If you just look at the name of this system, you probably aren’t that impressed. It is accurate to call it a Portable Bluetooth Speaker, but the Sony SRS-XP700 Portable Wireless Speaker is so much more. Back in the 80’s, Prince had a song called “Partyman” where he says, “We rock the party, we rock the house.” That is what this thing does. Just looking at the box you can tell this speaker is big. It weighs nearly 40 pounds and stands over 2 feet tall. But set up is easy. You plug it in and you are nearly set. There are multiple inputs into the system. You can connect devices via 1 of 2 charging USB ports, 1/8 inch input, or a pair of ¼ inch mic inputs. You can even connect an electric guitar to this speaker. And if you want to go wireless, your smartphone connects in seconds with Bluetooth. I started off connecting to my phone. The phone immediately prompted me to download a pair of Sony apps to enhance the use of the system. Through the app I was able to control the music and the light colors and styles. It was very easy to operate. The music quality was better than I even expected with this speaker. The bass register was neither overbearing nor weak. There is a mega-bass feature which gives the music a little extra pop but even that did not distort the sound. Also, the high register stayed consistent. I listed to various styles of music and they all came out nicely. I also didn’t notice much white noise during song changes or quieter parts of songs. The system is expandable, though I didn’t try it. But the software shows how you can connect upwards of 100 other Bluetooth speaker to really rock the party. The software can control the led images of those as well to create an visual show to go along with the sound if you had the money and the need for such a setup. The Sony Portable Speaker can also be used via battery making it great for tailgating, family reunions, or taking the party with you. The battery claims to run 25 hours. I didn’t run that long without being connected to a wall outlet, but it went a half day with no issues. In the end, I don’t know why Sony went with such a plain name for this speaker. Just calling it a Portable Bluetooth Speaker makes it sound small and underpowered, but this speaker is anything but that. This will easily fill up your entire house but can still be used in just a single room. I highly recommend this speaker to anyone looking for a quality speaker that can do it all.

Hi MrsA, We're sorry to hear that the volume level issue you're having. This is definitely not the news we want to hear. Please allow us to turn this into a better experience.

To play music louder, connect the speaker to an AC outlet. And to ensure optimal listening experience, please make sure you have downloaded the Sony Music Center app. There you will find all sorts of tools like an equalizer to fine-tune your speaker and maximize the volume to your liking. You may also refer to these links to help you resolve the issue and improve your experience with the SRSXP500: https://www.sony.com/electronics/support/speakers-wireless-speakers/srs-xp500/articles/00228345 https://helpguide.sony.net/speaker/srs-xp500/v1/en/contents/TP1000243087.html

Please note: The volume will become low when the maximum sound volume for playing music depends on whether the speaker is running on power from the connected AC outlet or from the rechargeable built-in battery. This, however, does not indicate a malfunction.

      Hope this helps!

First off this thing is not for the weak, it's 37lbs!! Sony stopped playing with the little sound boxes and went big. You could put this in your car and boom you got great sound system in your car (just thinking outloud). Pulling this out of the box the second thing you notice is the quality and craftmanship that Sony put into this unit. Grip handles at both ends which helps when lugging this thing around. Nice powdercoat black look with rubber cover over the plugins in the back to protect them from the elements. They brought their A game speaker technology with rich highs and deep lows, really just a beautiful sound BUT there was songs that could not handle the bass with the volume high, turn it down to 50% and sound smooths out but you lose sound on hard hitting songs which I can not name. Most of the time I could turn up the volume to 75% to 100% occasionally, still great sound and listen this may work out once the speakers get some use, so it's still 5 star purchase. I doubt most people will not have the volume maxed out during a backyard party if you want to hear people at your party. At low volume this unit just sounds like it's got more in the tank, begging to be turned up, the bass just so on point your ear holes will want more. That thing rattling around in your head called a brain will perk up and pay attention asking where you been all my miserable life SRS-XP500! Again worth every penny and star. Move on to the light game this thing has, really a neat added feature you can control with the app. The bluetooth wireless was easy breezy hookup and there are two apps you can download the main app has EQ settings which could help with the bass at max volume level anyway, I got upto 50 feet away from the unit before any break up in music, i moved around my house while the unit was outside and phone in my pocket never lost sound (1500sqft house). Charges fast last long time I got 18hrs of plat time and I charged my phone on it so awesome battery life. Mic works really good and you can hook up a guitar and have live music at your party, yeah that just happened at mike's awesome party last night. Trust me this thing will wow your friends if you host lotz of party'z I'll use it for my outdoor theater nights on Saturdays.

