The maximum sound volume for playing music depends on whether the speaker is running on power from the connected AC outlet or from the rechargeable built-in battery. This, however, does not indicate a malfunction. To ensure optimal listening experience, please make sure you have downloaded the Sony Music Center app. There you will find all sorts of tools like an equalizer to fine-tune your SRSXP500 and maximize the volume to your liking.

This function can also be adjusted on the Sony Music Center app. Additionally, there is a built-in EQ that has 20 points of control for Bass, Midrange, and Treble to tailor-fit the sound quality to your needs. Turn up the volume of the speaker and the connected device.
Check that the connected device is playing.

Using the Sony | Music Center app you can change the sound quality setting and equalizer adjustment. To enjoy more dynamic sound (MEGA BASS effect), please check the following procedures below:
On “Sony | Music Center,” tap [SRS-XP500] - [Settings] - [Sound] - [Sound Effect] - [MEGA BASS].
Press the MEGA BASS button on the speaker.
Each time you press the button, the sound effect setting to MEGA BASS mode is switched on/off.

Hi JaimeM, thanks for choosing and purchasing our product. We're sorry to hear that you have an issue with the party connect function with your Sony unit. Unfortunately, the Party Connect function of SRSXP700 is not compatible with the Wireless Party Chain of your SRSXB40 which is basically a different connection. Devices compatible with the Party Connect function:
