Sony brings some impressive, room filling sound in this medium sized portable speaker. Out of the box it works wonderfully but the lows are something left to be desired. Some tweaking with the EQ in Sony’s Music Center app certainly helps but I feel the best use for this speaker is without trying to drive lower notes too much. Although, I suspect that with some breaking in time the drivers will sound better. Regardless of what you are playing, this speaker can fill a room with high-quality low-level sound. The rugged outer shell provides an excellent grip on the unit. Taking it from my desk as a desktop speaker/intercom for meetings to my backyard to either continue a meeting or just to listen to music or news is flawless. And I don’t need to worry about it getting wet from a sprinkler or a hose while I’m out there with its impressive IP67 waterproof rating. Said rating allows for submersion of this speaker under 1 meter of water for 30 minutes. I don’t recommend testing this, but it is nice to know just how much water it can take on without getting damaged. That is well within the operating environment I plan to use this in.

I love it and it was delivered quickly. I'm normally a JBL girl but I do like this unit. I have a JBL Xtreme and they are comparable in volume and performance, but this Sony is more lightweight. The handle retracts so that's a nice touch. I played it on the beach 8 hours straight and it held up well. The picture is next to a 12 oz can for size.

It is a very well made speaker! Durable, battery lasts a good time but it does not sound too good. Volume is not too loud either! I used it at the beach and while battery lasted, the volume at some point was not loud enough, I didn't want to start a party or anything, but with the waves, people around with other speakers and just the noise around us, I really think this speaker could be louder, also, it is on the bigger side, still very portable! But for the size, I was expecting more battery and volume (also quality). This are not game changers! It is an awesome speaker! I am just telling my experience.

This is a very impressive speaker. Sound is surprisingly great in such a tiny package. Some cool things I like. Well for one the talk of the line shape diffuser, it is widely known to be used in professional concerts and I’m no music expert but the sound that comes out of this thing is surprising and very balanced. Both bass and tremble sound great. Distortion free. Battery: well it comes with a usb-C to charge and promised up to 24 hours of battery life on a single charge although I have not tested battery life. I will say that the USB-C did charge this thing super fast. Portable: very light and has a strap or stray for carrying. This thing feels extremely durable and it can take a beating. It has a nice color to it matte black with some dark grey coloration on the speakers. IP67 water dust and shock proof which again adds some value to some that might beat up their toys. If you are gonna use this for an online meeting it has echo challenging technology which from my understanding will help not cut each other off. I do plan on using it for some zoom meetings (iPhone paired with the XE200. Just a very good sounding product

    Nice Portable Bluetooth Speaker

Nice simple packaging, this is an open, charge, Bluetooth connect (easy connection), download the Sony Music app, and you have music and a connection to your phone calls! Great looking speaker with a nice retractable handle on the top. The SRS-XG300 is heavy and appears to be very well built. A charging port, USB port, and an audio in port, are located on the back of the speaker, nicely concealed and protected with a solid rubber type cap. A battery check button and light button are also located inside the cap. The Sony SRS-XG300 started out poorly, not sure why. Sound quality started out with a muffled sound and a slight distortion. I moved the speaker to a new location and the next attempts at listening to music were excellent. Sound quality was/is incredible, very clear and clean crisp sound. The base is solid both with and without the MEGA BASE activated. Low volume is exceptional however on high volume I noticed a slight distortion with the high notes. I returned the speaker to the original place I first attempted to play music and the speaker functioned with great sound. Not sure what the start-up issue was, possible interference from other devices in the kitchen. The reference guide to the Sony SRS-XG300 states not to leave the unit in an extremely cold or hot environment and displays a range of 41 degrees F – 95 degrees F. With our temperatures exceeding 95 degrees F daily it will be hard to use the speaker outside. Lights, the speaker has a ring of light located on either end of the speaker and they can be turned on or off using the Sony Music Center app or the button located in the back speaker panel. Not sure what I think of the lights. Using the app, you have multiple settings for the lights however I did not find the functionality of the lights in sync with the music. And most of the setting are accent lighting which may be nice in a darker setting. Not sure that I care for the phone connection with the Sony SRS-XG300. If you’re sitting alone and listening to music, it’s OK. I received a call and I had to turn the volume up a great deal higher to hear the caller and at the end of the call I had to quickly turn the volume down when the speaker automatically resumed with the music. If you have your phone set for notifications or alerts you may have an issue with the volume. If you’re listening to music and you receive a phone notification, you’ll hear a slight momentary change in the speaker volume. At a low speaker volume, you may not notice the speaker volume change. You can toggle the phone call feature on or off, in your Bluetooth settings on your phone. The SRS-XG300 has a DJ Effect you can play with to adjust an Isolator or Flanger sound. Not something I’ll use but might be fun for someone else. You also have a good range of options to adjust the sound to your liking. I connected the Sony SRS-XG300 to an Amazon Echo so I could pick the music and adjust the volume with my voice through the Echo device however the volume was compromised severely, and I chose to unpair them. For the price the Sony SRS-XG300 is an excellent choice.

