Awesome Portable Bluetooth Speaker!
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.The Sony XG300 Portable X-Series Bluetooth Speaker is a great sounding speaker with a cool design. Following are the pros and cons I have found while testing out this new speaker: PROS: - The speaker was incredibly easy to start using. It paired very easily and the controls are pretty intuitive if you've ever used a Bluetooth speaker. It did come with a Reference Guide to show you how to use the controls though too. - The controls on the speaker include a Power button, Bluetooth Pairing button, Mega Bass button, Play/Pause/Answer Phone button, and Volume up and down buttons. The Play/Pause button also allows you to skip forward or backward one track, by pushing it two or three times respectively. - There is a jack port area on the back that closes up tight with a rubber cover. Inside that port, there is a USB port for charging a phone or other device, an Aux Audio-In port, USB-C charging port, Battery Level Check button and a Lights on/off button. - The speaker has a cool-looking design, including a unique diaphragm shape and a nice-looking fabric that covers the whole speaker, except the ends. The ends both have lights that can flash in different patterns and change colors, or they can be turned off. The patterns can be changed via an App. There is also a carrying strap that can either slide and be pulled up for carrying, or it can be slid down flat with the surface of the speaker so the handle does not appear when sitting on a shelf, for example. My friends have commented on how nice this speaker looks, as well as on the great sound. - The speaker is IP67 Waterproof and dustproof, which is a really nice feature for a portable speaker. I can safely take it to the pool, beach, camping or party and not worry if it gets a little wet or dirty or something spills on it, as it will be easy to clean and I don't have to worry about the speaker being damaged. - Most importantly for a speaker is the sound is great! I have tested it out with a variety of music, including multiple genres, men and women singers, heavy and light rock, acoustical and instrumental. It sounds great with everything I play. I tend to like a lot of bass and I am impressed with the level of bass punch and how deep the bass is for a speaker of this size, especially with the Mega Bass turned on, while still sounding balanced overall. Even directly from the sides, it still sounds quite good. - This speaker can be paired and used directly with the music library or other Apps on your phone, however, it is also designed to be used with the Sony Music Center App. This is actually a speaker App that is quite useful and has some nice features. It will pull in the music library from your phone, or also gives you direct access from the App to Amazon Music, Pandora, Soundcloud, Spotify or you can also add other music Apps to the Sony App so you can control all sources of music from one App. It also gives you access to the Fiestable App, which allows you to control the lights separate from the normal controls and do other DJ types of effects. The App also allows you to select or customize a variety of settings, including sound effects (Clear Audio+, which is recommended for optimized sound by Sony, Mega Bass, DJ Effect, Live Sound or you can select Custom, which gives you a three band equalizer to set your own sound preference), power settings (turn speaker off after 15 minutes of non-use, or settings to conserve battery life), set 9 different modes for the lights, and it allows you to pair two different phones or devices so multiple people can take turns playing music. It also allows you to connect multiple Sony speakers to the App so you can play the same thing through multiple speakers that are all paired together. - The speaker comes with the USB-C charging cord and the battery will play for up to 25 hours on a full charge. If the charge runs out, you can also do a quick charge for 10 minutes to get 70 more minutes of playing time. CONS: It is honestly pretty hard to come up with cons for this speaker and those I am going to list are really pretty minor, compared to all the great pros. - While I like the fact the handle slides up and down so it can lay flat when pushed in, when it is pulled up, because it only slides up from one side, the handle ends up being a little off center when you carry it, making a bit heavier on one end than the other and makes it a little off-balance when you carry it. I would have preferred the handle slide up evenly from both ends so it carries more balanced, in the center. - It is a little heavier than I thought it would be for a speaker of this size. Not that it is really a problem, and for me I like that, as it makes for a nice solid feeling speaker, but some may not like the weight if you want to take it with you in a backpack, for example. - While I like the custom equalizer option, I think those are always better if they are a 5 band equalizer instead of a 3 band equalizer like this App has, as it gives more control. Perhaps that is a future enhancement they can add to the App. Overall, I feel this is a really nice, well-designed, great sounding speaker that I will get a lot of great use from in the future!

