      Hi GeorgeC,

We're so sorry if you find the speaker volume doesn't get very loud. We want to make sure you are getting the most out of your speaker. By downloading the Sony Music Center app, you will find all sorts of tools to fine-tune the speaker using the built-in EQ and maximize the volume to ensure optimal listening experience. To get the most out of the volume, turn up the volume of the speaker and the connected device. You may also find different devices will perform better than others, as will different apps due to different types of audio compression and transmission.

      • While the speaker is running on power from the rechargeable built-in battery, the sound may become low in the event that the rechargeable built-in battery is running out of power and the CHARGE indicator flashes slowly. This, however, does not indicate a malfunction.
      • If the sound becomes low while in use, follow the procedure below.
      1. Turn off the speaker.
      2. Charge the built-in battery sufficiently.

A large but Very Nice Portable Speaker System

The Sony XG300is a very nice portable speaker system. This system is capable of battery powered use for and estimated life of up to 25 hours. The system is designed to be run via Bluetooth but does include a 3.5mm audio in port. Additional ports include a USB C-based Charging port, a USB-A type port that is for charging other devices. These ports are housed behind a door on the unit’s “rear” side that also includes a battery care button that is intended to prevent the battery from being full charged to extend its lifetime, and a light port to control of the lights on the ends of the device are used. When closed, the door helps to provide the unit with its IP67 Waterproof and Dustproof capabilities. Additional controls on the front of the unit include the power button, the Bluetooth pairing button, a mega bass setting button, the play/pause/answer button, and the volume controls in the form of a – button and a + button. Physically the system weighs approximately 6.61 lbs. (3 kg) and measures 25.5” x 5.4 “ x 5.35” (318mm x 138mm x 136 mm). The unit is mostly cylindrical in shape and has a carrying handle on the top and feet on the bottom to prevent it from rolling. General Features: The features of this speaker system are excellent. This system consists of two tweeters and two woofers in a L/R stereo configuration. The system does provide very loud sound when the volume is turned up and at about 60% of full volume it starts to get a bit too loud – which means that the system can produce sounds for quite a good distance allowing it to be used as a main speaker at an outdoor party. Audio Features: The system’s modes of operation are primarily Bluetooth (version 5.2 in the 2.4 GHz band), and audio in. In each of the modes the sound is of excellent quality and volume. The unit does have LED light rings on the ends that can be used to add lights to the music. The lighting settings can be controlled from the Sony Music Center application that is compatible with the speaker unit. The fact that this device has a speaker phone feature was a bit of a surprise. The microphone can pick up a person speaking from at least 15’. The speakerphone function also has Echo cancelling technology that allows for multiple people to talk at the same time without on getting cut off. The Multipoint connections functionality allows for two devices to be paired at the same time. App Features: The system can connect to and be controlled from Android and iPhone devices using the Sony Music Center application and/or the Sony Fiestable application – which is oriented at the Karaoke/dance party possibilities with the system. With the Sony Music Center application one can control each of the audio modes, stream music from your phone, and control the speaker at distance. Usage Impressions: The system is a very nice speaker system. I tested with many tracks that are suggested for audio system testing and the system sounded well throughout. My wife did comment that the default Mega Bass on setting changed the voice of the singer on one of her songs that I played for her. With this setting off the singer sounded better. The Bluetooth nature of the system makes is very flexible. While much of my testing was done via my cell phone; a Bluetooth enabled projector would pair very nicely with this system and between the projector and the speaker system one could have a nice tailgating setup or an entertainment system whole camping or RVing. Pros: Sound, battery life, pass through charging, App control Neutral: Portability – it is a bit hefty for a portable speaker and its larger than most Cons: Price

