It is compact, with a sleek and modern design. The retractable rubber handle to hold and carry the speaker along with the fabric cover adds a rugged look to the speaker. The box includes USB C cable and the AC power adapter. The charging port is housed at the back of the speaker and has a door to cover them. There is also a USB A port to charge other devices. The speaker is primarily connected and controlled via Bluetooth, but you do have the option to plug in an Aux cable for a wired connection. There is a dedicated Battery Care button that will help extend the battery life by only allowing to charge the speaker to 90%. Make sure you download the Sony Music Center app to control the speaker and customize your settings. There is an LED ring light on the side of the speaker. It provides ambient lighting and can be synchronized with your music. If you have compatible speakers (max one hundred), you can set them up in party mode where all your speakers will play the same music as well as the lights synchronize up. The battery life is amazing, rated at 25 hours. I was able to use it for a few hours a day and didn't need to recharge for a week. It depends on your usage and other settings, plus a quick 10 min charge gives you an hour of playback time. The speaker also has a microphone, which comes in handy to be used for calls when paired with your phone. It wasn't bad when I tried it for few calls and Sony has incorporated Echo Cancelling technology to that. This speaker is rated IP67, which means you can carry it to the beach and parks and make it waterproof and dustproof. The power button as well as music control button on the speaker itself comes in handy for skipping tracks as well as volume control without opening the app on your phone. If you are looking for a portable speaker in this range and size, XG300 is the best that is out there, and I would definitely recommend it.

The speaker is not as loud as it advertised in store- and the battery for it being new does not hold it very long. It certainly do not last 25 hours as it states. We had it fully charged - used it for 5 hours. Turned it off- went to use it 4 days later it was telling us low battery….also the range is not what it’s advertised.. went inside the house with the speaker on porch and it went all cranky and disconnected - I wasn’t even 10 feet away from it. Dont waste your money on this speaker. Not pleased considering the cost I paid for it.

Love that it has a built-in carrying handle, bonus is that it retracts, so it's not in the way. Also, if you're going to add lights to your speaker, take notes from Sony. This is how you want party lights on your speaker, if you want them at all. Subtle. Plain and simple. But as good as it is it feels like a couple of things are a miss. For one thing, it just feels like Sony is trying too hard with this. Yes it'll fit into most people's lives if they get it, yes it has great sound & great bass, but it seems like Sony is really striving to make an effort here to compete with their obvious main competitor JBL. It's like this is Sony's version of the JBL Xtreme 3 while the Sony XG500 is their version of the JBL Boombox 3. However Sony is giving us better prices than JBL at the moment and Sony is also NOT cutting corners with either sound quality or how powerful their speakers currently are. So do I recommend this? Well yes, provided you catch it on sale. Regular price version JBL Xtreme 3 vs regular price version Sony XG300 I'd say get the JBL Xtreme 3. However as Sony is giving retailers better sale price opportunities than JBL I'd recommend a Sony if you can wait to get it on sale. That'll be a big factor for many I'm sure: do you want/need it right away, and if so, is either of them on sale? This will get your party started and keep it going too just as much as any JBL speaker, so I'd recommend going off price at time of buying. But also, my main recommendation is looking at this speaker in general. Without comparing it to anything else. Even then it's well worth a couple hundred bucks.

Other Sony speakers we have purchased have blown us away. Sadly, this did not happen with this speaker. It sounded like the music was coming from inside a barrel, and no matter what we did, the sound was awful. So, if you are looking for a great-sounding speaker, look elsewhere. We returned this speaker.

I decided to get this speaker to see how good it was and I'm impressed.In my opinion you're getting a good quality speaker for it's price. But if you still have the xb33 from last year I think you should be ok not getting this speaker. Both the xb33 and xg300 are pretty much the same in my opinion. If you don't have the xb33 then i recommend this xg300 speaker.

great until a device update

This thing worked great in Party Mode connecting with an ULT Field 7. Until it took an update. Now the audio cuts in and out. Only when using this mode. Sony dropped the price by $200 recently which prompted the purchase. Shortly afterward they dropped a bunch of new ULT devices. I hope their is no intentional obsoletion at play.

Make sure to charge the built-in battery sufficiently. The sound may become low in the following cases. This is not a malfunction.
-While the speaker is running on power from the rechargeable built-in battery, the sound may become low in the event that the rechargeable built-in battery is running out of power and the CHARGE indicator flashes slowly. This, however, does not indicate a malfunction.
-When the ambient temperature of the speaker is high.
You also have the option to adjust the sound settings of the speaker to tailor-fit the sound quality to your needs. Additionally, you can use the Party Connect function and Stereo Pair function to enjoy a more powerful sound. You may find these links helpful:
