the base, middle, and treble to your own preferences.
I happen to like good punchy bass as long it is not muddy (which it is not), and the other levels are not distorted.
The app itself it easy to download, and install, and lets you control the lights, sounds, audio inputs and more.
The control buttons are large and easy to use.
I like that the lights are subtle and not over the top crazy flashing. You can turn them completely off if you want or just let them give a soft glow, or various other modes.
The SONY - XG300 has a large battery (up to 25 hours), and a quick charge feature. It also lets you charge your phone at the same time via an USB-Type A charging port.
I really like that it is powered by a USB-C connector to charge the speaker. No need to carry around extra chargers if you already have a USB-C power source handy.
It is also water resistant. While I would not dunk it in the pool, you should be able to have it around the pool, beach, boat without any worries.
The speaker itself is pretty heavy (like a brick), but it has a nice heavy duty handle that tucks away, when not in use.
Overall it a great performer, and well thought out.
SETUP
There is not much to set up. Turn it on, most modern phones will auto-pair the Bluetooth connection and you are good to go. You can also download the Sony Music Center App, for even more control. Everything worked perfectly.
There is a recessed panel in the back that you open for charging in case you want to top off the battery before you grab it and head to the beach.
SUMMARY
I fully 110% recommend the SONY - XG300 for anyone who does not want to compromise sound quality for portability.