    Sony Sound Meets Boring Design

I enjoy listening to music, usually with headphones, but sometimes on a speaker as well. I’m still rocking a bluetooth speaker from 2017, so when I got a chance to review the new Sony SRS-XE300 I got pretty excited. Keep reading to see my thoughts on it! Appearance: The XE300 looks kind of like a monolith. Yeah, the gray color I received it in makes it even a little more boring than it already looks, but let’s just say that this speaker isn’t going to turn any heads. There are no RGB lights or any other standout features, but it’s not exactly ugly either. Its sharp lines definitely make it look futuristic and I think it’ll blend in with just about any decor. Build Quality: Weighing about 3lbs, this speaker is almost twice as heavy as my last bluetooth speaker and built really solidly. I absolutely love how substantial it feels. The outer layer is a type of waterproof plastic and rubber. The speaker is IP67 rated for dust and is also waterproof. Sony has also drop tested the unit and says it’s really rugged. I will not be throwing my speaker on the floor voluntarily, so I’m going to take Sony’s word on this one. Sound/Microphone: This mid-size speaker pumps out some fantastic sound. Sony advertises that the XE-300 has a line-shape diffuser, X-Balanced speakers and dual passive radiators. So, what does that all mean you might ask? I have no idea, but what I can tell you is that the unit pumps out some very accurate and solid sound. This is not a 360 degree unit though, the sound definitely emits from the front of the unit only as that’s where the speakers are situated. I have a decent sized yard and it filled the entire backyard with my tunes. I didn’t notice any treble distortion when playing Rage Against the Machine or any weirdness with the bass when listening to the new Kendrik Lamar album. The sound at max isn’t quite as loud as I’d like it to be, but my hearing isn’t the best. This speaker will definitely fill most homes and backyards very well, but a big party might drown the music out and I would suggest a bigger speaker for large gatherings. Placing a call was easy and the other end said I sounded fine. Sony advertises that the unit has a noise canceling mic, which is a great addition in case you do need to take a call with this speaker. I’m not sure how many people would actually be using this unit in this way, but I had to test it out of curiosity. Connectivity/Ease of Use: Connecting to bluetooth works just like any other device you’ve ever connected to your phone or tablet. Sony does have its Music Center app that you can download in order to fine tune some of the speaker’s settings and equalizer, but you can totally use the speaker without ever downloading the app. The device supports 2 devices being paired at the same time, which is great as my wife and I don’t have to repair every time we want to use the device with our own phones. The app does allow you to configure some advanced sound settings and battery settings, but overall there’s nothing stopping you from using the unit without the app. You can adjust the volume, mic and change the battery mode right on the device itself. There is a stamina mode that adjusts settings to maximize battery life and a mode you can set on the app that stops the battery from charging to 100% in order to preserve the health of your battery as well. USB-C connectivity is nice as most of my devices are now using this as a standard. Finding new devices still using micro-USB is disappointing, so I’m glad Sony didn’t go that route. One complaint is that for a relatively expensive speaker that advertises the ability to quick-charge, you do not receive a quick charger in the box. This omission is unacceptable in my opinion because of its price. You do receive a USB-A to USB-C cable, but it’s up to you to find a charger that supports quick charging to take advantage of this advertised feature. Overall Impressions: Listening to music on the SRS-XE300 is a joy. It may not turn heads visually, but will definitely perk up some ears with its sound. You’re getting premium quality sound that will fill the majority of spaces with this speaker and I don’t think anyone will be disappointed with that. My only gripe is that Sony doesn’t include an actual charger with this premium unit that advertises quick-charging as a selling point.

First I must disclaim that I’m a long time Sony fan, particularly in video, and have owned multiple ES higher end sound systems over the past two plus decades. Their expertise has traditionally been electronics, and not particularly speaker design, so I wasn’t sure what to expect from this XE200 portable Bluetooth compact speaker. Unboxing and setting up was a breeze, enable and tether to Bluetooth and voila, up and running in minutes. There is guided tutorial in the Sony Music Center app with settings to optimize and EQ sound to taste. You can also add in Spotify, Tidal and YouTube music. Curious how Pandora didn’t make the cut, perhaps future upgrade or licensing dispute?? With Sony’s new line shape diffuser this speaker does not project sound in a 360 degree bubble as per say an Apple HomePod, but instead is very directional. Placed on the corner of the pool rim I noted slight modifications to the projected angle made a fairly impactful difference in the sweet spot. I really would have liked to test this in stereo mode for more even dispersion. At the far end of the 30 foot pool I still had good decent sound, however as my ear approached the unit, the sound was much louder, indicating a fairly steep decay over distance, likely more than typical -6db to my untrained ear. The directionality can be advantageous however since ppl behind the speaker typically don’t want to be blasted with sound. It’s also worth nothing that the Sony Music Center app has a setting for “priority on sound quality” that did seem to make a discernible difference in my testing. I tended to keep Dynamic Normalizer off, but did prefer the DSEE HX which upscales compressed or CD-quality to high-resolution audio. Pros + excellent sound for small form factor + bass output impressive + X-balanced line shape diffuser + dual-passive radiators + better audio than JBL Link Music + IP67 water-proof (rubber usb cap secured) + water-proof controls for wet hands operation + great to sit beside the pool without worry + Sony Music Center app imports Apple Music playlists Cons -lacks midrange and top end detail -less robust than Denon Home 150 -lacks HEOS or similar music service -lacks Apple AirPlay 2 (bluetooth only) Conclusion Perhaps I was a bit unfair to compare this “wireless” unit, to a more expensive Denon Home 150 “wired” device (that is NOT water-proof). Since I’m already ensconced in the HEOS ecosystem I had hoped to be able to position these around the 4 corners of the pool, and link into the same source. This product would really shine if starting a portable (or permanent) outdoor audio system, with the addition of the larger unit with more bass. The wide dispersion pattern would allow 4 of these to provide all coverage. Additionally as a “pool speaker” the inclusion of echo cancelling microphone means you can answer calls without racing to dry your hands and unlock your phone, something the more expensive Sonos systems do not offer. Verdict : Buy

      Hi TechReviews,

Thank you for taking the time to write such an in-depth review of your experience with your SRS-XE200 speaker. We're truly glad you appreciate most of the features of this speaker. It's good to hear you like the excellent audio, newly developed X-Balanced Speaker Unit, Line-Shape Diffuser, IP67 rating, and you're utilizing the difference functions and built-in eq on the Sony Music Center app. It is a Bluetooth only model. Unfortunately, it does not support Apple AirPlay. We personally love the Stereo mode and encourage everyone to try it out. With Stereo Pair, you can connect two speakers wirelessly for an epic stereo sound.

The XE200 is designed more around portability rather than trying to get sound all around the speaker uniformly. Both of the XE200s speakers are facing the same direction so you can get true Left/Right separation like the artist intended. And with the Line-Shape Diffuser, the sound spreads further to the front area of the speaker, allowing you to enjoy the same sound quality whether at the front or to the side of the speaker. This means everyone in your venue can dance to the same music, feeling the same sound quality. Plus, it's lightweight and has a handy strap, meaning that you can take your music wherever you go.

Thank you for trusting Sony! Your loyalty means everything to us.

I bought two Sony XE300 Bluetooth Speakers to create stereo sound to use with my computer. These speakers are crystal clear and make music and movies sound spectacular on my computer and on their own paired with my iphone. The speakers really do have a 20 hour battery life. Set up and customization is easy using the app. Of note, I originally planned to buy JBL speakers, but when I heard the Sony speakers, I couldn't believe the difference in quality and had to get the Sony speakers. The larger Sony XG300 was actually the first Sony speaker I listened too. It sounds amazing too and I would have purchased it if I hadn't been looking for computer speakers because it has more kick and a "bass booster".

For the size and price this is a great speaker. Its more than enough to fill a bedroom, living room, or kitchen and the sound quality is good. The bass is good as well the only thing I can nitpick is at full volume it does lose a tiny bit of clarity but overall I really like this speaker. The battery life is also good, it pairs easily and its super portable, I would buy it again.

