This is the biggest Bluetooth speaker I have ever owned, and wow it's awesome. Very simple unboxing, you get the cable and some paperwork and that's about it. The speaker itself is made from a very durable plastic with handles to move around. These handles are pretty important as the speaker weight almost 40lbs. Size wise it's around the same size as my 13 gallon trash can. The speaker does have subtle RGB lighting, so nothing to crazy if using in your home. It can be used with the included power cable or wirelessly. I am yet to kill the battery, it seems to last and last. The speaker has 2 subs and 3 tweeters and produces excellent audio. The lows are magnificent and they don't muddy the mids at all. The highs also come through really well with some good detailed sound. This speaker also connects to the Sony app allowing for adjustments. Overall this speaker is amazing. It's like having a nightclub in my backyard and my neighbors hate it lol

Even though it looks stylish, the speaker was a total failure for what we needed it for. The speaker sounds decent in a small room, but once in a bigger room, it doesnt perform. Sound is muffled and as far as power wattage, not enough to get the job done. Had to return and purchase a bigger Sony product.

Hi SignatureofHeaven, We regret to hear that the unit had to be returned. Downloading the Sony music center app and fine-tuning the SRSXP500 using the built-in equalizer are some of the troubleshooting steps that we recommend to maximize the volume and enhance your listening experience especially in a bigger room setting. And good to know you've upgraded to a bigger Sony audio product. Thank you for sharing your feedback. -Sam Sony_US

      Hi Matthew,

We are sorry to hear that your Sony Bluetooth party speaker stopped working. We do not recommend placing or leaving this speaker in a place subject to high temperatures, such as under direct sunlight, near a heat source, inside a vehicle with the windows closed (especially in summertime). Refer to this link for more details: https://helpguide.sony.net/speaker/srs-xp500/v1/en/contents/TP1000243099.html. You can still isolate this issue by following these steps:

      - Make sure that the AC power cord (mains lead) is connected securely to the speaker and the AC power cord (mains lead) is connected securely to an AC outlet. You can unplug the cord and plug it back again.

-It is possible that the rechargeable built-in battery is empty or running low. Try to charge it first before turning on. Charging will complete in about 3 hours and the indicator will turn off.

Feel free to test the unit again and verify if it resolves the issue. Should you need further assistance, you can email us at socialsupport@am.sony.com with the following details:

      Hi NealH,

Thanks for reaching out to us with your concerns. Sony does not publish wattage and there is a reason why. For Bluetooth speakers, the wattage and RMS numbers are not as important as they are for an AV receiver. This is because a Bluetooth speaker is designed to be a self-contained unit, with the amplifier, speakers, and other components all built-in together. This means that the manufacturer has optimized the design for the specific components they've chosen, so you can't easily compare the wattage or RMS numbers across different models.

We're also sorry if you find the audio quality, especially the bass sound not as great as you would liked and the speaker doesn't get very loud. We do have good information and guidelines below to get the most out of the volume and ensure optimal performance with the speaker

      • The maximum sound volume for playing music depends on whether the speaker is running on power from the connected AC outlet or from the rechargeable built-in battery. This, however, does not indicate a malfunction.
To play music louder, connect the speaker to an AC outlet.
      • If the sound becomes low while in use, follow the procedure from the link below.
      https://helpguide.sony.net/speaker/srs-xp500/v1/en/contents/TP1000243112.html

