The Sony SRS XP500 Is a great Garage, Basement, Pool Party Companion. Once you download the Sony Music center App to play all of your music, connect, stream, change settings etc. the fun begins. You can also download a party app called Fiestable, that will continuously play favorite songs selected by everyone at the party who has the app. Additionally, It enables a party light that’s linked to the speaker on each participants phone. I started in my living room and played some classic rock with and without the mega bass on. The sound filled up my room cleanly and not a hint of distortion. Even when I had it cranked. I then moved to the basement man cave, garage and back patio. The Sony did not disappoint once. I even had my 18 yo daughter play some of her music and she concurred. She loved the speaker, especially with the mega bass on. I did notice some very slight distortion when the bass hit at some on the louder settings, but upon further inspection, The song I was listening to was a bad rip, very low quality. I replayed it with a better quality file and the issue was nonexistent. This speaker will be my go to speaker that’s very versatile. Now for some of the specs… The box has 2 usb ports in the back, 1 is for charging/play, the other for play only, a pass-through audio in, 2 microphones or 1 guitar, great for karaoke and or playing along with your guitar. You can also plug in a thumb drive with music and it plays great. The Party Connect is a great feature for those with multiple Sony speakers. It will marry all the speakers to the XP-500 and play for better sound throughout your party. (See website for compatible Sony model numbers) On a standard charge the 500 will last about 20 hrs. This changes when you play it with the volume up , lights, and mega bass. If you’re in a hurry and don’t have time for a full charge you can charge for 10 minutes and get 80 minutes of play. The XP500 can stand upright or on its side, the sound is still great from all around. They have a built in sensor to know its position and will optimize for quality. The XP500 is also water resistant (not water proof) just make sure that the backing door is on tight if you are in a water area or you get caught in the rain. I found that all high, mid tone and low notes are very crisp and precise. The XP500 is a great all around speaker that I would recommend to friends and family without hesitation.

So this thing is great!! I didn't know what to expect and I was pleasantly surprised. First thing I should mention is the weight. Weight = Heavy!!!! Be very aware of this. You have to put some respect on your body to move it. But you can in fact move it, obviously. It has a bar on top and a bar on the bottom (if standing vertically). Because of this, it would have been helpful to have two bars on top (opposite) each other so that I can lift it easier in the vertical position. But it does have a bar on the bottom, so you can lift it horizontally using both bars. By the way, you can sit it horizontally as well, and it will adjust the sound. Setup was super easy. Turn it on first (power button on top). Push/hold down the bluetooth button on top and then go to your device and search for the bluetooth, and then connect. This will make the bluetooth button show a solid blue light. Up top, beside power and bluetooth, you also have play/pause (this button also does skip back/fwd), volume down, volume up and Mega Bass. Those top buttons are actually greyish white in color. They really should have done the same thing for the buttons on the back. I really don't know why they kept the buttons on the back the same color as the unit. It is so hard to see/read which button is which. My goodness. That is actually very annoying (my teeny Sony bluetooth player does the same annoying thing). Continuing with the back... you will see the following buttons: Party Connect (to connect to other compatible Sony bluetooth players to hear music from all connected to the "Party," Battery (to let you know battery level), and Light (to turn the lights in front on/off). Yes you get a light show in the top and bottom of the front of the unit that tries to light up to the beat(s) of the song... it tries. Also on the back in an enclosed panel that includes two USB ports, AC port for the power cord, Audio In port, Mic port (along with a volume knob) for karaoke, and Mic1/Guitar port (along with a volume knob) for connecting a guitar or other mic. So much you can do with this! The sound quality is GREAT! The sound is full and produces good bass! This is an amazing unit. Really. I fully recommend. Peace.