|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I'm very happy with the combination of portability, power, sound quality, and features that the SRS-XG300 has to offer! Design I love the look of the SRS-XG300! It's almost a cylinder with the ends a slightly larger diameter than the middle. The water-proof treated fabric wrapping the speaker looks great too and feels very strong. The handle completely recesses into the top of the speaker when it's down. It's easy to pull it up and it will stay up on it's own. There are six buttons on the top towards the front. The three on the left are power, Bluetooth, and Mega Bass. The three on the right are Play/Pause/Phone, Volume Up, and Volume down. On the back, protected by a rubber cover, there are two more buttons and three ports. The ports are a USB Type C for charging, a USB Type A for charging your phone or other devices from the speaker battery, and a 1/8" stereo line-in jack. The buttons are a Battery button and a Light button. Battery will announce the current battery level. Light turns the lights on and off. The lights only are seen from the sides but I do think they look cool. Sound Quality I think the quality of the sound is excellent. I tested with a number of different types of music over Bluetooth and using the line-in. I was impressed with the vocals as well as the instruments. I was able to hear nuances in music that I don't always hear. I tried with Mega Bass on and off and like having it on better. The app lets you choose between Mega Bass and Live Sound. Live Sound does give a bit of a fuller sound but I still tend to like Mega Bass. It's worth a try and could be better for some situation. You can set custom EQs too adjusting +/- 10 for Bass, Middle, and Treble EQs. I was wondering if a speaker like this would have stereo separation. I did some tests and, sure enough, it does. They don't really advertise it as that but it is a stereo speaker. I love the sound the SRS-XG300 puts out! It produces great quality, room filling sound! Features Waterproof - The documentation even mentions taking it to the beach, it just says to rinse off the sand and salt water after with fresh water. If feel like it could be hard to clean really well with the fabric mesh it's wrapped in and the thing looks so awesome I'd hate to ruin that but hey, apparently it's made for that! They do not mention that it floats or that is should be used while it's submerged. I didn't test any of that. USB Charging - I tested it and it worked well with my phone 25 hour battery life - The battery life is great! I've used it a lot, mostly with the lights on, and it just keeps going! The 24 hour rating is with lights off and volume at 24 (50 is 100% volume), and I think Mega Bass off too. Party Mode - Pair with another Sony Party mode speaker to have them play the same audio from a Bluetooth source, pair with an identical speaker and you have the option of using them as a stereo pair Battery Care - I wish every device had this, more are starting to offer something like it which is good. When on, this will limit the speaker to charging to 90%. That will improve the life of the battery (like for how many years the battery is still good). Note, always make sure to charge it to 100% first when you get it. That does something to activate Lithum Ion batterys. After that you can turn on Battery Care mode if you want. Turn it off to fill it a little more when you need it! Speaker phone - I did test and it does work fine as a speaker phone. The Apps There are two apps you'll want for this speaker. The first and most important is the Sony Music Center App. This gives you access to EQ setting, installs updates for the speaker, lets you select lots of different light settings, controls volume, and more. You'll need this app to use Party Mode and join it to another Sony Party Mode compatible speaker. Make sure you check into this if you have another Sony speaker and you expect to use this feature. Sony has other ways to connect wireless speakers and have them work with each other that are not Party Mode and not compatible with this speaker. The second app is Fiestable. This does other things too but to me the greatest value is that you can use it to make the lights on the speaker any color you want. You can really select probably any color possible from on a color wheel and the differentiation between colors is pretty good! Summary There are a few drawbacks that were not deal breakers and somewhat offset by some other features for me but so you're aware: - This does not let you play music off a USB flash drive - The app gives a ton of pre-sets for the lights but only two pre-set EQs (mentioned above) for some reason. It seems like Sony could fix that with an app update and give at least a handful of EQ presets Those aside, this is an excellent all around Bluetooth speaker with a great feature set!

The overall volume may vary depending on the source content. Turn up the volume of the speaker and the connected device. You also have the option to adjust the sound settings of the speaker to tailor-fit the sound quality to your needs. You may find this link helpful:

Make sure to charge the built-in battery sufficiently. The sound may become low in the following cases. This is not a malfunction.
-While the speaker is running on power from the rechargeable built-in battery, the sound may become low in the event that the rechargeable built-in battery is running out of power and the CHARGE indicator flashes slowly. This, however, does not indicate a malfunction.
-When the ambient temperature of the speaker is high.