I have wireless earbuds I love when I am on the go outside. To avoid damaging my hearing indoors, I decided to get a speaker I could carry around with me from room to room as I get ready in the morning, cook, clean, etc. I also wanted the bring the speaker outside when I sit on the porch, do yardwork, or clean the garage. I do presentations for work, and I like to bring a portable speaker since my laptop can’t project sound too far. The XB200 has checked all these boxes. Advantages: • Super-fast pairing to my Android phone with Bluetooth. • Up to 16 hours of playing time. A quick charge of 10 min gives you another 70 mins of music. • Great for the outdoors. You don’t have to worry about the weather as it is IP67 water resistant and dustproof. The shockproof design is great if it gets dropped or is knocked over. • The line-shaped diffuser allows for a wider listening area. • Powerful bass (dual passive radiators) and crisp sound. • The strap is great for portability (when carry other items) or to hang from a hook to keep it out of the way and project. I adjust it and slide it over my shoulder like a purse to keep it out of my way and so it doesn’t bang into anything else. • It is ergonomically shaped, so it’s easier to grab and hold. I really like that the design is vertical. • With the Sony music app, you can connect to others with the party app. The app has some cool effects. • Microphone has echo cancelling and MIC mute button. I was in the kitchen making dinner and talking on the phone through the speaker. It was nice I could mute my mic when I used a loud appliance. Drawbacks: • Does not come with an AC adaptor (sold separately). Just USB-A connection. Can’t charge from my laptop which only has USB-C plugs. • No stereo mini jack in. I would have like to connect with other devices. • Does not automatically turn off if not being used. That is a big minus in my book. • To connect with the party app, the speakers must be compatible X-series speakers. I happen to have the XB31 and XB90. They were not on the list, but I am hoping they connect. For the ways I plan to use the speaker, this size is fine as is the price. The XE200 works well for my needs. If you want a bigger sound to fill a bigger space with a lot more people, I’d suggest getting a bigger speaker, such as the XE300 or XG300.

I've had JBL speakers all my life, specifically the charge series and it's about the same size as the speaker so I decided to buy this for my girlfriend since her speaker wasn't working. When we tested it out I noticed that although my speaker has been probably 4 years old(Charge 4) now and it still had more fullness in bass and sound clarity than the Sony speaker although they were in the same price range.

Great sound in a lightweight, waterproof package

I’ve been a long-time fan of Sony audio products and this product continues to deliver on the same great quality with a lightweight, durable, and great-sounding speaker…especially for the price. Rather than a round cylinder which most speakers like this opt for, they went with a 5-sided, pentagon shape which I tend to like as it won’t roll off a table if it were to tip over. The other advantage of this 5-sided design is that you have options if you do want to lay it on it’s side. I found the audio quality to be quite good in either orientation, whether it’s standing straight up or laid on one side. One thing to note here though about audio quality is that even though it has a 5-sided design, it doesn’t necessarily emit sound in all directions. Most of the sound can be heard from about 270 degrees around the speaker but the back portion tends to be weaker. The speaker itself is made from a combination of rubberized silicon for most of the speaker which is nice and grippy so it won’t slide of a surface and the rest is made up of fabric which covers the actual speakers. It’s a very classy look for being a durable speaker that has an IP67 dust and water resistant rating. I like that this speaker is lightweight and I appreciate the size, but for being their smallest speaker in their XE lineup, it’s not a super small speaker by any means, but it’s still very lightweight. Battery life is very respectable with up to 16 hours on a charge and I found that to be pretty accurate, even with my listening habits being probably louder than most. Sound quality is surprisingly good for a speaker of this size where it has a balanced sound profile out of the box where everything is crisp and clear even at high volumes. One thing I found interesting was the range of this speaker in regards to how far away you could hear the sound. One night, I had the speaker on one end of my house in the kitchen which is a good 50-75 feet away from my bedroom and I mistakenly thought the music was coming from my much bigger soundbar. One thing that Sony die-hards may miss though is what was seemed to be always found on Sony speakers - the Mega Bass button. Being a huge fan of Sony products, this almost seemed like it wasn’t even a Sony product without it, but I have to say that the sound profile is nice and balanced - certainly less bass than a Sony speaker with mega bass enabled but more bass than that same speaker without. So they seemed like they split the difference and found a balance without having that “turbo” mode. However, there is a customizable equalizer that you can access with their Music Center app - works great for customizing the sound profile but that one-touch mega bass button was also nice, although a lot of the times that mega bass button may have been a bit too strong. The other thing missing from this speaker is an auxiliary port which I suppose may be a sign of the times of everything going wireless, but just something to be aware of. One thing that I loving about Sony products that have been released in the last few years is that their packaging is nearly all recyclable carboard - it’s a nice touch and makes you realize how much un-recyclable materials some other companies use. Overall, another great Sony audio product.

