      Hi AlexW,
Thank you for your time to share your experience. While we are glad you like the sound quality of your SRSXP500 speaker, we're sorry to hear if you feel that the sound is low. Allow us to help make this a better experience.

The maximum sound volume for playing music depends on whether the speaker is running on power from the connected AC outlet or from the rechargeable built-in battery. This, however, does not indicate a malfunction.
To play music louder, connect the speaker to an AC outlet.
Turn up the volume of the speaker and the connected device.
Check that the connected device is playing.

Used it for the first time. Supposed to last 20 hours, lasted only 7 hours. Maybe because I was charging my phone at the same time but they should tell you that!

      Hello Wire,

We do apologize for the inconvenience. “Normal charge” and “Battery Care” modes are available as options for charging the built-in battery of the speaker. Battery Care mode limits the maximum charge capacity to approximately 90% and makes the battery life last longer. The playback time available in this mode is shorter than stated. At the time of your purchase, the speaker is in normal charge mode by default. As an alternative, the speaker is capable of running on power either from an AC outlet connected by the supplied AC power cord (mains lead) or from the rechargeable built-in lithium-ion battery. The speaker doesn’t get as loud as it’s advertised. The expense doesn’t equate to the quality. I wanted to use it outside for my businesses outdoor events and we can barely hear it. I’m very disappointed.

Horrible speaker!!! 500w my kids Amazon 100w speaker is louder and sounds better. For the money JBL is the way to go. You would have thought for the price and the product name SONY this speaker would be amazing. Like i said JBL has it beat by a long shot no comparison. I will be returning this speaker.

      Hello Sound75,

We regret to hear that this speaker failed to meet your expectations. Just so you know we do not claim our speaker to have 500 watts, 500 is just in its name SRS-XP500, and we apologize for any confusion.

Also, if you have not returned the XP500, please try the Sony Music Center app. There you can change the sound profile to your liking. There is even a built in EQ. We understand how subjective sound and peoples tastes can be, and we have found that an EQ allows people greater amount of freedom to express themselves.

Oh, and you may have already done this, but please fully charge the unit at least once before testing it out again. You may have hit the auto volume limiter when the battery is too low. This is there to prevent damage to your speaker.

Please be assured we take this feedback very seriously and continuously strive to improve our products.

      Regards,
      David Sony_US