The SRS-XP700 is Sony’s big daddy bluetooth speaker. This isn’t your average bring to a small gathering speaker, this is the life of the party speaker. Not only does it have the sound to push a mid-sized party all on its own, but it also has ¼” microphone and guitar inputs to allow karaoke or solo instrument play. The XP700 is a serious party animal. So compared to its predecessor (or at least one of them), the design makes a lot more sense. Not only is the lighting more subdued (compared to the XB90), but the speaker drivers are more numerous and larger. You get the same tweeter setup, but square woofers. Those woofers offer more area, and thus more sound. Out back you get Sony’s omnidirectional sound with a dedicated tweeter and the porting for radiated bass. Overall it means you get decent sound behind the speaker as well in front making placement easier at most parties. There is a handy slit on the top where you can put an ipad or your phone. As mentioned previously, the lighting is more subdued compared to the XB90. No longer are there dedicated strobes or in your face light bars. This speaker hides its well diffused LEDs in the handles illuminating a matte gray plastic softening the lighting effects. In all there are 4 LEDs in each handle. The effect is far more subdued and attractive. The lighting is controllable in-app, and has several different modes/presets that react with the music. All in all the lighting is definitely a step up. Sound wise, I have much fewer complaints than I had with the XB90. The XB90 was loud and clear at upper volumes, but struggled to maintain clarity at lower volumes. While the driver setup is very similar here, I had no such struggle with clarity at any volume. In fact, even with the Extra Bass setting on, I could clearly make out lyrics and details at personal listening levels. In fact, clarity across the board is something I felt the XB700 had in spades. Even behind the speaker at low volumes, the dedicated tweeter does its job and keeps things clear. The X-Balanced speakers live up to their promise. The user interface has been simplified from the XB90 as well. There is just a single button row up top for power, bluetooth, play/pause, volume and extra bass mode. There are convenient LED lights for power, bluetooth, and extra bass (which also can turn on a power saver if held illuminating yet another dedicated LED. Out back you find a play and charge, dedicated charge, power, line input, and dual mic inputs. One of the mic inputs doubles as a guitar input (and has a button that enables the line level required). Each mic has its own dedicated volume knob. I am no karaoke singer, but I did plug in the mic input with my old semi-pro mic. The volume control works well and allows the speaker to sort of fill a basic PA speaker need. Just due to summer schedules, I haven’t had my buddy try it out with his guitar yet, but that’s on the table in the next week or two. The apps are really quite good. Using the music center app, you can adjust audio settings, battery/charge settings (including a handy battery saver that prevents overcharging), swap inputs, etc. Basic lighting is in there, but the Fiestable app has more lighting options. It also has a boatload of other features, including media control with phone accelerometer gestures and probably about 30 other features I’ll never use. That said, you personally might have interest in the Karaoke scoring, DJ Control or Party Playlist. Battery life on this beast is quite good. I used it on and off for hours today, and it’s still sitting around 80% battery. That might be closer to 20h vs the rated 25h, but this is also with most of the bells and whistles turned on and volume up. Overall, it’s hard to be upset that it can only provide 2 full work days (and then some) worth of playtime. Of course just plug it in to an outlet and boom - keep the party going forever! Overall, the XB700 lives up to its price tier. It sounds much better than its predecessor, and has a much more subdued style. If you are looking for a large outdoor speaker for parties, then look no further. If you’re looking for great sound, I can actually say this guy does the deed. Are you looking for some Karaoke? Bam! Are you looking for a cheap setup for playing guitar/singing at your local event? This guy is perfect. Overall I recommend the XB700!

Been playing this since I got it. The illuminating lights, DJ mode and sound effects is amazing. The sound is mind blowing, the bass is definitely mega and yet clear. Battery life is going on and on and on. Took this outside to the pool area the past two days and it last forever. I played it for about 4 hours at a decent "party" level and the battery still had 85% left. Very unreal as the bass and the volume should have in my mind taken more battery, but it didn't. Build quality and handles are top level. This is a large portable speaker with incredible sound. Connects to my I phone and plays everything I threw at it. The fiesta music and Sony music center are fun as you can do some really cool mix stuff with those apps.

      Hi KelseyP,

We're sorry to hear this issue. We appreciate your feedback regarding the life span of the built-in battery of the speaker. The life span of the rechargeable built-in battery differs depending on the usage, environment, and storage method. The XP500 has plenty of battery life. Up to 20 hours (Measured value acquired by playing our specified music source with the volume level of the unit set to 16, the sound mode set to MEGA BASS, and the lighting function turned off) of battery life with quick charging. Just 10 minutes of charging provides up to 80 mins of playback.

As with any battery operated speaker, actual performance time may vary from the listed time due to the volume, songs played, surrounding temperature, and usage conditions. For more information about the life span of the built-in lithium ion battery of the unit, please check these help guide links:

Hi ElvisV, We're sorry to hear that the sound quality of your XP500 did not meet your expectations. To play music louder, connect the speaker to an AC outlet. And to ensure optimal listening experience, please make sure you have downloaded the Sony Music Center app. There you will find all sorts of tools like an equalizer to fine-tune your speaker and maximize the volume to your liking. You may also refer to these links to help you resolve the issue and improve your experience with the SRSXP500: https://www.sony.com/electronics/support/speakers-wireless-speakers/srs-xp500/articles/00228345 https://helpguide.sony.net/speaker/srs-xp500/v1/en/contents/TP1000243087.html Please note: The volume will become low when the maximum sound volume for playing music depends on whether the speaker is running on power from the connected AC outlet or from the rechargeable built-in battery. This, however, does not indicate a malfunction. Hope this helps!

Hi Kingjay, We are sorry to hear that the sound quality did not meet your expectations. This is definitely not the experience we'd like you to have. We'd love to help you troubleshoot your problem and turn your experience around.

If the sound is low, please try the following:
The maximum sound volume for playing music depends on whether the speaker is running on power from the connected AC outlet or from the rechargeable built-in battery. This, however, does not indicate a malfunction. To play music louder, connect the speaker to an AC outlet.
Turn up the volume of the speaker and the connected device.
Check that the connected device is playing.
For optimum performance, please ensure the software is updated. Download and launch Sony | Music Center application to check which version of the firmware you currently have.