Premium Bluetooth speaker with great sound

The Sony XG300 Bluetooth speaker is a great sounding Bluetooth speaker with decent portability and extra features that are more “party”-friendly. Right off the bat, the speaker follows Sony’s design and build-quality standards. Every material and surface looks well designed and put together. Picking it up I could feel that this was built to last. Design is sleek and modern looking. The whole thing is cylindrical on its longer side. The circular CD-like ends look cool with the ambient lighting. Majority of the surface is clad in a cloth like material and seems to be IP67 waterproof rated. However, unlike some other speakers I have this does not float in the water (at least I couldn’t tell from the specs/manuals). As for portability, the speaker unit has a built-in handle that folds into the body when not needed, providing a clean look. However, the speaker is on the heavier side - I myself was not comfortable with carrying around with my hands after a few minutes. Another issue was since the whole speaker is completely circular and only has 2 flat rubber feet to keep it stable, there were instances when the whole unit rolled off when resting on a narrow surface. And since it’s not a light item, I was always wary that it’ll fall on my toe. Now for the most important feature: sound quality. That’s very subjective, but personally I am enjoying the sound for my everyday music listening, which includes a lot of metal, rock, and ambient. Also I listen to podcasts at other times. And all in all the sound is rich, with a bass heavy feel without being overwhelming. There’s a “Mega Bass” button that dials the bass up to 11, but I have rarely used it. With my Android phone, I used Sony’s LDAC codec which technically has higher fidelity than regular SBC/AAC and even aptX, and I think that provides a bit of an advantage to the XG300 compared to its competitors. Sony also touts that the speakers have “X-balance technology” that is superior. I can’t make a one-to-one comparison with that, as mentioned overall sound quality is very good. The Sony Music Center app provides some functionality that enables more control compared to what can be done with the 7 buttons that are on the speaker, but I have not found them to be essential. As for the 7 hardware buttons: along with the conventional power, Bluetooth pairing, play/pause, volume up and volume down buttons, there are two more buttons hidden inside the back compartment (under the watertight flap) that tells the battery level, and turns the LED ring lights. It also has a “battery saver” mode that apparently caps the charging to 90% to improve long-term battery life. As for battery life, it’s rated for 25 hours on a single charge, and my regular use supported that. However, I had the LED lights turned off for most of the time. The Bluetooth speaker has a microphone to take calls, and has built-in echo cancellation technology. I didn’t find call quality to be exceptional - people on the other end could hear me quite fine with no noticeable distortion, but it’s not the clearest microphone out there. Overall, even though the Sony XG300 is not a cheap option compared to other speakers out there, the sound is really good and the design is sleek and unique in some sense. It’s placed in a more premium/upgrade price point and if you’re in the market for that, it’s worth considering.

      Hi AmberD,

While we're glad that you like most of the features, we're so sorry if you find the speaker doesn't get very loud. We want to make sure you are getting the most out of your speaker.

Is a good speaker but is big and heavy and thr sound is not the greatest. Next to the smallest Sonos speaker, the Sonos sounds 100 times better .

The Sony SRS-XG300 Portable Bluetooth Speaker is great for listening to music on the go and at home. The speaker has a tube like design. With that in mind, you don’t have to worry about it rolling around because they design it with 2 feet that’s located underneath the speaker which keeps it stationary. The speaker was easy to setup and pair. The instruction manual does not have any text, but the illustration and number guide is easy to comprehend. To get the most out of the Bluetooth speaker you will need to install the Sony Music Center and the Sony Fiestable app. The apps are easy to find because they have QR codes for both iOS and Android on the packaging box as you unpack the speaker. I also like how it it prompt me to download the apps with the download links after I paired it to my iPhone. The speaker is made of plastic with a nice rubber carry handle. It’s also covered in a nice woven fabric type material. The handle can be easily popped up for carrying, and. pushed back down to lay flat when not needed. The speaker is also IP67 dust and waterproof, with all day battery life. The sound quality is really good. You can make it sound even better choosing audio presets from the Sony Music Center app, as well as customizing your own sound using EQ sliders. You can also change the color of the speaker lights, the light pattern, or completely turn off the lights using the app. The speaker has an AUX line in for use with non-Bluetooth devices. It also has a USB-A port if you’d like to plug a USB cable into the back of the speaker to charge up your cell phone, tablet, or other small devices. The speaker is great for taking it to the pool, beach, picnics, etc. It does have some weight and size to it. It’s not the type of speaker that you can throw in your bag. The instructions also show that it can be paired with another SRS-XG300 speaker, as well as some other Sony speakers for an impressive sound experience. Unfortunately, I could not get that feature to work. I tried creating a group with the Sony SRS-XG300 and my Sony SRS-XB31, but it kept giving me an error. After numerous attempts I gave up. The speaker has push button controls located on the speaker. They all work fine, but if I was Sony I would make one change. That would be not having the Play/Pause button used for forward and reverse functions also. If someone at your party wanted to change to the previous track or go back to the next track, there’s no forward or revers button. You have to press the Play/Pause button 2x to go forward, and 3x to go back. There’s plenty of room on the speaker to add those buttons. It’s not like they were cramped for space. The speaker can be charged via a USB-C connection. The speaker includes a power brick with an attached USB-C cable, so you don’t have to worry about trying to find a charger for it. Overall, I’m enjoying this speaker and hope to get a lot of years of use from it.
