This, however, does not indicate a malfunction. To play music louder, connect the speaker to an AC outlet.
And by downloading the Sony Music Center app, you will find all sorts of tools to fine-tune the speaker using the built-in EQ and maximize the volume to ensure optimal listening experience. You may also find different devices will perform better than others, as will different apps due to different types of audio compression and transmission.

Heavy, big, but amazing sound makes up for it
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Sony's SRS-XP700 is a touch on the larger side of "mobile" speakers and while some might not have an issue with this, younger/smaller users might. I point this out right up front because it is just about the only con/downside to the speaker. Aside from that, it's an amazing device that more than makes up for this one single shortcoming. You have numerous inputs; 2x USB, 2x line in w/level adjustments, aux cable input, and you can also connect multiple SRS-XP700's together via Sony's "Party Connect" technology. It says it would allow up to 100 devices, but who has the ability to test that? I'll take their word for it. With all those connections you can use this thing as a party speaker, monitor, karaoke machine, guitar/electronic drum amp, etc etc, soooo many uses. There's your typical notch in the top to rest a phone/tablet for use during karaoke. The USB's also double as chargers so if you are out and about the SRS-XP700 acts as a mobile battery brick for other devices. A very welcome feature. Lights surround the perimeter of the handle notches found at the top and bottom of the speaker. There are numerous settings for them found in the Sony app, or you can quickly turn them on/off entirely via the "Lights" button found on the back of the SRS-XP700. As far as sound goes the SRS-XP700 is nothing short of amazing, especially for a $500 all-in-one "mobile" option. Treble is great, mids are stellar, but the bass, oh the bass. Sony has hit this part just right, even with "mega bass" activated the lows don't overpower the mix. So many other brands put such an emphasis on the low frequencies that the listener loses a lot of what's going on. Not the case here. Activate mega bass and you still have an amazing soundstage. There is also a rear-facing speaker that acts as a monitor for when singing karaoke, as you typically stand behind the speaker with it facing towards the listeners/audience, another nice touch I don't believe I've seen on any other such setups. Easy recommendation, full price or on sale, get one. Surprise your loved one's with one whether it be a birthday, Christmas, or just because...they will love it!

The lights and app are a great additional features as well. Overall, I would recommend this speaker to anyone looking to own the aux at a party. One note this speaker is on the heavier side, so moving can sometimes be challenging, shouldn't stop you from buying.

We are so sorry that you have received your speaker with no manuals or cables. This unit comes with an AC power cord (mains lead) and operating instructions. However, an audio cable with a stereo mini plug at both ends is sold separately. Manuals are also posted on your model support page. Instruction manuals and user guides are available for most Sony products.