Couldn’t wait to un box the new Sony SRS-XE300. Plugged it in to fully charge and quickly downloaded the recommended music center app with ease. Cosmetically I like the look of the speaker especially with the cloth seams. Okay, now that it is fully charged, let’s talk about the sound. I used this for multiple applications, so let me start with the use of the call/voice pairing. I took a few calls from it and sounded very clear with no echoing. Next was the true sound quality test for music. A couple good things would have to be the improved base quality and the ability to not hear any distortion as I increased the volume to max volume. Unfortunately, I felt the highs in this speaker did not sound as crystal clear compared to other portable speakers I own. It’s not that it was bad, but not deserving of 5 stars. Solid sound though. I think why this product my be more appealing for some is all the cool features. One that is cool is that you can pair it with other speakers, shock resistant, water and dust proof (great around the pool), microphone pairing, and up to 24 hours battery life. I have only tested it for about 10 hours so far and is still running strong, which is a nice feature for me. All in all, I think this is an improvement from past Sony speakers I have used, but I think that if they can get a slightly better balance and clearness of the highs, they will compete with other high end products like Bose. I’m looking forward to taking this on my travels.

If you’re in the market for a portable, durable, and well designed Bluetooth speaker with multi -speaker pairing capabilities (up to 100), look no further. Whether filling the house or backyard with crisp and powerful audio, or taking a call in the office, the SRS-XE300 seems to check all the boxes. The battery life is exceptional and provides up to 24 hours of play time on a full charge. Additionally, Sony claims that the quick charge feature will provide 70 minutes of play time with just a 10 minute charge from it’s USB-C charging port. To keep that battery healthy the Battery Care features works to preserves optimal battery life by preventing overcharging. The Music Center app has some great features and can enable some interesting functions. For example, Party Connect allows for 2 speaker stereo or up to 100 speaker sync. All over home audio couldn’t be easier. The Music Center app also allows you to adjust settings, manage playback and more. The sound quality is excellent with clear highs, firm mids and punchy lows. Outdoors you’ll notice how the design helps push sound all around you. The sound projects and pushes to fill the entire space. I can’t wait to pick up another and see what these can do in stereo!

This SRS-XE300 from Sony is a shockingly subpar offering at an eye-popping price point. It does do some things well and has some great app integration and features and a tight user experience you’d expect from a premier brand. However, at the end of the day, a speaker has to do one thing well and that’s where it falls very short. I feel it best to just go ahead and come straight out with it; this speaker has very disappointing sound for the price. At this price point, you simply cannot have any shortcomings and this speaker has several. Out of the box, the sound profile is extremely flat and disappointing. Thankfully, you can make adjustments with Sony’s Music Center app giving you basic control over bass, mid, and treble or you can let Sony determine the optimal settings with their “ClearAudio+” setting. However, even after spending probably close to 1/2 hour playing different music genres and playing with different adjustments, including using ClearAudio+, performance just doesn’t improve much at all. It still doesn’t sound lively or punchy, bass is particularly disappointing as it just does not ever sound deep or thump. The speaker doesn’t get very loud at all, and no matter what settings or adjustments I’ve used, I’ve found it impossible to not have music sound hollow and lifeless - almost like music is trapped inside and somehow has managed to escape. Frankly, it just does not sound good. To be sure I wasn’t crazy, we took three speakers to a friends house for a pool party. One was a smaller (but similar) size but costs under a 1/3rd of the price, one was a similar price but roughly twice the size. I asked 5 other adults to all do a blind ranking of their performance and every single one of them placed the Sony speaker last. I have several portable Bluetooth speakers from several different price points and this one is the worst value no questions asked. Competing brands offer much better sound from a smaller package that has nearly all of the same features this speaker has. Where’s the value? And more importantly, where is the sound?! It’s not all bad: Sony offers everything you’d expect in a speaker like this; water and dust resistant, great battery life, app integration (that’s actually very good), and the ability to share your speaker with others or tether additional speakers together. It is extremely handsome and feels very well made. It definitely looks the part of a speaker at this price. Even though it’s on the larger end of portable speaker size, it’s still very easy to carry and throw in a bag or backpack for a party or the pool. But at the end of the day, none of that really matters because the sound is so disappointing.

I wanted a portable speaker that had more power than the smaller ones we continued to have problems with not enough sound, and the loss of bluetooth connectivity. This Sony speaker has been amazing - we have had no issues connecting to a variety of sources), it produces serious volume with excellent sound! It is very portable and with the places we roll, waterproof and dustproof are key! I am also enjoying the long battery life...

I bought this for my wife. She loved it. The quality of the sound is great. The bass is also good. Easy to carry with a built in handle. At night you can turn on the light to give your speaker a fresh look. Sony never disappoints.