The first thing I noticed about the Sony SRSXP500 Bluetooth Portable Wireless Speaker is that this is no toy speaker. It is solidly built and well made. The Bluetooth pairing took 2 seconds. Surprised me. But that's just the tippy top of the accolades earned by this SONY speaker. - The X-Balanced speakers are quality. The bass (bass boost ON) provides a deep rich thump without distortion. The mids and tweeter are crisp and clear without brassy and piercing highs. - The battery life is second to none. SONY claimed that a 10 minute charge will give 80 minutes of play time. Not exactly true. From dead, a 10 minute change got me 88 minutes of Rock and Roll. - Sony SRSXP500 Bluetooth Portable Wireless Speaker is IPX4 water resistant. Worked well on the boat and by the pool. A splash or few won't kill the fun. - There are 2 apps that offer a ton of lighting and sound choices. On its own the light show is pretty cool and provides a cool light show. - Wanna rawk?!?! You can go full on karaoke? Plug in a mic and let your inner David Lee Roth out. Wanna REALLY rank out, link 2 or more Sony SRSXP500 Bluetooth Portable Wireless Speakers together. Trust me it's effortless an nearly no lag at all. Long battery life, water resistant and a full sound? What's not to love? Cheers

    Great Large BT Party Speaker

Great speaker. Very large, but well worth it. The sound quality is fantastic and the volume is impressive. One of Sony's longest lasting and best selling and performing options is Sony's MEGA BASS. I have several Sony products that offer this option and it never disappoints. It really does offer a a deep and even punch that is certainly "bassy" but not at all overbearing. Great job Sony in tuning that sound. Sony uses what they call "X-Balanced" speaker tuning for delivering this rich, crisp, clean and balanced mid's, highs and lows. A great audio option. As for volume levels, we have a 35'x15' indoor pool. With 8 teenagers swimming in there, 4 different conversations going on and the splashing and water play that accompanied it, when I had this at full volume, it was loud (and clear) enough that they asked me to turn it down. I turned it down to about 50% and it was perfect. Another nice feature is the IPX4 water resistance rating. I had absolutely no problems placing this right by the pool knowing it would certainly catch some "water shrapnel" from the teenage shenanigans that are sure to go on. Indeed, it survived several days in the pool house, absolutely none-the-worse for wear. One great feature is the battery. They claim it's 20 hours worth of life, but I am skeptical considering the many variables (what volume level, what part of the LED lights, operating temperature etcetera) can certainly play major rules in battery life. That said, it does have USB port 1 that can both charge and play music, and USB 2 that won't play music, but will charge. So if your phone is low, you can plug it into either of these ports and charge your devices. Additionally, USB quick charging will offer up to 80 minutes of playback on 10 minutes charge time. I did not test this feature but found it worth mentioning from the manufacturers white sheet. The back panel offer in addition to the previously mentioned USB ports also offers inputs for microphone and another for guitar. Each input has adjustable levels to offer your camp fire friends a great sing-along buy the fire. Very cool. There is also a standard 1.5 mm input jack. Well thought out. Above the enclosed panel that offers these input options, there are 3 buttons that allow you even more options to use and enjoy this speaker. There are buttons for "Party Connect" that allows for chaining of multiple speakers, a "Battery Care" button that allows you to maintain and manage the battery as well as a "Light" button to manage the LED lighting system. The speaker was cleverly designed... You can stand it up vertically or lay it down horizontally depending on your current environmental needs and the sound is equally as impressive in either orientation. Very well thought out. Sony recommends 2 apps to assist in speaker use. The "Sony Music Center" app is intuitive and offers multiple control options for operating the music portion of the speaker. The other app is named "Fiestable" and is designed to control the lighting. This one, I don't know... I loaded it, deleted it, cleared cache multiple times and it just never worked. Is this a deal breaker? Well, no, not for me. The lighting control (to me) seems kind of hokey and not really something I would use. But I thought it worth mentioning. End of the day, this is a very good speaker if you have the need. For us, having teenagers and the indoor pool at home, this is a no brainer. We also use it while camping both for playing music, as well as plug-in a guitar and mic to entertain the troops, I would energetically recommend to a friend, but I would note the "Fiestable" app not seeming to work. Good choice if you need it. **PLEASE NOTE** This was provided to me at reduced or no charge in exchange for an honest and unbiased review. And this review is exactly that, honest and unbiased.

huge bluetooth speaker for blasting tunes

The Sony SRSXP500 Bluetooth Portable Wireless Speaker is technically portable, however it is a huge speaker by normal Bluetooth speaker standards, almost 2 feet high and weighing in at 25 pounds. It can either be stood up vertically or laid down horizontally. The unit come with LED lighting which can be turned on and off by a button on the rear of the unit. You also download a Sony Mobile app to update firmware, control volume, sound profiles or lighting modes or use it to launch your favorite music app. The are two USB A ports on the back of the unit that can be used for charging or connecting devices (one is dedicated to data connectivity) including a USB flash drive with music files. You can also pair this unit in “party mode” with other compatible Sony speakers, which is a pretty cool feature which I was able to do with one of my other Sony speakers. The speaker sounds rich and clear sounding, with a dedicated tweeter and midrange speakers with a woofer, bass response is substantial and can be pumped up by enabling “Mega Bass” mode, through a top panel button or when using the Sony Music center app. The speaker is easy to pair, has a combined play/pause/next track button and a separate +/- volume buttons on top. Around back a removable panel reveals the two USB A plugs, a line in jack, two full size jacks where a guitar and microphone can be plugged in to make this essentially a PA speaker. When I first started to play music through the speaker it was set to “Rave” mode which flashes sets of LEDs on the front edges of the speaker, after using the speaker for a while I found myself playing with different lighting modes, finally settling in on one of the calmer modes. What matters is sound, and this speaker delivers for all occasions, deep rich sound and it can get LOUD. This speaker is well suited for outdoor use as it is IPX4 water resistant. Pros: - Configurable, rich sound with great bass response (mega bass) - Huge portable speaker with separate tweeter, midrange a woofer. - Sony Music center app is the heart of controlling and configuring the speaker - Very good battery life (rated for 20 hours), with a two USB type A jacks for charging other devices. - Line In jack for connecting devices via a cord - Two full size jacks for connecting a microphone and/or a guitar - LED lighted borders - One of the USB-A ports can connect to a USB flash drive to play stored music or connect to other devices. Cons: - Get ready for a workout, or hand truck to move this giant around. - Not a fan of the combined play/pause/next track button.

Bluetooth compatibility, "live" sound the way it was meant to be enjoyed. If you could peak behind the grill, you'd see the large woofers and dual tweeters. This lends itself to awesome bass and clear, clean high notes. The PARTY CONNECT feature allows up to 10 additional speakers to blast and light up the party. Can you imagine that! The Sony XP500 boast the ability to recharge in ten minutes to 80 minutes of play time. WOW! On the back are two (2) USB charge ports with 1-AMP power available to recharge your other portable devices like cell phones and pad pc's. One is able to be used as a smart drive for playing music and audio. Like to play guitar or other instruments? How about Karaoke? The mic input's got you covered here. I love the easy and quick Bluetooth pairing. When I tuirn on my PC it automatically pairs up and allows me to enjoy my video stranming with sound out of this world. I can use my LCD projector and the Sony XP500 for outdoor cinema experience like we had in the drive-in. All in all I am impressed by the realistic sound. You can feel the bass and control the color effects via the app. The built in carrying handle makes it easy to take along wherever your fun may be. Oh, almost forgot. Don't worry about the weather or cannonballs poolside, your SONY XP500 is IPX4 water resistant.

This is my second XP700. Now I have a pair and they sound great! I have considered upgrading to the 900 but there is considerable size difference. While the XP700 is large it is still manageable and easy to move around. I recently used both speakers on a Mardi Gras float and the sound was loud, the bass was driving, and I ran both speakers (paired in the Sony Music app) at about 95% volume for almost two hours and still had about 80% battery remaining. Zero distortion and no clipping. I also used both speakers at a chili cook-off back in November and the weather turned and a light rain ended all of the music from all booths as well as the public address system since all were exposed to the elements and most required electricity. Our booth kept on rocking so we turned it up so everyone could enjoy some music. If I were sure my wife wouldn't kill me I'd consider adding two more speakers but... These do not have the low end power of a large electric powered JBL Party Box and the highs are not as crisp as I would prefer but it's exactly what I was looking for...portable and battery powered. I highly recommend going to a store to check out all of the available options.

This Sony speaker is GREAT !! It is bluetooth & has 7 speakers in it . It is a Christmas gift , but my Grandson already got one two Christmases ago & it carries a full range of sound . The bass is very low , but solid , so it does not go into subwoffer effects & it carries a high end frequency response across the board to at least 20 Khertz . He wanted another on because they can be connected wirelessly together & made to be stereo with an APP .They are water resistant as my Grandson placed his in the bathtub to amplify the sound & after playing it , forgot it was there behind the curtain & mistakenly turned the shower on it , and then had to dry it out , and it still plays perfectly . I think you can connect 100 of these together !! He loves it & will soon have another.