    The ultimate party speaker!

I don’t even know where to begin with this speaker! First of all, this thing is a monster. Basically think of it as a combination between a large floor speaker and a portable unit. It has the power and output of a floor speaker, coupled with the portability and convenience of a portable unit. The speaker as you would assume is Bluetooth capable. I used it attached to my iPhone and iPad so far. The connection was seamless and simple. Just find it on your phone and connect to the signal. The signal is the same as the model number of the device (XP700). The speaker is huge as I mentioned before. So you would think it has to be plugged in all the time to have all that power going to it? Nope. The thing has a crazy 25 hour battery life! Maybe I have been living in a cave or something. But this is the first speaker I have owned of this size that has a battery like this. So essentially you can charge it and let it play at a day long party outside with ease. Personally, I have not tried it for more than a few hours at a time, but it works equally well plugged in or not plugged in. The sound is the most important aspect with a speaker obviously. Voices are clear as a crystal in spoken word or song. The bass punches hard and both are adjustable. To be honest, for the price I expected performance. I was not disappointed at all! It says it is water resident to splashes, but I will obviously not test that. But given the fact that it is very humid where I live that is a bonus. The last thing is something I have not tested either, since it is not my thing. But apparently the manual says that you can use this speaker as an amp for your guitar. It also has a mic input, so I think this would have some karaoke options if that is your thing. In closure, this is the ultimate party speaker. It will last longer than you will, with the long battery life. But it is not a portable unit for a book shelf. It has strong sound and lots of punch. But I would definitely recommend this thing to anyone that entertains. The quality is top tier and I really like it. You will too.

For the cost of this speaker I was underwhelmed. It’s not the easiest to carry even though it has handles. I personally felt like the music was distorted when you turn the volume up. The music was drowned out in a tiny indoor space with about 20-30 people. Also the whole app thing is not well thought out. Who wants to try to open an app when you’re at a function to try to adjust the sound. I don’t recommend

Not too much compares to listening to good music. With this Sony Portable Wireless Speaker, you can not only carry your listening pleasure with you, but also have the power to share the experience with a decent crowd. Unboxing this thing, I immediately felt the quality that Sony brings – very well built, but sleek and functional. It stands about as high as a stage monitor and is probably a tad slimmer than one. The weight makes the speaker feel tangible, but not too heavy. There are music controls on top and control buttons with a compartment in the rear. This speaker is water resistant, and the button and compartment design are in line with that feature. The rear compartment hides 2 USB ports, 2 quarter-inch microphone ports (with one having additional functionality for guitar plug-in), and volume controls. I feel these ports take this Sony portable speaker to another level. It allows anyone to hold a small concert, set up a truly wireless PA system, and do a slew of other things. Connecting via Bluetooth is a snap – very easy, even my wife had it up and running on her iPhone in a jiffy. How does it sound? Great! The speaker has clear and quality sound with accurate mids and resonating bass. It gets loud enough to entertain a house party, easily. There are lights for all those that are fans of setting the stage or the mood. The battery life is as advertised, as I ran this for days, hours at a time, on my back patio before finally needing a charge. It lasted so long that we were surprised when it gave us the verbal “low battery” warning. What’s not to like here?... Absolutely nothing. This is one of the best audio products I’ve had the pleasure of using in the last year. The size, it’s ports, the battery life, and the water resistance make it very versatile. If you are in the market for a portable wireless speaker with adequate functionality and quality sound, look no further! This is it!

Got this to replace our year old xb72 as this has 2 mic outputs vs 1. Every time we try to sing karaoke on this thing with 1 or 2 mics, the volume keeps turning down. Then back up when not singing. Really annoying. I am returning this thing 3 days after purchase due to waiting on the second mic to come in. Very disappointing. As our xb72 has been awesome. As well couldn’t party connect this one with our xb72 which sucked.

Sounds amazing when indoors, but I was looking for a portable speaker to take outside. You were not able to hear anything when playing music in the park. So no thank you. Returned

Hi GiveMeMyCoins, While we're glad you like the amazing sound quality of the unit, we regret to hear that the unit had to be returned. If you're getting a low sound level on the speakers and to ensure optimal listening experience even when playing it outdoors, please follow the troubleshooting steps on the link below:

      https://helpguide.sony.net/speaker/srs-xp500/v1/en/contents/TP1000243111.html

Also, please download the Sony Music Center app. There you will find an EQ that can boost the sound quality.

I hope you consider our Sony products in the future. Thank you for sharing your feedback.

      Regards,
      Sam Sony_US