The Sony XP700 absolutely blew me away. The sound is powerful, clear, and punchy, with deep bass that you can actually feel without drowning out the vocals. It gets impressively loud while staying crisp, which makes it perfect for parties, outdoor gatherings, or just filling a room with great music. Battery life is excellent, and I love how sturdy and premium it feels—built to last and easy to move around. Pairing was quick and seamless, and the lighting effects add a fun vibe. You can buy the crap on wish or dome other site for under a $100. But the sound does not compare. Instead of spending a thousand dollars to retrofit my semi to have decent sound, I bought this. The cheap speakers will distort if you turn them up all the way, but sony's technology make sure the sound is always crisp and clear. Whether i'm gaming on my m s I laptop or watching a movie on my z.Fold 4. I am able to Bluetooth the sound from all devices to my Sony XP-700. Also the same app that controls my Sony WF1000XM3 Earbuds controls the Sony XP-700. With the app I can turn it on and off. The speaker can sit powered off but on standby. Or you can choose for it to turn off after a few minutes ftom Bluetooth disconnect. When on battery mode....not plugged in....the sound output drops a very small amount. It's only noticeable if you're right there as it happens. I was lucky, I found mine on bestbuy.com on sale for $438.00 after tax. I picked it up in store. I like my new dog. I love spending time with the wife.........sorry got distracted. If you have a device that can put out decent sound other than the phone, or computer, you're looking this up on when you watch the video, you can hear the sound coming through. Volume on video was at 80% well gosh darn....will only let me upload pictures. https://youtu.be/qPAe7EX0Kac?feature=shared here is a link of vieo from my youtube channel.

This is review of Sony SRS-XP700 Just WOW as first impression for its powerful sound. With its easy to grab and go to make big wave perfect to enjoy with group of friends at backyard or else. I couldn’t have the volume all the way up for long as it can be heard across entire block of neighbor. On setting aspect is straight forward, enable bluetooth on the device and the speaker, then download Sony Music Center and Fiestable, select the music and play with the lights as bump the sound. The Mega Boost does its job enabling amplification if I understand correctly, and can tell the difference with and without it, the deep but still sharp of the full sound of each instrument and voice makes great for the moment. Then the Music Center has its own benefit is song management integrated with device default player iTunes I my case. I find it useful as from the same app can control songs to play and control the speaker. And good thing of Fiestable its ability for DJ Control and make effect. It has other feature like Voice Control, Party Light, Party Playlist, Motion Control, Karaoke, Illumination. But find more interesting the make of effect on the sound via Dj Control. And it is remarkable the duration of the battery. Didn’t play continuous 25 hours, but having played several hours across multiple days of week, still remains 70% of single charge. On the note of curious feature of the application, despite it doesn’t connect via WiFi for music control and connectivity with speaker, it still require to enable Local Network and Cellular Data. Not sure this is for the requirement for Add App Maps and how it benefit, but find bit odd it is there. What I feel non convenient are: 1. Have to rely on additional two applications 2. Can’t turn on/off from the application 3. Can’t enable Mega Bass from the application, or at least I couldn’t find the option. 4. The light effect is single one for both top and bottom. Wish I can have control to have for top and bottom. But aside of short list of inconvenience, find it really good to have for the good quality of sound at big to be with friends enjoying bbq. I can’t imagine the level of experience would be by adding compatible speakers for Party mode.

This speaker delivers a powerful sound with strong bass and clear vocals, even when you crank it up. It’s perfect for parties and outdoor get-togethers. Plus, the battery lasts a long time, and Bluetooth pairing is quick and stable. The lights add a fun atmosphere without being too much. It’s a solid, loud, and reliable speaker.

Hi shootwithkese, we regret to hear that you're unable to get an hour use out of this speaker. This is definitely not the experience we'd like you to have. We'd love to help and troubleshoot your problem.

If the speaker does not function as expected, try the following steps to resolve the issue.

      Charge the speaker.

You may be able to resolve some issues by charging the built-in battery.

      Restart the speaker.

      Initialize the speaker.

This operation restores the settings such as volume, etc. to the factory default settings, and deletes all pairing information.

For the last two weeks I've been testing the Sony XP 500 Bluetooth speaker and I have to say, I'm impressed.  I recently used it for a backyard barbecue, at full volume, with all the lights on, and the battery lasted a whopping 10 hours. In that 10 hours, the speaker maintained a strong Bluetooth connection and sounded amazing. The highs and mids are clear and the bass is punchy. Especially, when you use the bass boost feature. I was also lucky enough to have two of these speakers on hand so I was able to test the party connect feature and it worked great. When paired together the lights and sound paired up flawlessly. However, it should be noted that it will only pair with other party connect equipped speakers and not party chain speakers. Overall, this is a great speaker and I definitely recommend it.

I've gone through a numerous amount of bluetooth speakers. Although they all functioned well none of them had "that sound" I was looking for...good bass with a well-blended tone. Most of my smaller speakers have a decent bass (for their size) but the tone always sounds echo-y and lacking. I do have a Sony XB-30 that I've had for a few years and it's still a great speaker, especially for a small to normal sized room. But when you want a little more "umph", it comes up short. So, after researching and demo'ing the many speakers in Best Buy the sound on this SonyXP-500 just pulled me in! I really wasn't looking to spend this much but, man, the bass and tone totally compliment one another! The sound is fantastic and has that 1980's-1990's component stereo sound...like music should be heard like! I generally listen to Rush, Tool, Floyd, as well as anything blues and ocassional rock/soul. This speaker does not disappoint!!! I've been using it for the last 3 days, tried all volume levels and even prefer to have the "Extra Bass" turned off, as the standard bass sounds just perfect as is. I will say this speaker is loud...but not as loud as I could get my old component stereo. That said I've been listening at about 30-50% volume in my small house and it's been great! The RGB lighting blinks away, something I have to read in how to turn it off (not my thing!). ***I did get this speaker on sale and I decided to purchase the Best Buy coverage plan, which made the cost a wash with the sale price. I plan to see how this does in my classroom. If it proves too loud then it's coming back home! Definitely recommend this speaker, especially if you're ready to accept that the "old stereo days" are fading and you may as well jump on board to the "new ways"!

      Hi TeacherDuringLockdown,
Thank you for an amazing review and recommendation! We're glad to hear your new SRSXP500 suits your needs and expectations. Nice to know you are enjoying the incredible sound quality of the unit. You may find this link helpful if the sound on the speaker is low: https://helpguide.sony.net/speaker/srs-xp500/v1/en/contents/TP1000543551.html. I'd also recommend downloading the Sony Music Center app where you will find all sorts of tools to fine-tune the speaker using the built-in EQ and maximize the volume to ensure optimal listening experience.

With regard the lighting function, this feature is set to on when you purchase the speaker. To turn off (light off)/turn on (light on) the lighting function, press the LIGHT button on the rear side of the speaker to turn off/on the lighting function. Also, by using the “Illumination” function on “Sony | Music Center,” you can turn on/off the lighting function or choose the various lighting modes. The sound is amazing, it is as loud as my Sony GTK-XB72 (the older version of the larger speaker in this series). The sound is loud and clear and the bass option is pretty substantial. The design is very sleek and i appreciate the lights much more than i did on the previous version. The music app and fiestable app is pretty much easy to use and reliable. The battery life is pretty good, obviously the volume and basss option will diminish the life of the battery faster but it still has quite the pop. I did notice the sound is noticeably softer when it is not plugged into an outlet and running on battery life alone but it still provides great sound. The only complaint i have is the party chain option is not able to link older and series of the new version. I have the GTK-XB72 and the XP500 and it will not party chain or surround pair. It was quite disappointing, i wish it was compatible with all series. Overall a B- in my book, deducted a whole star because in order to use party chain or surround speakers i need to repurchase the identical one instead of using the last version of the same family/series.

      Hello Charose,

Thank you for your review. We are so sorry if the sound quality/loudness of our SRSXP500 didn't live up to your expectations. This is definitely not the experience we wanted you to have on our premium speaker.

To ensure optimal listening experience, please make sure you have downloaded the Sony Music Center app. There you will find all sorts of tools like an equalizer to fine-tune your SRSXP500 and maximize the volume to your liking. For additional troubleshooting steps, please refer to these links and see if it resolves the problem:

Please note: The volume will become low when the maximum sound volume for playing music depends on whether the speaker is running on power from the connected AC outlet or from the rechargeable built-in battery. This, however, does not indicate a malfunction. To play music louder, connect the speaker to an AC outlet.
